I have been suffering ADHD since birth. I'm 18 now and am still suffering. I have never taken medication and it's starting to make me wonder...What would I be like now, if I was talking drugs?
I have a speech impediment (I stammer & stutter), I'm hyperactive, hyper-curious. I also have a learning disability which means "I'm slow".
Drugs are bad, I'm not saying they're good. But maybe, for some people, they may be a last resort.
On parents pushing drugs on their kids; you are terribly wrong about what it means when making your children taking medication. I will use my own example. I have a mood disorder. My mom hates the fact that I have to take the medicin, because she knows they turn of my creativity, everything becomes less of an sensation, I think Im a less intelligent on meds also, im getting bored. She sympathizes with that, but she also know, that if i didnt take them, my life would go back to chaos. rethink pls
If you talked/kicked yourself out of depression then it wasnt a severe on. This is probably, in my opinion, that doctors are often too quick too conclude a patient is depressed and not just going thrue a period of sadness. So many people in the western world are mental hypochondriacs. Anyway, I have to say your advice is not right. Sry. Often the solution is also to start on meds and work to get of them. they are needed.
"that's just a whole new stage of abuse if you're just telling your kid they're not good, they're not right the way they are." abuse. really. how fucking DARE you.
@03Xsimplicia03X Being touched by this subject, i thank you for that statement. Ive been there, and i back it up with first hand experience when i agree. This advice can be quite damaging, especially for the desperat and emotionally unstable person who now may question him/hers parents love. And that wont help in any way. This guy isnt at all as wise and intelligent as some here apparently take him for. your right, it is indeed sad
I told my parents I was depressed when I was 14. I had been since age 12. They put me in counseling when all I really needed was support and love that they didn't understand how to give. I resorted to self harm. After 3-4 months I went to them again. My mom rolled her eyes and ignored me. They threw me on meds and never ask how i am. Ever. They don't get it. I agree with everything you say here. I just wish people took their kids seriously. Just because we're young doesn't mean we're stupid.
You are a fucking dumb ass. Doctors KNOW that meds are a temporary fix (except for people with psychosis, because their brain chemistry is ACTUALLY FUCKED UP.) People with clinical depression usually only take the medication for around 5 years. But people with severe schizophrenia, like my mom, need to take it for like because it is a disease. Just like cancer. Have you ever heard the saying "people who think they are completely mentally healthy are actually the insane ones"? That is you.
my mom has never forced meds on me, i just don't like the way they make me feel, but it seems more like she's just ignoring it rather then helping me by talking to me. then again i dont think she could handle my thought process
When I was at college my tutor told me a very interesting story. It was about a young girl, who would constantly fidget. Her teachers picked up on this, one of them had the idea that she was a dancer. Others thought she needed to be put on meds. Long story short, that teacher took her to a ballet school and she eventually became very famous. Putting kids on meds (in a lot of cases) is just the easy solution.
Depends on the severity of the mental illness. Some can be managed by therapy alone, but there are some that need psychiatric medication or they can potentially be dangerous to the public and to themselves. Some example are severe mania resulting from bipolar disorder, I met a person with schizophrenia, stalked me and tried to burn my house. He told me that someone in his head told him to do it.
@will83tnt ;P wen i was a kid (even till this day) i use ritalin
basicly i used it to be able to focus on scool, i have ADD and i guess if i couldv chose not to back than i still would, without them i proberly wouldnt even be able to get the diplomas im getting now ore finish scool ore whatever ;P
parents dont just say, oh i dont like you, you can be drugged up, parents care about thier children and put them on drugs iof they think its going to help them, they dont just suddenly say oh i dont like you i want a fake you so i can pretend your normal, they think the drunks will help, but you are right drugs are a temporary solution
@eeveeheart Yeah, my brother did this and after a period of time we just started to reduce the dosage to less and less. This stopped his ADHD and now he's just a normal kid again :)
@bipolargurl94 Im bi polar as well, I chose to control myself. I know its hard, you just need to find an outlet to cool you down. When I start getting mad for no reason, I either listen to music or read. I know its hard but think, people 100 years ago didnt have meds for being bi polar and they managed.
Yeah I was on a ton of meds for a while. If you're deep down in shit, it HELPS, but really, it's not going to solve any problems. this guys pretty smart
my teachers request my parents to put me on drugs because i dont listen in class and am always doing somthing im not suposed to but my parent refuse to put me on them. I all most wish i could take them cuz it is really hard to act normal or even normal-ish
yeah they wanted to put me on ritalin.. my mom was gonna do it but my dad said fuck no.. I had issues with doing the school work but the older and older i got my parents realized i was actually bored in school cause everything was so easy. Now im a freshman who does fine in school and is currently teaching himself algebra 2.. no meds.. no mean words.. only love
my stepbrother is on drugs. he forgot to take his meds one day and he ended up walking around the house speaking to himself with a flashlight in the middle of the night. i think he should keep using them
