Saw Rich and the band do this the first time I saw them in HS. Then later on they turned off all the lights in the sanctuary and we made it "rain" with nothing but our hands. It was an amazing night. Miss Rich tremendously!!!!
Oh WOW! I remember this cup routine taking over in youth Group! lol! I remember working on it with my brother mark! Ha ha! And the song of course we all went crazy over it! It's taken from the book of James chapter 2.... Faith Without Works! Its DEAD! Awsesome memories! I miss christians like Rich...Keith Green. TThe ones that remain are still here for a reason. But the ones that are gone left an incredible impact. Were are the ones taking their place? Time is short...Melody
We got to learn this routine in Masters Commission...it took me DAYS of practice on my own to get the correct pattern down. Now it comes so easily I don't even have to think about it.
Okay, I just heard this song on a Rich Mullins cd I pulled out (had forgotten it was his song)... then Googled it and found this cup thing... These guys are awesome!!! I love this accompaniment!
I was blessed enough to see him on that tour when he came through my town. It will forever be in the top 10 moments of my entire life. I was just 12 years old. I'm almost 25 and he is still my favorite musician/performer/songwriter of all time.
Thanks so much for the video. It put a smile on my face, for sure.
met rich once! circa 1992. no shoes..t-shirt...lol. i was 19. i wanted to be a musician more than anything. I asked him for advice. He told me to be God's. Belong to God. in 1997, i was working in a cd store when i leatned of his death. i nearly fell to the ground. i remember his words though. Im not much of a musician...but i belong to God. Does anyting else really matter?
What fantastic advice. I'm not much of a musician either, but I'd like to think that I belong to God too!
One regret I have, is that I decided not to travel to see Rich, as it seemed a long way from Sheffield to London, England. A few months later, he was dead. Now I'll have to wait for eternity to meet him. Rest in peace Rich.
Got to do this with the band back in 91 in Spoken, WA. Our local station in Sandpoint, ID had a Sunday night Christian program. The DJ was a friend of mine and invited a few of us to go to a concert. I had never heard of Rich Mullins before that. We got there early and needed to use the bathroom. When I came out my friends were talking to Rich and the band. We ended up having Spaghetti dinner with then and they set us in the front row. The best concert I have ever been to in my life.
It brings back such good memories to see this! And to know that Eric and Mitch are married and daddies and all that...way to go, Kid Brothers! Got to see them at the last retreat Alyssa and Dave did in Dallas, that was years ago. We'll be seeing Rich again in the New Jerusalem.
Yep it's a great song. Rich Mullins was a very gifted man. So many godly songs coming out of 1 man and everybody gets blessed. Another awesome thing about him was he never knew the amount of money he made which I am sure was in the hundreds of millions. But every quarter he got paid from his record company it went to his church and he had them give him a check for whatever an average working man would get. He never cared about material things or money-it was all about the Glory of God.I miss him
embarrassing question here. we just saw mitch last night in joliet, illinois. Is that him 2nd from the left? I took my kids to see Mitch and wanted to show them videos of Rich. Rich went to be with the Lord when I was pregnant with my son (who is now 10-I also have a daughter who is 8)
(Ironically, I know the guy next to Rich, he is a long time friend of my Pastor-Lary Dean. I believe his name is Mark Robertson?)
If a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod and he dies at his hand, he shall be punished. If, however, he survives a day or two, no vengeance shall be taken; for he is his property. Ex 21:20-21
You may also buy them from among the children of aliens among you, or from their families, whom the begot in your land. These shall become your property: you may keep them as a possession for your children, for them to inherit as property for all time. Such you may treat as slaves. Lev 25:44
So good to see you on here. I imagine you're about 13 now. You're the one with the love for food art, right? I've seen some of your creations. Can't imagine where you get that from :).
Well, I played the cup game at camp, and then again at Dulcimer Week in North Carolina. We had a blast doing it.
Can't believe Beaker has so many kids. Avery, you're a blessing. Thanks for letting us know who you are.
I just learned the cup thing after looking up "The Cup Game" online and watching this video about ten hundred times. It's a lot of fun to do. We're doing it at camp this year.
Hee :) Yeah, i knew the game before i saw Rich use it as percussion in concert way back in 1992. I thought (and still think) it was so brilliant! I mean, who thinks "Hey, we need some percussion, let's do that game we learned at camp?".
