I've just finished making a completely new series of videos, over 40 of them, with better audio (in particular), and they include a remake of this particular one.
If you check out my blog there's a higher quality one of this video there.
Sorry for delayed response to others ... when I get a chance I intend to redo many of the videos on better quality and now have a far better mic to help sound quality.
Hi Tylerjack ... I can't cover everything in every video or they get too long, and repetitive for people who have picked up those skills already.
If you check out the rest of my videos there happens to be one on exact;y what you need to know, hence it was not covered again in this video. Check out the video on cropping photos :)
How did you put the helo into the "clipboard"? I can get a image adn I can make layers of an image, but I can't get those layers to show up on any other images.
I used full screen to see what you selected and couldn't see what it was because the words weren't clear enough to see. I like your tutorial. I am a newbie at photoshop elements 6. I would like to see more clarity to be able to see what you selected.
Volume is terrible. Had to put my YT and computer volume up to high to barely hear it. Other than that, the information is great and straight forward. Recommended it to a friend that is trying to get started.
The best tutorial yet on layers on p.s.elements 8,now if when u select a tool u would show a close up of what u selected,it would be perfect.
actually on this tutorial it was'nt hard to follow but on some other tutorials u can't always tell what they are keying on,thank you,now i will explore u'r other tutorials.
Ahhh...Yeah, it would have really helped if you spoke a little louder or spoke directly into the microphone. But even still, this was an exceptionally good tutorial! I learned alot from this video! Thanks alot! ANd please make more; we must have your knowledge! XD
Thank you thank you thank you. After watching YOUR video I finally got it. I have had a brain freeze on layers for about a year now and YOU taught me layers. I am very grateful. Sincerely :)
Thanks Patrick.

Audiovisual defects aside, this is a very good and succinct lesson on the use of layers. Very worthwhile.

what if the background isn't just one color, or what if the background is "busy", what tool do you use to extract an image?

@Sparklefan He selects a rectangle shape, then he uses the "fill" tool (looks like tipping paint can) to fill it in.
