Annie sounds great! Too bad they couldn't have filled out the backing a bit more. No bass and we can only hear the pianists right hand. He is clearly playing chords on the string synth but they aren't in the mix. Is the DVD the same mix. Voice good - everything else - uh not so good.
Dear Annie, Raine Carosin here and can you believe, at 48 I didn't hear you before this night and I fell in love... your voice is tonic, healing, uplifting, enlightening... thank you so much for sharing yourself, as it was, tonight was a bit of a downer but when I heard you singing, (93.8fm south africa, leon economedes (dj)), I was suddenly transported away from the pain which became like a memory, and I found life... sorry so emotional, but you know how us females wish for total expression!
2011 Fall tour starts in September ! Check the Site for info and tickets. I got mine tonight! My seat is 3rd row at Infinity Theater in CT on 9/16/11 . (There weren't any front row seats open.... but I have a feeling that I'll enjoy the experience anyway) !
@Seahawkwes - OMG. I have to go. If I have to drive out of state. I absolutely can't miss them again. My heart is racing right now. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I thought a couple years ago was to be their last tour and I missed it because I was in Costa Rica.
I seen Renaissance for the 1st time at the Tower in Upper Darby, PA in '74 opening for Al Stewart, they were fantastic, Annie Haslam's voice is/was incredible !!!Great memories
@zqzqpj I really envy you. In '74 I was nine years old and had no idea of what was going on in music. Looking backward at those years, it seems like a dream
Annie the angelic voice of renaissance the pioneers of new age music. Novella is still my favorite album it puts in a state of self imposed isolated state of limbo. Annie and members of Renaissance are Vegetarians. This would explain the creativity behind their music.
I love Annie, I have been buying her records/Renaissance records since I was an early teenager, 1976, when this song was a smash hit. I was at this concert of hers in Philly in '97 and, as at nearly every single one of her PHENOMINAL, BRILLIANT, FANTASTIC concerts I have been fortunate enough to attend over the years, I have always noticed an audience ratio of about 80%-20% Men to Women, lol. The guys just can't seem to stay away, Annie, as I cannot; you are simply one of the best!
Great ladies of music (Annie Haslam): from Celtic roots to an amazing career with Renaissance (one of the alternatives to Yes and Gentle Giant who were their contemporaries) to a fantastic solo album produced by Roy Wood (have to find that on CD!) and every now and then she visits northern NJ to renew her relationships with her myriad fans. AND a voice that can top Robert Plant!!!
Annie was the first singer I ever got to see as a kid. Her incredible voice and talent inspired me to start singing, which I'll always be thankful for. Thanks so much for sharing this video!!!
Annie played NYC last night and she was awesome. There is NO one like her - her voice is extraordinary - she has a 5-octave range. In her encore grand finale she went one entire octave in one shot and sustained that note FOREVER!!! Go RENAISSANCE 2009!
@50sVintage The best female vocalist that we (UK) ever produced... Renaissance are musically brilliant...and Annie's solo stuff is equally wonderful...Saw them a couple of times in the 70's
Celtics environment...and a special taste of wine, flowers, castlells, princess... poetry and morning rising off love... RENAISSANCE......... AMAZING..ANNY ASLAND.... THE BEST...
I do still listen to Renaissance, by any measurement, probably my favorite band of all. The world has changed, but their music can still pull me back to center. ("Lost the way in my confusion, an illusion") Austin, Houston, in the '70s but this upcoming tour is most welcome news! I will certainly try to make it, to see and hear them at least once more. My girlfriend and I made it backstage in Houston. That was so, so wonderful to meet all of them in person. I will always cherish that experience.
Fantastic news - Annie Haslam and Mickey Dunford are taking Renaissance back out on the road - admittedly without certain other key members - but whatever
I wonder if people hearing Annie sing for the first time feel what we long-time fans feel.
At the TOWER Theater in Phila year ago I ran up to the stage and handed her a special flower, a "Bird Of Paradise." She loved it, held onto it, and used it as a pointer as she introduced her band.
I saw Annie in 2002 at The Keswick Theater in Glenside, PA She has always had the 'Voice of Angels'...No female vocalist could hold a candle to her and there has been plenty good ones. She was very lovely and generous , she hung around after the show and Autographed for anyone remaining. I knew this in advance and brought The Album jacket from her Scheherazade LP...Which she gladly signed !! Awesome
Depends on your definition of "better". Haslam certainly is far better technically, complete control over 5 octaves, very unique sound. Slick was better because she was in front of Kantner and crew. Heck, I would sound like a musical genius in front of Paul Kantner, and I can't carry a tune in a bucket.
The concert was in 1975. They did a series of four shows and rotated the opening act. They opened for Stewart the night I was there. Sat in the ninth row. I fell in love with her voice then. And, after all these years, she still makes me swoon!
I seen Renaissance a few times in the seventies, they opened one time for Al Stewart at the Tower in Upper Darby,PA I think in 74..awesome a great memory there!!!Her voice is great!!!
I had the fortunate opportunity to meet Annie Haslam in Lansdale PA. I worked for a veterinarian, and she brought her dog Daisy in . I immediately recognized her. She was so nice & pleasant. She even came back on my day off, and a day that Daisy didn't have an appt to bring me the autograph (photo) I requested. What a super nice personable classy lady !!!! Thank You, Annie
I was in a band with Jon Camp in early 90's wish i knew what he'd done at the time. he never said how well they were maybe he didnt want to be known, he was a great bass player to work with, only since i realise how good they were, thats maybe how he wanted it to be.
Yes she lives in Doylestown, I met her when I worked for a Veterinarian in Lansdale..she was SUPER nice & gave me her autograph too...a Wonderful lady !!!!
My pappy was from Morrisville and we occasionally visit. I think I am going to have to make tracks for Doylestown the next time we hit Bucks County. This is talent. And she must have a lot of guts, too..surviving breast cancer.
I get a little embarrassed playing Renaissance CD's these days because they have dated concepts. You know - melody, chord changes, elevated aspirations -- stuff like that.
I have been a Renaissance fan since 1975. I never get tired of hearing the great voice of Annie Haslam. I saw her/them live in '77. A concert I have always remembered. What a voice!