I can understand your opinion but ADD is not cureable and can not be ''talked'' out its a processing disorder that means if you do have ADD your brain does not work the same way as others , your memory is not the same you cant learn the same . Medicine is the only cure for it you can not have stratigies to get rid of it. I myself have add and chose myself to go on concerta which is a form of riddilen and it definitally changed the way i learn and helps me out alot with learning.
@LinzahAnimeFreakk aswell parent's can not force a child to go on perscription meds they have to be tested first and be diagnosed with ADD before they can go on the medication or else they would be drugged out and high. So these parents your talking about must of tested their childen and that would mean the children really do have add and really do need the medication so they are not doing anything wrong. They are simply helping their children.
@LinzahAnimeFreakk unless the child really does say no i do not want to go on them and the parent forces them anyways then i definitally disagree with that because the child should have their own choice of weather they want their brain to be on drugs so obviously I agree on that part
I've been on Censerta (dont know if thats spelled right) Since I was in first grade and I've noticed myself that once the meds wear off, I am he opisite of how I ac in school. so one day I wanna go hrough a week without them to see what its like
I agree, if your kid develops some sort of disability, don't just throw drugs at them and hope for the best. My bro suffers from schizophrenia, and even though drugs are needed to control it, he'd be worse off if he never got the councling needed to keep yourself sane during the worst times of that illness. I mean yeah some people have this, and don't really suffer from it, but when you see, hear, and feel the things he does, its horrible.
I take zoloft for mild depression and if you look up all the symptoms of it, there are more symptoms WHILE taking it than the things it treats and the withdrawal symptoms. Occasionally I will flush my daily pill down the toilet, but then I'm scared what will happen to me if I go too long without taking it. I agree, it is a type of abuse, emotionally and physically. Why did my parents have to give me drugs to fuck my brain up just to make me "normal".
You know i see nothing wrong with weed. i dont do it myself but a friend started doing and he improved his grades , had less of a bad record ( less fights and bad mouthing teachers ). he was a better person cause he was also happier
i cant stand parents say drugs r bad dont smoke pot but then they dope the same kids up on meds they dont need. My best friends parents any time she got introuble she got more meds she had like 30 meds a day
i think that using drugs as a first resort makes kids think 'oh, drugs fix everything.' and those are often the kids who turn out to be potheads and stoners. =/
@GeneralHats It's still an illegal "drug", by most standards. The only way it's legal is if it's "medicinal." It's illegal because of it's side effects, the feeling of being high, which, because of the natural chemicals in it, constricts the blood vessels, and therefore, making you more unable to make good decisions. Drugs: Big no no.
@GeneralHats Why is that any of your business? I know what happens, from first hand experience, when people get high. That's all I need to know that even a plant's side effects can cause your decision making to take a huge down-fall.
@MydniteDaun Been smoking pot for 4 years. Grades are normal from when i didnt ( b's c's ) and all i do when i get high is watch tv, play video games or chil with friends. And to be honest Pot does less damage to your body than alcohol and tobacco, also weed is considered MEDICINE in 12 states. And if you havent expierienced it yourself. You have no valid point on the substance, Good day.
@GeneralHats It's very ammusing that you're intelligence on the subject is so low that you have to resort to name calling and paying more attention to ones physical attributes to get your low-brow point across. As I say that, Pot=munchies. Too much pot = more munchies = fat = depression over fat = eating to cure depression = more fat = (what you call) "EMO". :)
@GeneralHats To cure means to fix permanently. How exactly does a temporary high CURE a diagnosis that can reoccur at any time during a person's life?
@GeneralHats Actually, it's not, and actually, Marijuana is just as dangerous as any other "drug," depending on the person. Therefor, your argument is still invalid. :) Bainao.
@MydniteDaun Just as dangerous? I remember seeing on a website about Marijuana saying that it is impossible to overdose.. And also your saying that you would rather shoot up Heroin than smoke Marijuana? Tell me that, if you absolutly had to chose between the 2 of them. What would you pick? Because heroin i'm sure fucks you up hardcore.
@GeneralHats Any highly addictive substance, including marijuana, can kill you. Marijuana, just like cigarettes, can cause cancer of the mouth, lungs, and possibly the brain. No, you can't overdose. But I would rather die quickly than have to live out my life with mouth cancer.
i had the opposite problem growing up. i wanted to get depression meds but my mom refused to let me have them because she thought most psychological diseases/mental illnesses are actually just "sin problems".
both of my children were born with severe ADHD, for several years i dealt with them without meds, but this was before school age. What you have to understand is that if your child is unable to learn in school, and your child is also disrupting other children's ability to learn, your not really given a choice. I medicate my children, I also have them on a completely organic diet. I advocate for my children by doing research and knowing my rights, I love my kids.

