  • Awesome video made even more impossibly awesome by the fact that it is the original 5 Temptations including Eddie Kendricks (falsetto lead), Otis Williams, David Ruffin (tenor lead), Paul Williams (the first of the original Temptations to die from sickle cell anemia and cirrhosis of the liver ) and the fabulous "working bass", Melvin Franklin!

  • The choreography........THE DAMN CHOREOGRAPHY........ALONE.....made the Tempt's untouchable! When you take the time to add on "mesmerizing vocal harmonies" & "dazzling wardrobes"......comparisons with other male R&B vocal groups become completely ridiculous. The Tempt's not only set the standard for future R&B groups such as Jodeci, Dru Hill & Boyz 2 Men........they actually outlasted them! How sick is that?

  • anytime i hear this song, it reminds me of the movie "it", adapted from a stephen king novel

  • Otis is the man period, read the book.Otis was the glue that keeps the Temps together past and present he is a phenom.A toast to you Big O THE MAN.

  • People taking shots at Otis is getting kind of old. No he was not the greatest singer in the group but he was the one that held them together. As great of singers as the other Temps were, I don't think the group would of lasted long without Otis and Melvin. Would have been too many egos fighting for lead singing spots.

  • For The Misinformed: Otis Williams is the 2nd Tenor in The Temptations....The 2nd Tenor is thee MOST important harmony note when it comes to vocal harmony because it's the glue that holds the Baritone & 1st Tenor together...Otis knew his position & played it well...he knew that though he could sing a few lines (which he did especially on the later 60's stuff), Eddie, David & Paul were the BETTER lead singers which is why you never saw Otis trying to fight for a lead song

  • @lawplanet12 I totally agree, in addition to singing 2nd tenor, Otis also sang 1st tenor and baritone, because of the different leads, Paul, Eddie, David and even when Dennis joined the group, he was able to switch his range to accommodate the respective leads with the harmony remaining intact.

  • @lawplanet12 - Thank you. I grew up singing in NYC All City Music Chorus...my position was 1st Alto and I used to HATE how 'boring' our position was. I thought the sophranos were so lucky. It took some good old fashion wisdom later on down the road to realize how important of a role we played as 1st altos but mostly how none of it would sound right without ALL of the ingredients - sopranos, altos, tenors, baritones and bass, alike.

  • @lawplanet12 I hear what you are saying, but what about sweet Melvin? I sure would have loved to hear his vocals more clearly and more often on their tracks.

  • Why didnt Otis ever sing? lmao. He sucked ass.

  • @teamnikedream correction: Otis Williams is the 2nd Tenor in The Temptations....The 2nd Tenor is thee MOST important harmony note when it comes to vocal harmony because it's the glue that holds the Baritone & 1st Tenor together...Otis knew his position & played it well...he knew that though he could sing a few lines (which he did especially on the later 60's stuff), Eddie, David & Paul were the BETTER lead singers which is why you never saw Otis trying to fight for a lead song

  • These guys are not lip sync, true magnetism and charisma!!

  • spread the word watch the movie

  • I almost cried watching this. I wish they still made music like this.

  • was are the only 1 that got chills?

  • u know that paul died cuz he killed himsslef!! david died from like not paying for crack!! and eddie died by lung cancer! melvin died from leg cancer... poor otis, all his friends died and his son died... he has the saddest story ever so be nice pleaz

  • @bingbong2ify They Were Not Otis Friend Only One Who Was Otis's Friend Was Melvin

  • @LisaNicoleLopes whatevs

  • @LisaNicoleLopes well i just thought cuz paul and eddy were always there... so i just thought

  • @bingbong2ify As Time Went On Most Of The Members Besided Melvin Didnt Like Otis

  • moron, how many songs did you write, LOL!!!!! NONE

  • it's amazing these guys were so great and known since the Beatles were !st on Ed Sullivan on feb 9, 1964. you would have thought they would have been overshadowed by the British invasion. just shows you how great they were.

  • wen need to bring the classics back :D

  • I think people fail to realise, especially Justin Bieber fans...i.e. younger generations is that this music is history. It has influenced their favorite singers, preformers, actors all the same. Anyone who doesn't love this simple, sweet innocent song is burning in hell.

  • @LizzMoney I'm A Fan Of Justin Biebe & I Love All Types Of Music Especially Motown So STOP Attacking Justin Bieber's Fans Smh

  • im surprised great artist have only little bit likes and people like justin bieber got millions

  • @l0kelani143 - because they don't realize what real music is and there wouldnt be a justin bieber if we didnt go thru all the different genres of music over the years - elvis, jerry lee, motown, british invasion etc.

  • 3;30 Otis all off beat off step...Damn!!

  • @jazzruff He had to take a breather.. lol

  • all the women in the video look on point.

    like perfection.

  • great video- one of the best items on youtube-thnx!!

  • you had to be in really great shape to be a Temptation to dance and sing like that !

Check out those moves! awesome !

  • The only "videos" i want to see are live performances with live musicians. This one rocks bells. I see the funk brothers inthe background, i see eddie vamping eimprovisation, i see otis mess up, all i don't see is eddie's microphone.

  • Awesome Post !! They were absolutely JAMMIN'

  • lol ruffin is swagged the fuck out!!!!

  • WOW! Folks, this is incredible, historic footage....NEVER will we witness anything like this in music again. The Classic 5 Tempts sing their first big hit song live with the Funk Brothers! ARE YOU F#*@ING KIDDING ME?! It literally gets no better that this. Behold and bow down to Black music GREATNESS!

  • Being in a band is like being in a disfunctional family. A bunch of different personalities will clash. Otis is the man that held the TEMPS together...

