@ciclopropano It's kind of a religious thing, also called "glossolalia". It means to babble in languages other than your own because you're possessed by either a demon or the holy spirit. It's now generally considered a symptom of mental illness or some other psychological pressure, although there are a number of churches in the US in particular who consider it genuine.
Arcade Fire are not gay ass hipster bullshit. Far from it. Their music is very accessible but from the highest quality at the same time. It's not like Radiohead from the last decade where despite being very interesting isn't that accessible and for me is very take it or leave it. Arcade Fire don't do that at all and are all the better for it. I'd call AF the most high quality and accessible band since the Achtung Baby days of U2 and of course the one and only The Smiths.
i've listened to this song for the first time on the radio some months ago..I've immediately taken a note of the lyrics just to search them on youtube...and then discover the title of the song...it's beautiful...now they've played another time on VR...but it's just the second time I listened to this song on the radio....beautiful..
i listen to eminem and all those other artist but arcade fire man they just do a awsome job they dont even need a damn grammy they should be like the top. arcade has that feeling , the best part is going outside on a dark night and bringing out my boom box and playing arcade fire its just a wonderful feeling or opening your window on a snowy day and blasting arcade fire its great!!!
@SMOKEWEEDNlGGA So your going to tell all these people that Arcade Fire is "gay ass hipster bullshit" and your reasoning is because they weren't mentioned on some shitty music video award show? The VMA's reward mainstream, generic, auto-tuned, top 40 BULLSHIT. So guess what you stupid weed smoking nigger, NO ONE CARES FOR YOUR OPINION. You are the epitome of a loser and a troll, and for that you will never win. Go listen to your Rihanna's and your Lady Gaga's. FUCK YOU!
@miguelconde8 in the words of louis ck..."the n word" is offensive...not the word nigger...saying "the n word" is offensive because youre just putting the word nigger in our heads. when we read "the n word" we say it in our heads..youre just too much of a pussy to actually say it, so you cop out and plant it in our minds instead. man up
@littleowlivia shut the fuck up you cunt. how does that sound, yeah it sounds horrible. Just as saying "the n word". so lets just put it this way "Its STILL OFFENSIVE!!!," i listen to arcade fire b/c it peaceful, I dont come here to read racist comments...
@Patcheno Your was so great awesome, only one know, its a minor little thing, you obviously have passive-agressive tendenacies, and could be trailer trash that hates black people, just surmising, and you can retaliate like a little kid with nasty grap after I post this in reply, but I will just not read it, ;)
@Jur4ssicPark I was using his own using name as an insult people, one of my best friends is African American. I was passionate about the point I was getting across so I used some aggresive words. I smoke weed, I like black people and I HATE stupid trolls who talk shit about real music. Now enjoy the music, and shut the fuck up.
@Jur4ssicPark Agree bud. So if Saying "Nigger" isn't offensive, then saying Faggots, gays, cunts isn't offensive either. Am I right dude?. Patcheno and littleolivia you can go die PLEASEEEEE......
@miguelconde8 If my explaination wasn't good enough for you then thats your issue, Miguel. ANY word can be offensive but thats up to the INDIVIDUAL. I choice to not give offense when I hear one of those words, because by getting offended we give the word meaning. My entire comment was defending the music both of us enjoy from an angry, misinformed piece of shit. NIGGER only stood out in my comment because YOU wanted it to.
Never has a band been quite as far as ahead as their contempories as Arcade Fire. That may be a disservice to them, even in the days of Pink Floyd, The Smiths, The Pixies or even Radiohead ten years ago, their music stands tall and proud
Not sure why SMOKEWEEDNIGGA even came on this page? What does the VMA's have to do with real music? Somebody let's the media control them don't they? You clearly don't have God in you. Arcade Fire is saving Rock n Roll. By talking about real things, the very things you hide from but yet anger still finds it's way in your heart doesn't it? Keep burning incense to baal, some people burn incense to the Lord.
There are no bad songs on the album. If I had to say then the Half Lights are the weakest songs on the album. Also, the reprise of the Suburbs at the end. The Sprawls are absolutely fantastic, I don't know what you lot are listening to. And Rococo deserves more credit I think as well. Best album of 2010 without a doubt.
@luthehappy7 I love Modern Man, certainly up there with Arcade Fire's greatest. I think that the reprise of the Suburbs is the best way to bring a close to such a great album. I have changed my mind since my last post and Month of May is probably my least favourite now, but I have grown to love We Used to Wait, Wasted Hours, and Empty Room more than I used to. I could go on talking about it for hours...
@museandmanicsfan I liked Wasted Hours and Empty Room when I listened to them for the first time. LOVE Month of May, I don't know why though. So weird, one band, so many different opinions. But one thing we can all agree on: Arcade Fire's awesome and we all love that band.
Don't see what's the deal with Arcade Fire anymore. Funeral was fantastic, Neon Bible amazing, but The Suburbs? Seriously, I thought it was hollow, face-saving and almost embarrasing in relative to the previous two. And songs like these, Baudelaire-references and David Byrne in all respect, only probate this opinion of mine.
