why is it accents disappear when people sing? not always.... but it happens a lot... any ideas youtubers?

it really does. especially with english (brittish) bands. maybe it has something to do with the way that you need to prounce the word to create the sound that the melody calls for. lots of long vowels in songs that are sung in english, if your natural accent is sort of closed, like with a closed palate it doesn't sound right.

UMMMM...ok, the lead singer is hideous. and how the hell are they able to sing in such great english but can hardly speak it. something is fake about this group. love their music but i'm not buying it that it's actually them on the tracks...just doesn't add up.

It is well known that accents can become neutralised while the same people are singing (The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Daft Punk, Motorhomes...et cetera) but it never ceases to astonish people. I think it is quite nonsensical to assume that they're fake because of this simple fact.

I'm a french girl myself, and when I speak english I feel really self-conscious (since I can't help-but find my accent grotesque). In spite of that, believe or not but when I'm singing, unexpectedly my english do not sound so french.

(side note : Thomas Mars (the lead singer) is not in this video.)

It's definitely them on the tracks. You should watch any of their live recordings, they sound exactly the same as they do on the record. La Blogotheque has a recording of them live in a Paris street, you should look it up.