There are better options.Problem is, in many cases, parents have little choice when it comes to school officials,DSS,ect...Changes in diet and discipline are longer lasting "fixes".
'Ignore the makeup - comedy sketch', that is BS. Why didn't you just wash it off before recording your video? You are obviously a raging faggot (maybe still in the closet), or if not, I am pretty sure that you would gladly help them out when they are busy, for free!
@eamonndoh fuck you ok look he has eyeliner on oooooh wow is it hurting you. no he has the balls to express himself you think your the best because you make fun of someone who is emotinaly stronger than and phsyicly stronger than you so go back in ur moms basement and troll somemore else you "Raging Faggot".
@M2Snipes I certainly do not think I am the best. And I am quite sure that he (or she?) is not emotionally (spelt correctly) or physically (spelt correctly) stronger than I am. Get a life, obviously you are that way inclined as well. By the way, I am far from a raging faggot, I personally have filled four prams in my life, something I am sure you will never be able to do. Get off my case you fruit.
My dad was one of the first people in the 70's to take Ritalin.
I myself have ADHD since I was 8, I'm now 16.
I choose to take medication, as I personally notice as more socially awkward, less intelligence, out of place me.
Everyone I know, who knows me knows if I've had my medication.
I personally believe when you see what you can accomplish when medicated you may want to medicate, as I've done some remarkable things while medicated.
ADHD is remarkable it's the ability to do anything.
conversation with an 8 year old? i don't think children always have the capability to change themselves through conversation.
if ADD/ADHD is interfering with a child's development, and they're not even able to sit still long enough to say WHY they can't sit still very long, i think drugs are a nice alternative to the child not learning.
I was put on prozac in third grade. I switched to Zoloft a year or two later. I was on an extreamly high dose at about 8 years old. I'm 14 now and have been off any meds for about a year. My doctor didn't take me off the medicine I just refused to take it any more. Giving a kid that young pills and telling them something is wrong with them is not right. I always felt like I was different growing up because of my depression. Please don't put your kids on "head meds" if there is an alternative.
ridilin is the shit i was on it for nineyears that stuff makes u invincible and shit i did shit i couldnt normaly do liket jump off the top of my house and hitt he ground running
When my dad was 7, his parents let doctors experiment on him. He often hallucinated at age 7 just because his parents were worried he could get too many migraines. Doctors were treated like gods those days. To some extent, they still are.
Also, I am clinically depressed. My medication helps to balance the chemicals which are, for whatever reason, screwed up. It's not going to "go away" just because I decide something.
Anyway, rant complete haha. I do agree that parents should try out other options first.
In my brother's case we have deemed it necessary. It's gotten to the point where he is literally threatening our lives, and the medication helps a bit. We are also getting him actual help, not just covering the problem. But sometimes it does give you that little bit of extra distance that you need.
ive been on add meds for about 8 years. sinse i was 4 i have ben on a madication. sinse i was 11 and a half i was on a higher dose than my big brother. this sucks
I was on drugs for A.D.D. and it made me start acting crazy. I was VERY emotional crying at everything and then emotionless at other times. I made my parents take me off of them.
Hey Oni Baby, dig this homes you be styling in this thang. Sheeet! You a suave motherfukcer playing the sensitive creature inside a mofukcin after school special.. JOKING! Onision YOU ROCK and I pretty much agree with like %80 of what you say. Well said in this video.so very elegant your surprise ending telling certain crybabies to get off it and ..."Start enjoying life because you only get so much of it". (I hope I am accurate here in my way of saying what you said, Onision).
once the kid is seen by a doctor - and a drug is prescribed - the parents have no choice but to give those drugs to the kid - otherwise - the authorities - may step in -
sales = profits - new 'illness' are being 'created' just to optimize profits
@CodeMonkeyWithACanon This reminds me of some tv show where they were explaining how new mental illnesses are being created just so doctors can make money. More mental illnesses means more meds prescribed, which means more profit. If everyone in the world was tested for a mental illness, every single person would have at least one of them. It's ridiculous.
I agree about people excessively using meds as the easy road.
Some doctors make money from prescribing stuff.
But in some cases it really is necessary.
I hardly doubt someone with schizophrenia can just stop letting crap get to them, some people with OCD, BiPolar Disorder and other mental issues- have VERY real brain problems and have to take meds to just make their neurotransmitters function like everyone else's. Study a bit about it.
& I really wish you wouldn't take the issue so lightly :(
I've had OCD since I was a young girl, but it's not as bad as it used to be. I got so mad at my parents when I found out there was medicine that could have helped me, and they never even consudered giving it to me. Drugs aren't always a bad thing, but if your doing it just because it makes your child's behavior easier to cope with, that's pretty selfish
