I don't think there will ever be a game as intelligent as Xenogears again. It's a one of a kind experience.
It will not be remade, it will not be rereleased for a portable console. Real intelligence is frowned upon/labeled as insanity these days. Too much controversy surrounds this game for it to remain anything but something old people like us play when we realize new games are terrible/weaker in comparison.
@vagrantlibertine Exactly. Even the newer Xeno games don't come close. They are more mainstream games, because they've been watered-down for the wider audience. Xenosaga is still a great series, and Xenoblade looks great too, but they still won't come close to this. This game's story is easily the best story I've ever seen. No game has made me just sit down and think about life and universe like Xenogears has. I'm sad I'll never be able to experience it for the first time again.
I played Skyrim earlier, and thought to myself, games these days don't have a good story.. I need to replay back those past games. And Xenogears is the one I immediately thought of.
Regardless to say, this has been the best week in years of me playing games. Shame that gaming is more about superficiality than depth nowadays.

nearly as epic as xenoblade chronicles released this year on the wii, i've played and loved both but I don't think any game, ever, will stack up to the storyline in xenoblade chronicles. until you have played it through you just won't understand. genuinely EPIC
This game is so damn good...ever since i played this, i've been searching for a game that could make me feel the same hype and involvement of the game as Xenogears. But I've failed to do that, even tho some of the games does come quite close, e.g Chrono Trigger. But after almost 12 years since i first played this game, it still remains the best game i ever played.
Agreed. This game has the most intricate and involved plot of any RPG to date. In fact, one could even say it rivals the best works of literary fiction in this regard.
Best.....game....ever. The story line is so well thought out that it really grabs you. If they ever made a mini series of this game I would be one of those who´d gladly waste a couple of hundred bucks to buy it. But it wouldn´t be a waste, it would be an investment. The plot and the character developements are brilliant. The combination of ideology and religion and life philosophy is just simply brilliant. Still haven´t found a game that beats this in those categories.
Xenogears = Eva + Gundam ; thus it was the coolest thing ever . I have been playing a lot of RPGs since snes era, nothing beats Xenogears in term of storyline. What do you want to ask? rebellion? war? religion? karma? past, present, future? lost civilization? fate? secret organization? mecha? (for mechafan like myself). Xenogears had all those aspects. This game successfully raped my mind, imagination, and emotion. You are not just playing game, but also watching anime at the same time.
This is still my favourite game of all time. it has been 13 years since I first played this game and until now I have hardly found a RPG that has been able to come close to the standard set by this game. To me ever since Xenogears there has been hardly any RPG that could actually move me emotionally and had an actual game length that can last weeks rather than just days without boring me in anyway. I really hope they would make a full anime out of XG (but better than saga) at the very least.
To tell you the truth, I kinda wanted them to elaborate more on the Diabolos event that was fabled so badly in the game. Like a more visual recap would have been nice or something like that, but I feel like they just skipped it altogether and rushed to the end regarding disk space. Fei and Elhaym forever.
Nothing will ever top this game. Even when this game was brand new, the graphics were nothing special, so today they are undoubtedly a turnoff to most younger gamer's (read: Born in the late 80's or beyond).
So far, I've made it very clear to friends and family I wish to be buried with two things. Those are A.) The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss (best book ever) and B.) My mint, original unopened Xenogears (not greatest hits). Some of my fondest memories involve them.

Sadly I doubt that there will be a remake or sequel. Squaresoft itself cut the budget and shutdown Xenogears project. After that, some of the main development staff left the Square, including Tetsuya Takahashi, who is the director and writer of Xeno series. There is no one who can handle the Xenogears Episode without his help.
I hope that Symphony No.10 would come, the complete version, unlike Beethoven's and the portrait of Sophia. The fate of Xenogears is similar to that of Sophia's portrait.
Though I'm poor at English, I can't pass this without any comment. Xenogears is not flawless and it's technically incomplete, as a game. But this is not just a game. I think Xenogears is a work of art made by video game industry. This game proves that it is possible to make an art as a form of a video game. Psychology, philosophy, politics, religion, love, controlling and supervision are mixed up well. The scenario and music is not the level of a game. Xenogears is likes the Symphony No.9 to me.

