i dont see how is possible to beat this game without using cheats,even at easy difficulty.i mean the persians start out with like,what,10 times more troops than you do?how are you suppose to expand with every persian city guarded by big ass armies?

@ulongkoror Their soldiers suck, they just mass em and attack, if you position your phalanxes correctly all those charging persians just quickly die. So their numbers dont matter.

I think the Total War games are great, and I like the alexandrian age very much, but this game was just terrible. Unhistorical, unlogical and a really stupid campaign. Maybe when there will be a Rome 2 TW they learn from their mistakes.

Total war has always done a bad job at interpreting units of an army in RTW. That and the fact that the phalanxes just happily one-arm the pikes and not even hold it with 2 hands

Well considering you just think they hold em with both hands it's not like your doing a good job either.

Infact, they where able to hold there pikes with 1 hand because they whore a kind of belt attached to there pike so it was easier to carry. Although when carrying it up right this belt had little effect, although when slightly lifted down it would take some of the weight, allowing them to use there shields.

That was a variant for the levies, but was designed for a less organized and less disciplined army, and by that I mean you giving a guy a two hour lesson and throwing him into war. The shield was wrapped and secured across the forearm, leaving the hand free to hold onto the sarissa. God help you if you think you can one-hand a pike against a 1000lb cataphract, genius.

I do believe they had a brass point at the end of there pike for a reason, the reason being to ram it into the ground and brace for a cav charge. Also i'd appreciate it if you wouldn't start cursing seeming I didn't either. Also, Nice that the shield is attached to the arm, I knew this, you still need to move it towards where arrows and swords come from though.
