  • Pretty good post...

  • but... I'm from Mexico

Where I can found information about CERN here in mexico?

I really like be in there

    it's my dream

  • The mad CERN s project

Rutherford studied atoms bombarding them with a- particles

This idea helped him to understand the structure of atoms Then Devil gave advice to physicists to Bomb particles And physicists created LHC , CERN

The artful Devil is glad He again deceived men

Physicists think that LHC is first of all a huge energy

And the Devil laughs He knows that CERN is first of all Vacuum

But this he withheld from men

    Israel Sadovnik Socratus

  • this might be areal stupid question... but by any chance will CERN be admitting biologists?

  • no it is not a stupid question, your chance seems a bit low,but scientist is always scientist,I am sure you can be interesting for them, exceptional maybe ı can call, that provides you to be accepted...so don't worry, this year's applications is over but you should apply next year.

  • Does anyone know what it takes to become a summer student? I mean in terms of knowledge and skill.

I'm an it student. What kind of job is there for me in CERN?

  • what is required?

I want to do medicine but I love physics.

anyone know if theres anything that links CERN with medicine?

  • Theres some aspects of radiography and radiation based medicines that were inspired by CERNs work but I don't think there is direct medical research associated with CERN. That being said i may be wrong

  • We are watching in Africa with our hands crossed because we have nothing to contribute. But, one thing is certain, when the finished with the experiment they will come and unleash it on us.

  • There is no nuclear waste which comes directly from the LHC. It fires protons and anti-protons, it doesn't use uranium or other radioactive material.

Everything will be ok, don't worry.

  • I thought the protons are harvested from a nuclear source. Prove me right, plz.

  • That's a good point, but i would guess that they make the protons and anti-protons by pair production (as anti-protons do not exist naturally on earth) I'd also guess that it would be extremely difficult to take only the protons out of an atom. Unless it emits Alpha particles and you somehow split them up to get neutrons and protons, but if you did that then you'd be left with a load of neutrons which you cant do anything with. I'll look into it though.

  • well to bad im ot that smart ^ ^

  • Aaaah.. I want to!

I guess that sums up most of the comments here.. Haha! :D

  • Yeah, but thats the bit they're worried about, but on a earlyer comment you said:

"i was surrounded by them until the LHC was first turned on"

But all they did when they turned it on was move particles in one way and then the other, not colliding which produces the results.

  • you know what bothers me, the people who try to create terror out of scientific experiments. The LHC has a chance of making a microscopic black hole, that will last for less than a second, is that too long for you? Are you afraid of research? How can they be terrorists when you create the terror?

  • :|

    ... I don't think I heard that correctly...

...The tevatron is a doomsday device???

That's been going since 1983. It hasn't killed us yet.

  • if i worked there i would be the first to die from the black hole

  • CERN will NOT create a black hole that will last long enough to kill anyone

  • and even if a black hole is created then it would need the energy of 2 suns in order to get it big enough to stay enough time to devour our planet.

  • true, and if we're lucky it'll just devour america or something

  • hehehe well it wont devour anything in fact just air, a few dust particles will cause it to radiate its energy and dissipate even after seconds it was created

  • your right.

wishful thinking on my part :D

  • Oh then i wish your wish comes true!! hehehe

  • If you are honestly that ignorant you need to go kill yourself. I don't know how many times CERN, and physicists need to explain that the black holes created at CERN are not gonna devour the world.

  • you're too uninformed to work there, I wouldn't worry about it

  • CERN the coolest place in the universe i wana work there looks fun

  • Big-bangers must be thrown out of Universities. They want to test their marasmic BB theory, and to torch the particle of God, but that lead us into the trap of Devil. I have sent a letter to prosecutors department of Russia, where I asked to open the criminal case against Rubakov, one of those, who had signed the paper The Safety of LHC. Dear citizens of Great Britain, did you make the same against sir Hawking.

  • I know that there are our Ukrainian students but Ukraine isn't among 20 Member States of CERN. I don't understand that.

  • There are up to 150 countries participating in various forms so you don't need to be one of the core 20 member states to get involved.

  • watch?v=1uPOXLlHbAc

  • well done!!

  • not another of theese really dumb people who think particle physicists are out there and are goign to destroy the earth pleases i was surrounded by them until the LHC was first turned on

  • The LHC has still not yet done the colliding which is the apparent 'dangerous' part.

  • yes "dangerous" as in amkes microscopic black holes which vapourise

  • That looks awesome, I would love to do an internship there. I see that no Americans were listed at the end of the video... I wonder why..?

  • The end of the video only lists the 20 Member States of CERN.

  • Oh ok. Do you happen to know if it is open to the public? I don't think they have internships for high school students.

  • Because they are not members of CERN.

  • lol how much do u lot get pay?

  • Yep, I was a summer student and now I'm TS. Both programmes are great. Computer science, engineering, physics, electronics. And even for social sciences there are some opportunities :)! Awesome place, awesome people :D, beautiful area, simply great!

  • Hello, andrzejdworak! What opportunities for social sciences do you mean? :)

  • I`ve got 5 GCSE`s, can I come?

  • HEY MEXICO DEBE ESTAR AHI!!! :|

  • Pero ya estan! Tenemos quarente-uno personas aqui en el CERN que vienen de Mexico!

  • Ooh no lo sabía!

    gracias! :)

  • why not Canada?!

  • They did it first? But you have to be physics genius to up there. And I study social sciences, wrong field ;)

  • You might be suprised how many Social Sciences and other non-physics graduates we have working here... To manage an international collaboration requires many more skills than physics

  • CERN is supported by 20 European coutries and Canada doesn't contribute because it's outside Europe.

  • but canada did contribute to the LHC

  • Sure! Different programmes target different people. We have Canadian physicists, fellows, summer students. Check out the recruitment site to see eligibility.