@Volturism I agree that Suburbs is their least well-done album, but what do you mean it was "face-saving"? I don't see anything that points to saving face.
@corncornrocks Concerning the pressure set by their flawless discography, and certainly by that of NB (by some called the best runner-up album of the 2000s), forced them to write a record which would simply have to do, as 4 years had passed and expectations just kept growing. While some songs on The Suburbs are good, it’s as if broken in 16 pieces, glued together by the few songs that are actually good music. It’s an album that wouldn’t have been enough in 2007, but in this situation, had to be.
@NeverSaidYes I would say that The Suburbs, Modern Man, Empty Room, Deep Blue and We Used to Wait are the really notable ones. The other songs are not bad, just dull and boring to different degrees. Which ones do you prefer?
@Volturism Let's see... the tracks that I always look forward to when listening to the album are The Suburbs, Ready To Start, Modern Man, Empty Room, Half Light II, Deep Blue, and We Used To Wait. So I guess we sort of have the same taste. Sprawl is just dull. Dawl.
@NeverSaidYes Half Light 2 is the only song i really dont like in The Suburbs, the other ones fit perfectly. But hey, the best song overall is Suburban War. Im surprised it didnt make your list!
@kaisamsa I find it very epic; reminiscent off Neon Bible, if you ask me... Suburban War is actually pretty good, I just don't like that it shares some of the same lyrics as The Suburbs.
@Volturism You left out my favorite "City With No Children " a wonderful tune-Arcade Fire great stuff- I like to play City With No Children looping back to back with Nick Cave's poignant "O'Children " after that its Modern Man played next to Nick Cave's Abattoir Blues. and so it goes - GORD #gordspoetryfactory
@Volturism That's absolute rubbish. The album is perfectly crafted - you clearly just haven't made an effort to listen to it. Name one song which is not simply filler, and I'll agree. Sure, like with Radiohead, they're not all songs to love, but all of them work in the album's context.
@000DarkNite000 Well, I have listened through it four times, so I can't be blamed for not trying. The album's deficit is not that it's packed with fillers, Arcade Fire is too good a band to do that, it's that the songs that contextualize the album, notably since it's a concept album, are just not doing the trick for me. They're not BAD, Modern Man for instance are among their best, but songs like Ready to Start and Suburban War just bore the hell out of me. It takes more than craft to entice.
i have been wondering for awhile now what the "fresh" arcade fire would sound like after my mind was already blown away from the suburbs. and this damn well does not disappoint
@esurell I completely agree, Win is thankfull of a religious background and it helped him form a world view he admits he no longer practices but its still something he cares about but he has no taste for the contradictive, conservative and sometimes often immoral takes on religion aswell as it's commercialisation such as preachers making money off 'private prayers', the very thing that inspired Neon Bible (money grabbing preachers and the church becoming a commercial enterprise)...
so i heard of arcade fire and decided to finally look up their music today, ... fuuuuuck i think i just found my new favourite band of all time. and this here is my favourite song.
sorry taylor swift, you've been knocked down to #2.
The lyrics are so subversive, speaking in tongues is a reference to preachers 'channeling christ' and hypocrite, reader, my double my brother is suggesting the idea of the hypocrisy in religion today but at the same time its not an attack on this its win merely stating he doesn't understand how this has happened or rather they are 'speaking in tongues'....
@TheSnooch123 Very good analysis Snooch. I have been on a 1 year binge of Arcade Fire and have been absolutely enamored by this band and their concepts. I agree with you in that it is not an attack much like Neon Bible was not an attack on Christianity, but more of a perspective on religion that is worth considering. Win is definitely on record of saying he's had a profound interest in religion and culture. The concept that our technological advancement has stripped us of our humanity is tru
It's Canada Day and AF are one of the reasons to be proud of our country and culture. If you don't like them, don't listen or comment. HAPPY CANADA DAY!
@audrey60hepburn You mean 2 of the current 8 members are from Quebec. Being based in Montreal =/= from Quebec. Most members are from Texas or Ottawa. If you don't like it, get out of Canada.
@MrSoleil And what about Interpol? and what about queens of the Stone Age? And what about The Mars Volta? There are a lot of "best band of the world" but i must admit arcade fire is one of those.
ahhhhhhh speaking in tongues!

The lyrics are so subversive, speaking in tongues is a reference to preachers 'channeling christ' and hypocrite, reader, my double my brother is suggesting the idea of the hypocrisy in religion today but at the same time its not an attack on this its win merely stating he doesn't understand how this has happened or rather they are 'speaking in tongues'....

remember the final verse of Baudelaire's 'Au Lecteur'? it reads 'tu! hypocrite lecteur!-mon semblable,-mon frère!'...

Kenna6746 8 months ago 24
@Kenna6746 I'm sorry but they're from Quebec (Montreal) not Canada... there is not one french-canadian person in Quebec that is proud to be canadian!
audrey60hepburn 5 months ago
@audrey60hepburn You mean 2 of the current 8 members are from Quebec. Being based in Montreal =/= from Quebec. Most members are from Texas or Ottawa. If you don't like it, get out of Canada.
