id like to see some of you hold a camera when it suddenly weighs 5.8 what it normally does....cheers for the upload man. I dream of being in your position one day!
That's defnitely SBA. My office is over to the right side of this runway, and I've seen several P-51s doing low passes over the runway just like this. Quite the thrill watching these beauties do a flyby, even on the ground. I always imagine the banter with the Tower and the controllers begging for another one.... I know I would be!
I did 20 plus in the Australian Air Force, I had a ball!.
I was in an office at an Australian Air Force 'non-flying' base, located high up (about 2.300 ft) in the Blue Mountains, east of Sydney, state of New South Wales. One crystal clear blue sky afternoon, I glanced out my window, just in time to see a C130H Hercules charging down the throat of the three mile valley, BELOW my office window.
@Lusth0g Several P-51's have been modified with the addition of a back seat,. A small 'jump' seat, it's cramped, but the discomfort goes away about one nano second after the first blade passes in front of you on start up. Fortunately, been there done that a few times, compliments of Warbirds of America, Chino, CA. Yeeeeeeehaw!
@twinstu50 Back in the day (when avgas wasn't so expensive) and I belonged to the Professional Race Pilots Association (PRPA), guys like Clay Lacy and Bob Hoover and a few others with P-51's would let members strap in for short hops in the SoCal area. I'm EAA now and only fly LSA's - lost my medical in '06. If you ever get to the West Coast - Check out Dan Martin's "Ridge Runner III" in Hollister, CA - rides can be arranged...
@alexkirlian quero ver voce conseguir segurar uma camera dentro de um aviao puxando quase 6Gs na subida. Não da, ainda mais quando é pego de surpresa.
is this at EAA? and guys he may have been (if he wasn't exaggerating) pulling 5 to 8 G's. thats like holding a 30 pound camera when your arm weighs 100 pounds
i don't even know what to say about this video. For all we know u did land. You totally messed filming this up so badly! It is embarassing, can you try harder next time for those of us who'd love to fly in this legend but don't get the chance!
@iainet try holding the camera on a "bumpy" day with moderate "chop" (turbulance) and then suddenly pulling almost 6 Gs in a pull up (people start to black out at 7.5 Gs). So stop your stupid bitching- you're just jealous you aren't the sitting were the camera man is!
You don't want one-they are always broken. My hangar mate had one-always working on it-he used to bitch at me cause all I ever did was put gas in my jet warbird- went just as fast-fraction of the cost and headaches--but the mustangs are cool for sure-pretty- . I'd want mine an Enforcer with the turbine-they made sense but mustang purists hate them
I read the video title and thought it meant low pass on the Mustang car. I know that sounds retarded. But think about it, Mustang on Mustang action? Awesome.
Hey, that's Santa Barbara, Ca. airport...... runway 25...............how about doing a low pass from runway 33R and l slow right turn over my house......i would love it!
There is fuck all hard about pointing a camera out of the window, he managed it at the start, the rest is looking at the twats feet or the floor! What a waste :(
And how can you tell they didn't. If they pulled up and had an accelerometer to measure it that could very well be true. You pull 4 g's in a normal loop and that would be less dramatic than going to vertical right away.
I've sat in the back of a p-51 and did my best to hold my camera up. At time it felt like it weight 200lbs. Other times it was impossible and stayed in my lap. I for one enjoyed the heck out of this video clip because I've experienced it first hand and remember the rush!
Ultimately a very fine aircraft after retrofit. German design. Once that engine had been replace with the Spitfire Merlin Rolls Royce we had something. Prior to that, not as good according to RAF tests during the war.
no straight up from the runway tarmac 0 degreses verticle, hang it on its prop, kick the rudder and spin it around falling on its tail, and level out a couple of feet off the runway going in the reverse direction. gimme that stick, if you won't do it, I will! you big pussy!
I have to admit, you would make a bad pilot, you may know how the airplane might respond, but you know nothing about the beauty or physics of an airplane, not to mention a fighter pilot, if you did what you said, you would stall out and probably die
Actually cobrachoppergirl multimillion dollar warbirds are not flown like that for some very good reasons. And fighters in combat are never flown like that for another very good reason, being that an aircraft hanging on its prop is almost stationary in the air, an absolute sitting duck. So I guess you don't know as much as you like to pretend you do, with your blow arse comments.

You'd be wrong, my great uncle flew the '51 during the war and pulled 10 G's easy in a split S (on the plane, but not on him)
WeretFilms 3 years ago
no he didn't, he's lying
toranamunter 3 years ago
On the plane, but not on him?
The Gs on the plane are on him just as well.
And ten Gs are almost impossible to pull on a P-51. It's structural limit was +8/-4.
I suppose you could pull +10, with enough speed, but...
The Sukhois take that routinely, although not sustained. Only modern jet fighters (F-16,F-18, etc...) can do that-and not for long.
