hey. Maybe you know. I just bought one of these, and I'm wondering.. When the little noise meter hits the red area, is it actually damaging the tape, or is that a feature for people who actually worry about creating feedback and interesting noises?
I would doubt it would hurt the tape. It's more likely just a warning for users who want to keep things undistorted (think Country and Western users, who go for that "clean and clear Sun Records" echo).
@hushamouse It's all sound waves, don't think it will hurt the tape at all. As someone else said It's just for those who want to keep it undistorted. I'm wondering though, where did you buy one of these, I want one so bad. Too bad Roland is dumb and quit making them. All the good pedals they quit making and started making cheap digital shit.
looking around for awseome delay effects... my search ended with the roland... and what pissed me off was the realisation that an RE-201 was sitting out back of our rehearsal room for 10 years... my teenage band used this thing as a mixer 'cause it had two inputs... oh how youth is wasted on the young!
True. That's a rack-mounted digital unit... Same effect, different tonal and response behavior. Jonny Greenwood uses the RE-201, Ed uses a wide variety of other delays...
Depends on how much you use it. I've only owned it for about 6 months, don't use it all the time. Sounds great. Tapes are still available on the web, so I'll just order a few spares when it starts to sound thin.
T-Resonator might be the best effect I've ever had, it is so unusual. There is no midi in RE-20 and not even patches [I use digicam to store patches :)]. There is also a problem with digital distortion, when twisting intensity knob too much; in normal situation it is not a problem, but making experiments is a bit difficult. I'm glad anyway there is no extra limiter build inside re-20.
sounds like bbc radiophonic workshop

Sounds awesome! Nothing beats the real thing. A lot of things get you in the ballpark - but only the 201 knocks it over the fence.

The GS-201 has all the feed back and tape wobbles in a plugin.

Very nice. I just bought re-20 for synth and guitar use and this video was very interesting. I have to test re-20 with t-resonator right now :)
ovuori 3 years ago
how do you like your t-resonator?
try twisting the delay time on the re-20 and the jomox at the same time. it sounds like you're bending and warping time. :)
I think the re-20 does one thing I wish the re-201 did, midi clock sync. Does the re-20 midi sync? or at least have a midi input?

You are so lucky to have the real thing :)
