  • Jimmy, you said to use the Ketostix first thing in the morning when you get up to get an accurate reading. However, then you said to not use it when your bladder is full. And your bladder definitely is full when you get up in the morning. So should I wait until after I urinate in the morning and then test the next time but before I eat?

  • Hi, first of all, love the vid very informative, after all the google searches this is the easiest to understand & love the name livin la vida low carb..lol,i need to lose bodyfat while maintaining muscle mass being in ketosis will burn fat right but i have been told this depletes glycogen (which will flatten my muscle..is this true) do you think it would be best to lower carbs as much as possible without entering ketosis so i can still maintain muscle or being in ketosis, thanks for the help

  • Ketosis is perfectly harmless and a natural part of a healthy low-carb, high-fat diet. You can burn body fat while building muscle mass eating a ketogenic diet. Read THE TNT DIET by Dr. Jeff Volek and Adam Campbell for more info on this. In the absence of carbohydrate in the diet, your body replenishes glycogen stores through a process called gluconeogenesis where glucose is produced through the liver from the protein you eat.   • the only way i have registered in the dark purple is when i take the test after i eat other then that its always a step down from that in the mornings... thanks for the video.. i was starting to stress about it too after reading tons of stuff in forums lol

  • I understand that being in ketosis is what matters, and that sometimes the color can be darker from dillution. but cant it also mean that the darker purple means you are burning more fat?

  • You would think that, but it's just not true. Ketone bodies are either present or not. There isn't "greater" fat-burning from MORE ketone bodies. I appreciate the response, though. :)

  • Jimmy, thanks SO very much for this video! I had been using Keto Stix in the past and thought I was not in ketosis because it was not in the purple zone! I gave up because I was following a low carb diet and felt that I had to go even lower in carbs to achieve the results to get me in the purple zone! Needless to say, I became bored with the diet and completely gave up. Now I know that any change means I am burning fat! Thanks for the heads up on this!

  • I NEVER EVER show ketones. Even below induction levels. It's so weird.

    I wonder is it because I have always drank so much water. Or because I have only tested in the evenings.

  • I bought some of the sticks as well and mine are always the same color no matter what I eat. Carbs or no carbs it's always the same. Weird, huh?

  • Which makes my point exactly! You probably use all of your ketone bodies for fuel, so you don't show any on the strips.  That's okay as long as you are keeping your carbohydrate intake reduced.
