  • So, just a heads up to all of those that are watching. GM issued a TSB #05-06-04-029A for this problem. All vehicles from 99-05 with the 4.8L, 5.3L or 6.0L are prone to this issue. The bulletin states that it is very common to see lean codes P0171 & P0174 TOGETHER, and also a possible missfire code. The catch to this is that GM also changed the gasket material to help fix this problem, and they state that the updated ones are supposed to be teal green, and to not use the orange ones again.

  • Did the computer throw a too lean code?

  • What is the name of that special tool and where do you get it from?

  • I did my job on my 02 silverado 4.8L.....Completed in 2 hrs with no problems...Great video!

  • @duelingpianos2 Nice Video! Good Info!!! How long did it took you guys to take off and replace the intake manifold?

  • Those ridges on the old gasket that where totally flat, went flat the second the manifold was torqued down at the factory

  • did you have any coolant loss? what exactly was the symptoms?

  • Hey there, the symptoms were massive "bucking" of the truck when I'd press the accelerator. Instead of acceleration and power when you press the gas pedal, the truck would lurch forward and then most times stall out. This happened on the highway a few times and then the power steering and brakes both went out too. Very unsetteling!

  • Thank you this video was a huge help.

  • you all dont have to worry about the conections each one gose on there ,,,,,,,,,,, there all diffrent

  • how did you tie the bolts? what is the sequence of the bolts and how much inch in pounds? thanks ......i appreciate for u answer

  • Thanks this helps my quest of changing knock sensors

  • Do not I repeat do not use the orange gasket set. This is the problem. Chevy has discontinued use of the gasket set with the orange seals. They fail often. Us a felpro gasket set or a oem set from chevy that is green. U will not or should not have to repeat the fix then and if it's over 100,000 miles people just replace the pcv valve while Ur at it.

  • What motor is this? 4.8L? I need to do the same to change my knock sensors.

  • Quick tip for any doing this. The fuel lines do require that special he showed and when you press the tool into the line, press the line forward and then pull back. It will be way easier than just trying to pull the line off.

  • Went well.... check engine light went off, idles much better too! Only special tools needed are for the fuel lines. One thing to watch is the plastic clip on the cruse linkage at the throttle body; it will go flying when you remove it. I got lucky and found mine. Thanks again!

  • Nice job, doing this tomorrow to my 5.3 Yukon and this does help, thanks!! I have read probably 100 threads on doing this and they do have an updated gasket that is teal/green. It's about 100.00 from the dealer but it's supposed to be better, just FYI for anyone else doing this.

  • @icefireblue about 20 hours (thats me working)

  • Thanks so much for posting this! I need to take mine off to change the knock sensors

  • @boredsk8er Theres a TSB for changing the kock sensors. Build a little dam with silicon.

  • i got to do this same thing today in a bout 30 minuts. my car actual lopes and some times it will stall out while im driving it

  • @Drew927 check your egr valve. if its not all the way in it will cause this to happen. the reason i know this is because i did the same thing with my 2001 tahoe 5.3 yesterday. the egr wasnt all the way back in

  • Those are known for leaking because Dex-cool eats the rubber gaskets.

  • @CMLovejoy there is no coolant that runs through the intake manifold on any gm LS series engine. The issue here is vacuum leaks at the intake port seal. The root of the problem has been determined as the ethenol in the fuel deteriorates the o ring seal in the gasket. Fel-Pro has a re designed gasket to eliminate this problem.

  • i got a 98 gmc sierra and my oil is kind of yellowish could that be because my intake manifold gasket is bad anyone got any questions thanks

  • @101colton most likely. water is getting into your oil, making it that color.

  • my intake manifold is leaking.that's what the garage said but i dont know what it means.what probleme a leak cause.mine, the engine is always on and once in a while the engine light is flashing wich is not really good and the truck seems to have difficulty to accelerate when it start flashing.does a leaking do that.thank you

  • i gotta tell you ,you are the only 2 guys that have a good video on removing the intake manifold thank you can you help with a 2002 tahoe 4.8L knock sensors

  • Good video, but you are brave scraping all that trash around at the injector tips

  • im currently finishing my 1992 gmc sierra gaskets, and boy i cannot wait to hear her run haha