My mom and therapist wanted me to go on medication when I said I didn't want to live anymore. Then I told them that I wanted to be happy for me, not with a drug. Now, I'm a VERY happy 6th grader without any medication. So think about how happy you can be without any drug.
Onision, I absolutely completely 100% agree with what you are saying because i have ADHD and depression, and i was put on drugs as soon as my rents found out and it did make me feel unloved by them. I was on ritalin from the time i was 5 til i was 12 and it messed up my heart, i was on strattera for a month and it messed up my stomach, and i was on adderall for 2 years and it messed up my head. Now im off everything and feel better than i have ever felt in my entire life.. And poor kitteh lol :)
Wtf i dont understand parents that drug their own kids. Like r u serious? U honestly cant let ur kid be natural and be thrmselves? So what if their a little more active ? Thats ur kid. Deal with it
Not everyone can just will depression away. It's a nice idea though and no doubt works for some. What you described sounded like a temporary situational depression that most people go through at least once in their lives. Major depressive disorder is a chronic depression usually passed through genetics or caused by frequent trauma and abuse. It is not simply willed away.......trust me.
Neurobehavioral disorders are prenatally defined you idiot.
Stop talking about stuff you have no idea about and telling people how to parent when you have no idea what it's like to be a parent and anything about the biological basis of a lot of drugs.
And it's really sick the way you get people to do what you want by guilt.
i agree with the overmedication of our kids. that being said, there are conditions that only medication will fix. i would hate to see someone who legitimately needs anti-depressants be deterred from taking them, and continue to suffer. there is a stigma associated with anti-depressant meds that is unfair and actually dangerous. i do not take anti-depressants, but my spouse does, and trust me, she needs them. she is a wonderful young lady, but when she goes off her meds, she gets terribly sad.
Dear Onision, I was put on depression meds ( switched through 3 different kinds) when I was 15-17 years old. This was all my fault. My mentality was so pathetic that my parents thought i actually had a serious problem. Then a couple years later I noticed that life if what you make it "mind over matter" so to speak. Those meds make me so dull, so pathetic. Ever since I made the decision to get off them AND CHANGE MY MENTALITY I have been wonderful. But, some people have it way worse than I do...
I actually feel that it is more the Doctors fault that kids are on medication, they get money for prescribing medds, it is not only head medds but pain medds too. when I got my wisdom teeth pulled my doctor prescribed me hydro codone, for two weeks..............I did not take them for all that long and I had withdraws. my point is it is not only the the parents
I've watched a lot of the Onision Speaks videos, and one thing I've come across, is that you think about situations completely differently to most people I know, like this one. As well as being a comedic genius, you're a really intelligent dude.. Something hard to come across in a lot of people these days.... Fav'd and Liked.
My parents have me on medicine for anxiety disorder, which is a total bullcrap diagnosis in my eyes. I mean, am I the only one who thinks this? Like, everyone worries about things. But everyone is different, and some people worry about things more than others. So does that mean that those people have something wrong with them and need to be put on meds?
people need to get real..how the fuck do parents think there children are supposed to act? they get sent to school everyday and sit down for 6 hours..i was on anti depressents for a few months..my life is polluted by social anxiety now and im goin into college..my parents wouldnt accept me for who i was, because i wouldnt do social things as much as other kids, more introverted.. and this happens sometime to, and in my case, depressed people use humor and comedy do attack the depression and it w
Onision, do research on drugs. They aren't a temporary fix, because they don't work. At least, they don't work better than a placebo, especially not in children.
My friend has a borhter, who is on some sort of medication for his ADHD (I'm afraid I don't know what it's called) and it really does mess him up. He's a real jerk, and blames his ADHD and meds, but it's all in his head as well. I'm sure the fact he's on meds is a large contributing factor. I feel bad for him, even though he's an ass.
ADD is not curable with conversation, i have it myself. It makes everything just too interesting and i fade away with stuff because of that. Conversation is not the cure.
My big sister has ADHD, my parents have worked hard to help here.they always loved the way here She was. But She Had a hard time in school, she got bad grades and failed to work. This made her sad and frustrated.
Medication worked for here, but alsow hard work form here and my parents side. Like you said medication cannot fix the problem. It can only make it easier for somone.
I see the medicine as a supplement to other forms of help. It doesn't help completely. and not everyone needs them. Only a doctor can tell if a child needs medication.
if your a person sayin onision doesn't know anything about that shut up some kids are really screwed up and need drugs but some kids are normal and they're parents put them on drugs because they are lazy adhd is the most blown out disorder because parents don't want to deal with a kid who's being a kid so it depends on the kid and in many ways onision is right
I have been suffering ADHD since birth.