  • Where does the interview with Otis come from?

  • "You know you smell so sweeet! oooh ooooh!"

  • This is so cutee Eddie looks like a lil kid....he had a really bone struture *ohh* with the cutest ears!! OH WAT THE HECK HE WAS JUST FINE!!! <3333

  • Damn! Eddie was so cute and sweet! They were just beyond awesome! Love them! There will never again be a time like this - nor talents like these!

  • 3:38 - It looks like Otis is laughing and look at Melvin and David boogying! They were so great...I love them so much!!

  • Man check out sweet Eddie and knockout punch of David thanks for this video brother. To see them in their earliest innocence is AWESOME!

  • This was in there prime we will all age in die but rejoice to life such as this =]

  • good heavens this is way before my time but i love it so much!! oh i love melvin franklin, those big beady eyes are so gorgrous! look at the dances back then whoo!. i kinda wish i could take a journey back in time just to see this live

  • lol, "Jesus, this sound hokey". That made me laugh.

  • Love this song!!

  • Thank you so much for posting this video! It's such a shame people my age don't appreciate music like this. This is REAL music. Love it. :)

  • Beautiful

  • I love that Otis show that David and him at one time was very close. I believe we may never see a group of this calibur. I grew up with New Edition, but they didn't have voices as goo as the Temps. I think that fame, money and other factors can change the nature of a friendship. Drugs and alcohol is most destructive among the minorities and the poor!

  • @nubiansista4life Johnny beats all of the temptations and Ricky beats most besides maybe ruffin

  • why did you cut off the part where they walk off stage?

  • i love this song, i found the song by accident

  • Oh, and I might add....Eddie is TOO pretty!! My, my, my what a handsome, handsome man he was and he had the most beautiful voice I've ever heard. He can sing to me forever. He's everything a woman could ever dream of/ask for in a man. Love you babe. *blush*

  • I'm so obsessed with the legendary, great Temptations. Everyone has an opinion and degrade Otis and David as people when in fact, we are all imperfect "outsiders looking in" and don't know the real story (despite what the movie projects or what Otis says because the others aren't here to speak for themselves) so who are we to judge? The fact of the matter is, they were great, professional entertainers even if they suffered personally. They all played a role in eachother's success. Love them all.

  • I an so thankful for all the temptations, they all were the best, all mess up at one time or another, but it did't make them less of a tempt, Otis is one of the temptations and one of the lead singers, you don't have to lead songs to make you a leader, thank God for Otis who had the insight to lead the group. Thats why they are still around today.

  • I just downloaded this mp3 at audiogetnow..com

  • Eddie was one he'll of a singer!

  • Ha! Never mind.....4:25.....

  • Which one is Eddie?

  • @sandrochatlos1 He's the lead singer. One of the best first tenors, ever, and I mean

    EVER!

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!

  • I like how the old videos look.

  • Yes, this behinds the scenes video is great... I'll order the DVD.... thaxs john

  • Even back then it shows just how a studio can enhance a voice. Eddie is singing fine, just sounds a lot different from the studio.

  • For real Otis was the leader but the weakest all he did was fake smile

  • Otis messing up the steps as usual 3:29, no wonder he wanted "a group" so much he knew he could never dance or sing on his own. Its a pity he is now getting all the glory. The talents brought us joy and still lives on -David, Eddie, Paul, Melvin, beautiful voices and dance moves

  • @gimmyjaycaddy1 dont get it twisted, if it werent for otis ther would be no temptations. the man is a phenomenal talent and all of the tempts gave him props in life. everybody wants to be a critic of what they dont 4real understand. isnt it interesting that you and i are watching his video and not yours. hmmmm???

  • @oldschoolsituationz ok so what song did he sing lead on?

  • @oldschoolsituationz Otis was a perfectionist that kept tight leads on his bandmates. If they would have listened to Otis they (Paul Williams and David Ruffin) might still be with us today...

  • SO ADORABLE! :) Look at their long legs dance! :) It's so cute! I love this song!

  • Good Lord why on this green earth was I not with Eddie Kendrick so darn fine. Oh wait Daivd you look darn good as well.

  • This looks like a real good DVD!

  • how picky do you have to be to be finding messed up steps here? these guys were smooth, smoother than all the aerobics and martial arts classes pretending to be rock and hiphop performances on stage this past decade!

  • I wonder is the go go girl David's girlfriend. According to one of his girlfriend's book she was asked to do go go dancing by Berry Gordy.

  • Otis messed up the steps when they broke it down....In my opinion he was the weak link in this group

  • :@jazzruff: NO, THAT IS NOT TRUE!!!!, If that was so the group would NOT be here 50 STRONG years later because it would have disbanded and died with the 1960s, Thank you very much!!!!!!!!!!!.

  • @jazzruff Well no shit he isn't a great talent like Paul or David but he still knows what to do and he's a good singer, listen to Don't Send Me Away.

  • its The Arthur Murry Show

  • :-)

  • Comment removed

  • Sorry, Your right that is Murray The K in the background.

  • Murrary the K is in the foreground.

  • ECH!! I hate the way the song is sung live

  • You can tell that they were excited. This was their very first hit ( with pretty Eddie singing lead) that put The Temptations on the map after several years of no hits. And the rest is history.......

  • @tommiexander This live performance actually happened after My Girl on June 28th of 1965.

  • Dig Murray the K in the background.

  • they was the best bac then!!

  • Smokey was a genius wiht the lyrics.and once the Tempts applied their voices to this simple, but cathcy song, the rest as they say is history.

The Way You Do The Things You Do,

  • In the 60's my older brother use to dress the same way Melvin is dressed. Thanks for posting - this one is more clearer than the other TWYDTTYD,
