civic driver=fail. look at the trap speeds for the quarter mile. civics was over 12 mph higher. although the ms3 can ruin even wrxs in the slalom. shoulda been a more even match. civic was definitely faster in the straights. stock vs stock, ms3 would eat for breakfast, then shit it out like what just occured. in this instance, civic shoulda worked the ms3.
@evosmybitch Meh.. That doesn't always matter, I have seen cars run faster times with lower trap speeds. The MS3 was already pulling away from the Civic, even after he missed his shift. Even if he got the shift in, he might have started to pull the MS3 in a bit, but he wouldn't have passed him before the 1/4 mile was up.
I know the MS3 is faster...but I have to say, terrible terrible driver in the Mugen. Couldnt even put up a good fight. Missing shifts during the drag, garbage form on the autocross, tsk tsk tsk. I suppose my consolations are that the MS3 sounds like a linebacker farting through a twisty straw and that the civic will last practically forever.
@heavymetalmooge The MZ3 sounds much better than most Honda's I have heard. Most opt for fartcans that make their car sound like garbage. There's a rare occasion where one found the exhaust that complimented their motor. That however is rare.
I actually have an 06 si similar to the one in this video, and I happen to be a Mazda tech so I have a lot of time behind both of these cars. And sorry to all the Honda lovers out there, but the speed3 is a better car almost all around.

Being a previous ms3 owner/autox'er, I may be a bit biased. However I feel as if the extra power to the civic was a real crutch. With similar drivers, and a less hp being put out from the civic, the ms3 would of had a tough time with the last 2 challenges. It seems the civic guys were more concerned with the drag times, and this thought among younger car enthusiasts that its all about the power. That civic could be a real contender. It seems this battle came down to maturity and age.

Phatstuph787....I have a 2007 Speed3 with 138,000 miles on it. I beat the shit out of it every day since Feb 2 2007 the day i drove it of the lot new. Never has a single thing ever broke. Not sure why you think they blow up. but, they dont....I even have Cobb DP, Intake, and ECU. I do know one thing....I have NEVER LOST to a punk kid driving a dime a dozed HONDA...lol

Coming from a honda si owner they really had a bad driver for the mugen. The car was making a tons of power well set up suspension an still lost to a half MAZDA/FORD wagon. I know that Mugen would take it all for sure I'll put money down. If I was driving it. ;-)

MSF came with a better prepped car and driver. Hell the mazda came in 3rd overall in the autocross. Even if the si had a better driver I would still say the mazda would come out on top due to better tire selection, suspension setup, and motor setup. But you know honda's with their excuses. IDK much about civics, but from what I looked up on them, they have 197 HP untuned (the mugen has no power increase over base SI) against a Direct Injected (I'm not a fan of the DISI) Turbo charged i4 putting out 263hp untuned. The Mazda would have spanked him all day long in the drags at least. I'm not a Honda Hater, but I'm a Mazda Lover :)

Phatstuph787....I have a 2007 Speed3 with 138,000 miles on it. I beat the shit out of it every day since Feb 2 2007 the day i drove it of the lot new. Never has a single thing ever broke. Not sure why you think they blow up. but, they dont....I even have Cobb DP, Intake, and ECU. I do know one thing....I have NEVER LOST to a punk kid driving a dime a dozed HONDA...lol

Mazdaspeed3's are decent cars. The old man driving the Mazda was making arrogant comments and deserved to be taken down a notch. Second of all, there is a fix for the 8th gen civic transmission. It is called an EM1 (for a very straight owner of a Mazda who does now know Honda chassis codes 2000 Civic SI) CMC. Look it up.

Im actually gettin a 2012 Mazdaspeed 3 TO-FUCKING-MORROW and this video just reassures me that I'm making the right decision. The first time I saw the new body style Mazdaspeed 3, I thought it was a Subaru because of the hood scoop and it was dark out. Coming from a honda si owner they really had a bad driver for the mugen. The car was making a tons of power well set up suspension an still lost to a half MAZDA/FORD wagon. I know that Mugen would take it all for sure I'll put money down. If I was driving it. ;-)

MSF came with a better prepped car and driver. Hell the mazda came in 3rd overall in the autocross. Even if the si had a better driver I would still say the mazda would come out on top due to better tire selection, suspension setup, and motor setup. But you know honda's with their excuses. people are talking a lot of negative things but really, it all comes down to the driver not the car. sure the car has a major role in the outcome, power, traction, handling, weight, tq, etc but if you dont have a driver that knows how to properly use the car, then why bother. id rather take the mugen over the ms3 anyday but in all honesty, the ms3 does have wonder power & it almost feels like youre driving a muscle car with the response to acceleration.

@Constantine1222, Yeah and it shows the majority of Civic folks are poor drivers. I see it on the road every day! But in this case the Civic had NO chance. IDK much about civics, but from what I looked up on them, they have 197 HP untuned (the mugen has no power increase over base SI) against a Direct Injected (I'm not a fan of the DISI) Turbo charged i4 putting out 263hp untuned. The Mazda would have spanked him all day long in the drags at least. I'm not a Honda Hater, but I'm a Mazda Lover :)