Bettan7 11 months ago
I can understand your opinion but ADD is not cureable and can not be ''talked'' out its a processing disorder that means if you do have ADD your brain does not work the same way as others , your memory is not the same you cant learn the same . Medicine is the only cure for it you can not have stratigies to get rid of it. I myself have add and chose myself to go on concerta which is a form of riddilen and it definitally changed the way i learn and helps me out alot with learning.
LinzahAnimeFreakk 11 months ago
@LinzahAnimeFreakk aswell parent's can not force a child to go on perscription meds they have to be tested first and be diagnosed with ADD before they can go on the medication or else they would be drugged out and high. So these parents your talking about must of tested their childen and that would mean the children really do have add and really do need the medication so they are not doing anything wrong. They are simply helping their children.
LinzahAnimeFreakk 11 months ago
@LinzahAnimeFreakk unless the child really does say no i do not want to go on them and the parent forces them anyways then i definitally disagree with that because the child should have their own choice of weather they want their brain to be on drugs so obviously I agree on that part

GeneralHats 1 year ago
@GeneralHats It's still an illegal "drug", by most standards. The only way it's legal is if it's "medicinal." It's illegal because of it's side effects, the feeling of being high, which, because of the natural chemicals in it, constricts the blood vessels, and therefore, making you more unable to make good decisions. Drugs: Big no no.
MydniteDaun 1 year ago
@MydniteDaun My question. Have you ever smoked pot?
GeneralHats 1 year ago
@GeneralHats Why is that any of your business? I know what happens, from first hand experience, when people get high. That's all I need to know that even a plant's side effects can cause your decision making to take a huge down-fall.
MydniteDaun 1 year ago
@MydniteDaun Been smoking pot for 4 years. Grades are normal from when i didnt ( b's c's ) and all i do when i get high is watch tv, play video games or chil with friends. And to be honest Pot does less damage to your body than alcohol and tobacco, also weed is considered MEDICINE in 12 states. And if you havent expierienced it yourself. You have no valid point on the substance, Good day.
GeneralHats 1 year ago
@MydniteDaun And also I'd rather be a pot head, than a fat emo.

