How can one not love this song and the video. I think people need to remember that when artists sing their songs live, they tend to pick up the tempo so that they can fit more of their songs into the concert - hey ask Tom Petty and the Stones about that one. At any rate, this song just transports me and makes me feel very, very peaceful due to it's beauty. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
Bill Berry had pondered leaving the torture of the road earlier, but his Brain Aneurysm in Switzerland sealed it. When they came back to begin the new album, he announced he was done. The member have been losing interests at varying levels. I know how fun it is to play live, but their lyrics are now lazy and predictable, unlike the impressionistic vocals of earlier works. Michael is very into it, but mainly because he's become an attention whore, probably have a Vegas show when the others get it

fuck off - michael - i wanted the original version....i bought the albums i went to the concerts ... i suffered my sexuality with you - boy,,,,i loved you all those years....and all you care about is MONEY and ROYALTIES....you cunt...aren't you RICH enough...FFS???
jesus - i introduced to SO many disbelievers...gave you so much FREE publicity in england when you weren't popular...how you treat your fans...disaster...give up friend,...your latest work is shit..
Now wait wait wait. You may think what you want and say what you want I'm not saying I agree or disagree with you, "dulcebell". Personally, I AM a die hard fan and am proud. But I would like to hear a bit more from "uclrichard". What do you mean he only cares about money? And what do you mean by disbeleivers or how he treats his fans. I'm not trying to argue I would only like a bit of explanation, please. And if anyone else reads this and agrees, put a thumbs up. If you dont agree then do nothin
sorry - that was a bit of a rant...wasn't it? lol!
i adore REM - they're the american equivalent of 'the smiths' - totally wonderful band of the mid-80-90s - offered a new kind of cynicism and romanticism to my generation...
no offence - but my favourite stuff was early on - 'reckoning' and 'document' - but all their albums - up to 'new adventures' are very good indeed....and 'daysleeper' - from a later album - is one of his best poems...
No problem. And I agree, on the music part that is. I love the Album Murmer personaly. But some of their new stuff is nice for me. I like a challenge everynow and then and listening to learn their new stuff is kinda tough. But its nice every now and then to listen to new and then go back to the old stuff. I'm almost done learning this song on the piano, but the guitar is nice and easy.
sry, i mean how uclrichard hits on the idea he (i guess you spoke about michael stipe?) would only be interested in money and wouldn't care about his fans.
All the answers that he wrote are right up on this video. What I think he was trying to say was that he is a fan of the older R.E.M. (In the 80's and maybe early 90's) and that the new stuff was written for money. Thats what I think he means at least. Personally, I find R.E.M. does the music for sheer enjoyment, and is backed up that Bill Berry left the band in 1997 saying that he did not enjoy playing anymore. He said the truth and up until then he had enjoyed playing which is why he stayed b4.
This is by far the best concert of REM, from the opening song Begin the begin to the last one it was a perfect show, and the vibe there was in the crowd was amazing, going from day to night on the concert, unique!, and also the band shows why they are one of the best ever.
Three people are not scared, they're out of here.

My girlfriend and I love this song. She wants this to be a wedding song but I told her I'm too white to dance to it correctly.
However, this video has proven me wrong. You're never too white to dance to R.E.M.
Johnnymay86 2 years ago 6
Ok. Every song written from this moment on must include a musical break so that Michael Stipe can dance. It's the law.
