No traction controls, no electronics, manual gears...
Man vs machine vs environment.
Senna was the best but all those drivers back in those days and in days before deserve a lot of respect. They were sitting on raw beasts just with a seat belt...
@TittyTittyBangBangXX Because (cant remember the guys name) the guy that builds race tracks has created alot new tracks the last 10/20 years.. I dont gonna name them all and mr ecclestone decides( i think ) what circuits they gonna use for that year..
Indianapolis, magny cours, imola are all deleted from the f1 calender.. and i prefer one of that tracks instead of singapore or abu dhabi..
Search for "1991 lap" in the search field and you will see other cars and drivers doing laps on the same tracks as senna. Then you will understand why he was a champion... Driving in the extreme, as senna did, was for a very few. Even with the same car as his, others wouldn't push as hard as he did. RIP the legend! =)
some credit should be given to the shoddy camera as well for making it look bumpier that it actually is. the cameras today are so smooth that it makes the ride look fairly serene.
@karamazovbrothers1 Actually, today's onboard cameras are far more sophisticated in terms of adjusting for the bumps. As you know, GP cars have very little give in the suspension and those bumps were what the driver felt (as you can see from Senna's head bouncing about). But what a fabulous lap, just genius!
Just a few weeks after this I was born just across the road from where the hairpin is. I'd love to see F1 return to Adelaide. It doesn't belong in Melbourne!
Ahh... that days, that MEN driving his BEAUTIFUL RAW POWER machines, with KILLER engine sounds... not these marketing faggots you see conducting Miss Daisy today...
I was happy and I dn't knew, for watching these guys almost every sunday...
@Funfisique That's crap. Today's drivers drive from childhood, they have better skills. And I think a Lewis Hamilton is much better than a MS or Barichelo
@bubi8894 It was McLaren Mercedes. He had to do everything every other driver has to do to get into F1 - Win. All F1 drivers have sponsors and all have to prove they are worthy of a drive. He didn't have anything handed to him. He had to earn his place or they would have simply cut him loose long before F1.
@TeddyRuck I'm saying he's not talented. He's a great driver, after all he's a world champion! But I think that a Mercedes sponsorship that you have since your karting times makes a bit easier to get to the top.
@bubi8894 Seb Vettel had the same route to the top. Red bull driver since his teens. How many young drivers do you think huge companies sponsor that we never hear about? I bet the number is quite considerable. His sponsorship didn't make him a faster karter, they didn't buy him a faster kart. Cream rises to the top. Would you have different opinion of him if Coca-Cola had sponsored him? He may have been lucky to get the drive at McLaren but getting to that point was blood sweat and tears.
@lhdt05 Well, Rubens was never allowed to demonstrate what he was capable of in a championship winning car(contractually) and MS has won 91 Grand Prix and 7 WC. I think comparisons are best left till the end of a driver's career, when a more complete picture can be seen.
@reds005 Well the thing is today's drivers pull up to 5.5g's in cornering and 6 in breaking. So it's easier in terms of driving ability, but the stresses are equivalent, and the forces are higher.
i used to hear this from my house, i miss those days

Why did they change the Australian track from Adelaide to Melbourne? Was it for commercial reasons?

@karamazovbrothers1 Yeah but the only time the camera made the shake worse then it actually was, is during the long straight.

@karamazovbrothers1 Well, just look at his head shaking, I'm sure it's not a camera effect.