MydniteDaun 1 year ago
@GeneralHats It's very ammusing that you're intelligence on the subject is so low that you have to resort to name calling and paying more attention to ones physical attributes to get your low-brow point across. As I say that, Pot=munchies. Too much pot = more munchies = fat = depression over fat = eating to cure depression = more fat = (what you call) "EMO". :)
MydniteDaun 1 year ago
@MydniteDaun emo=cutting. Weed= Curing depression Being high= Happy.

@MydniteDaun Yeah, not really. OVERALL marijuana is less harmfull to you thqan any "Drug" in this universe
GeneralHats 1 year ago
@GeneralHats Actually, it's not, and actually, Marijuana is just as dangerous as any other "drug," depending on the person. Therefor, your argument is still invalid. :) Bainao.
MydniteDaun 1 year ago
@MydniteDaun Just as dangerous? I remember seeing on a website about Marijuana saying that it is impossible to overdose.. And also your saying that you would rather shoot up Heroin than smoke Marijuana? Tell me that, if you absolutly had to chose between the 2 of them. What would you pick? Because heroin i'm sure fucks you up hardcore.
GeneralHats 1 year ago
@GeneralHats Any highly addictive substance, including marijuana, can kill you. Marijuana, just like cigarettes, can cause cancer of the mouth, lungs, and possibly the brain. No, you can't overdose. But I would rather die quickly than have to live out my life with mouth cancer.

What you have to understand is that if your child is unable to learn in school, and your child is also disrupting other children's ability to learn, your not really given a choice. I medicate my children, I also have them on a completely organic diet. I advocate for my children by doing research and knowing my rights, I love my kids.

Anyway, rant complete haha. I do agree that parents should try out other options first.
theladyofshalott16 1 year ago
In my brother's case we have deemed it necessary. It's gotten to the point where he is literally threatening our lives, and the medication helps a bit. We are also getting him actual help, not just covering the problem. But sometimes it does give you that little bit of extra distance that you need.

once the kid is seen by a doctor - and a drug is prescribed - the parents have no choice but to give those drugs to the kid - otherwise - the authorities - may step in -
sales = profits - new 'illness' are being 'created' just to optimize profits
CodeMonkeyWithACanon 1 year ago
@CodeMonkeyWithACanon This reminds me of some tv show where they were explaining how new mental illnesses are being created just so doctors can make money. More mental illnesses means more meds prescribed, which means more profit. If everyone in the world was tested for a mental illness, every single person would have at least one of them. It's ridiculous.

That cat played too much assassin's creed
xGlennGJx 1 year ago

And it's really sick the way you get people to do what you want by guilt.

i agree with the overmedication of our kids. that being said, there are conditions that only medication will fix. i would hate to see someone who legitimately needs anti-depressants be deterred from taking them, and continue to suffer. there is a stigma associated with anti-depressant meds that is unfair and actually dangerous. i do not take anti-depressants, but my spouse does, and trust me, she needs them. she is a wonderful young lady, but when she goes off her meds, she gets terribly sad.
boodgenuminus 1 year ago
Dear Onision, I was put on depression meds ( switched through 3 different kinds) when I was 15-17 years old. This was all my fault. My mentality was so pathetic that my parents thought i actually had a serious problem. Then a couple years later I noticed that life if what you make it "mind over matter" so to speak. Those meds make me so dull, so pathetic. Ever since I made the decision to get off them AND CHANGE MY MENTALITY I have been wonderful. But, some people have it way worse than I do...