@superhanky2 lol, yes. Think of how great things are as a child. Then u grow up, and its not so great anymore. Also, as u grow up, u get used to all the idea's of things that are new to u. Like, u've seen it a million times before. So when u see a new thing, and its the same as something seen/done before, its ok, but not great. Also, Im older, my perspective starts from the 80's. 2bit games, to what we have today. I feel its harder for 90's kids to even enjoy a older gam, being that its so old.

I wasn't too sure what to expect of Xenogears before I played it, but by god was I blown away by it. Xenogears is easily one of the greatest RPG's ever made, and watching this video back makes me want to play it again (I only finished it a week or so ago).
Have to disagree with people who love FF7, It wasn't a good game FF6 is the best. The people who say the Story to FF7 was good is a joke, the story ended after the first disc and then it was do whatever the crap you wanted in the game. Story was pretty much over. Wasnt much story left on the 3rd disc. The 3rd disc was basically all the extra stuff. But there was deff still story on disc 2. Thats when you find out a lot more about cloud and his relation with zach and it's when you figure out what aerith was really up to and so much more. 2nd disc still had lots of story. So you can deff disagree with people thats fine. But get your facts straight. :D
this game is really awesome, i played the shit out of this game. its is one one of my favorites and yes it is a legend. but honestly no ps1 rpg could beat ff7. its not a band wagon thing and its not just because its popular or overated. if you play ff7 you will know its power. i played a lot of rpgs for the ps1 and ive been playin rpgs since final fantasy crystal chronicles or ff1. better yet i even played rpgs for the sega master system. ff7 is just bad ass but so is this game just not as good
@kingotaco I agree. I love games like Xenogears, Secret/Legend of mana, Crono cross/trigger, Legend of DRagoon, Lunar 1 and 2 etc but nothing could top FF7. People who bad mouth FF7 are haters and only bad mouth it because of how mainstream it is, most of the arguments they use are stupid anyways. FF7 is legendary, and I'd argue that its easily one of the best, if not THE best RPG ever.
@kingotaco heres my view on 7, story wise i was kinda disapointed , but the materia system and limits and everything else kept my attention plenty enough to enjoy it, ive replayed it a few times for these reasons, ive many rpgs, including ,chrono trigger, secret of mana one and two, a few of the tales games and every final fantasy exculding 13 and 11 so it isnt just a hate on 7, it brought alot to the table but cohesively as a game xenogears just blew my away with its story and combat
Yes this game is worth playing. The game is 70hrs + only because when reading you can't fast forward it, so you have to read it at the speed it appears. My best RPG on the playstation (not an FF7 fan). Great Soundtrack also. For people that are to young and never got to experience the good RPGs or the times you should play this game. RPGs pretty much don't exist today they are just first person RPGs now.
Zenogears is the most epic rpg game made for true gamers and true belivers this game made me feel like honestly anything is possible it was challenging but one day people will relize its a great game but a message . a message to show the life is hard anything can happen and love conqers all.

God, how epic this game was! To think that I approached it with an "anime is for kiddies" attitude! But it ended as one of my most rewarding gaming experience. F**k! I so miss the nineties, every game seemed to be starting a new genre back then, everything was new and beautiful!
Oh yeah, and also... The song begins to play and Bart's happy "oyyyyy"... well, let's just say that's one of the reasons why, as short as it is, this reunion scene makes me smile and go "awwww..." (Emmy's smile is also nice).

Instead of Motomu Toriyama(FF13,FF10-2) and Tetsuya Nomura, Masato Kato(scenario writing for Chrono Trigger) and Tetsuya Takahashi(scenario writing for Xenogears) should come back to FF.
Funny because I'm pretty sure that FF13 took inspiration from Xenogears... look at the endings (seriously, one guy/two girls go eternal, then the party is reunited with Fei/Elly/Serah/Satz's son... and the main song is playing) and the villain's plans, Solaris/Cocoon, linear games (come on, if Xenogears had better graphics, it would be just like Xenosaga)... it's eerily similar, it's not even funny. XG is way better than FF13 of course, but they took inspiration, I'm pretty sure.
I remembered this game for six years as I tried to play it when I was 10. Now age 16 on January the 2nd I finished it. My struggle is over and I can pride myself and say that I have played one of the best games of all time T-T. They should seriously remake it, it will out due FF any time !