The cup game is hard! Especially if ya start giggling :-) He was and is so extremely gifted - and has not stopped blessing my life, although he's been gone from this place 11 years!
I saw your dad and Rich in Atlanta in 1990. Are you Aidan or Avery? Rich and your dad wrote Let Mercy Lead for Aidan. Love that song. I love Eric Hauck too. How's Cincinnati?? God bless you!!
That is a long, long story. Everyone should wear his or her seatbelt. But do you know that - and i refuse to get into detail here because it is just not appropriate - Rich's death saved Mitch's life? I know it's a choice he would make again and again. And i'm glad he's your favorite artist - he was IMMENSELY blessed and gifted. 'Love Rich so much!!
I saw a whole row table @ a radical reality camp way back in 2003... i thought they made it up. I thought it was so cool when I saw them doing this... I think they were an Assembly of God church out of Roseville.
I saw him about 6 mos before his passing & got a brief time to talk w/ him after his concert in Denton, TX. I vividly remember his awesome concert, but even more a thing that's stuck w/ me about him..."what does the lord require of you....do justly, love mercy, &..." ... the last of which was Rich's best characteristic & for which he will ever be remembered. May God bring more Rich's into all of our lives so that we can learn the WAY to HIM!
I definitley couldn't multitask like that when singing! Rich was amazing, his words were powerful, and he just lived an amazing life, the life more people should strive to live.
The special thing about Rich was that he was so genuine. His words especially. Listen to his music and you will see how close to God he really was. I dont think we will ever have another song writer as close to God as Rich was.
Also, a lot of people dont know this, but Rich often wore ragged up clothing because he only kept (money wise) what he absolutely needed. He gave most of his possessions away to the poor. Example: 9/10 times he would be walking barefoot.
I saw this concert in Lexington KY. Thanks for posting it. I loved watching them play the cups again after all these years. I still haven't found the musician that matches Rich's talent.
Kind of. The guy next to Rich is Mark Robertson (a ragamuffin) and Mitch McVicker (also a ragamuffin, but not an original one) is the guy second from left. Mitch is the guy who was in the car with Rich when he died. The other 2 guys were from Robertson's side project at the time, although I can't remember the name of the band. They toured with Rich on his last full tour before heading into the studio.
I loved him so much. We hav eseveral of his CD's and I saw him in concert here in Tucson,AZ.he was very cool, loved the Lord deeply and signed my poster "Lesli don't be a screendoor" it was nice.
Whew! Good stuff! I had planned to see him in concert at my church a few months prior to his passing, but it never went through. Lord, I know I'm late saying this to You, but thank You for giving this planet such a man like Rich Mullins.
Yeah . . . .Steve Green is also a Christian singer, and a most amazing man. look up Symphony of Praise - Steve Green . . . it's really cool. You can also find Steve Green's website just by typing in his name. He's awesome. Been to two concerts of his and met him both times. most humble.
Actually, Keith Green and Steve Green are no relation. Just happen to have the same last name. Steve Green Grew up on the mission field in Argentina. His brother is still a missionary. Keith came from a family of nonbelievers, although one of his parents (forgot which) was Christian Science.
I love this video I have it on VHS and love it. Rich was/is one of a kind. I too miss him so much a friend of mine had him to dinner with them while they lived in AK they said he was such a precious person. I miss him so much.
Great song! Great guy...truly walked with the Lord, but with much humor and grace, the best kind of holiness--the Lord and he are probably having a fantastic time in heaven. Thanks so much for this super video!
I enjoyed seeing him in concert several times @ First Baptist in Rolla, Missouri. He performed "One Thing" on the hammered dulcimer before that song had been released. His music was fresh & always full of energy!
Thank you _ Rich Mullins Walked the Talk - Sadly I didnt know of his music and his life in Christ untill he already passed. His music and story are a blessing and legacy of what it means to be a Christian
In the next month, I hope to post the full concert from this series. It really was incredible. There really weren't many Christian artists who did what Rich did in regards to how they lived their lives. I recommend the book by Jim Smith called, "An Arrow Pointing to Heaven".
I love this video! Thank you for the "homeless man" videos!! Rich is still reaching people even now. The way he lived, everything about him. If you have anymore please post them!