Now, I'm not being an ass but actually curious - how does it rip off FFVII? I played both, albeit years ago, and I didn't notice anything like that. So far as graphics goes, it's a playstation game and had the same limitations as all the others, and FFVII looked worse for wear if you compare the two.
As a final note, blatantly stating "Anyone who enjoyed it is a moron." is a much, much larger infringement into the elitist territory than claiming someone seek therapy.
one thing would be nice, either an anime adaptation or a total remake with graphics upgrade+ fix up the story a bit + and make a better gameplay system. If they would do that for this game I would buy the series/ the new version of the game for sure.

Did you know that I bought this game alongside various other RPG's (like Fallout 3, the Lunar games and Skies of Arcadia) and I still haven't played any of them? I don't know why; I guess I was just taking a little break of RPG's. But for now, I'm basically playing FFVII (I don't know why, but I always start a new game here whenever I get sick; wierd, huh?). Maybe after this game, I'll pick this game up and see how it compares to classics like FFVII and Chrono Trigger.

The problem is that they had to rush the second disk because it wasn't a final fantasy, and wouldn't get as much fanbase. Yea this game was like the star wars of RPGs it has one of the best storylines and certainly the most complex. They put soo much detail into every character's background that you could even make a game about the side characters.
This was my first RPG game.... this game really opened my eyes to the RPG world... i really miss playing this... the battle systems are really unique, not to mentioned the story which not like other games have... ahh... those were the days...

If any game Deserves to be called epic, definitely it's Xenogears. Truly EPIC game, the best story in any RPG so far and amazing music. Dont know why its so underrated game. I honestly do not think there will ever be another game quite like Xenogears. Oh, and, 10 people have been absorbed by Deus.
If all the world leader's the world elite the banksters the politicans were to play this game and the few others that minutely begin to come close (FF7-FF10, kingdom hearts, Lunar) then im sure they're ways would change in a matter of moments. This isnt just the best squaresoft game you've played this is by far unequivickly no other game stands a chance against it the best game EVER made by ANY company at any time in any genra in anyway shape or form. Though I'm poor at English, I can't pass this without any comment. Xenogears is not flawless and it's technically incomplete, as a game. But this is not just a game. I think Xenogears is a work of art made by video game industry. This game proves that it is possible to make an art as a form of a video game. Psychology, philosophy, politics, religion, love, controlling and supervision are mixed up well. The scenario and music is not the level of a game. Xenogears is likes the Symphony No.9 to me.

I wasn't too sure what to expect of Xenogears before I played it, but by god was I blown away by it. Xenogears is easily one of the greatest RPG's ever made, and watching this video back makes me want to play it again (I only finished it a week or so ago).

Have to disagree with people who love FF7, It wasn't a good game FF6 is the best. The people who say the Story to FF7 was good is a joke, the story ended after the first disc and then it was do whatever the crap you wanted in the game. Story was pretty much over. Wasnt much story left on the 3rd disc. The 3rd disc was basically all the extra stuff. But there was deff still story on disc 2. Thats when you find out a lot more about cloud and his relation with zach and it's when you figure out what aerith was really up to and so much more. 2nd disc still had lots of story. So you can deff disagree with people thats fine. But get your facts straight. :D

this game is really awesome, i played the shit out of this game. its is one one of my favorites and yes it is a legend. but honestly no ps1 rpg could beat ff7. its not a band wagon thing and its not just because its popular or overated. if you play ff7 you will know its power. i played a lot of rpgs for the ps1 and ive been playin rpgs since final fantasy crystal chronicles or ff1. better yet i even played rpgs for the sega master system. ff7 is just bad ass but so is this game just not as good

@kingotaco I agree. I love games like Xenogears, Secret/Legend of mana, Crono cross/trigger, Legend of DRagoon, Lunar 1 and 2 etc but nothing could top FF7. People who bad mouth FF7 are haters and only bad mouth it because of how mainstream it is, most of the arguments they use are stupid anyways. FF7 is legendary, and I'd argue that its easily one of the best, if not THE best RPG ever.

@kingotaco heres my view on 7, story wise i was kinda disapointed , but the materia system and limits and everything else kept my attention plenty enough to enjoy it, ive replayed it a few times for these reasons, ive many rpgs, including ,chrono trigger, secret of mana one and two, a few of the tales games and every final fantasy exculding 13 and 11 so it isnt just a hate on 7, it brought alot to the table but cohesively as a game xenogears just blew my away with its story and combat

Yes this game is worth playing. The game is 70hrs + only because when reading you can't fast forward it, so you have to read it at the speed it appears. My best RPG on the playstation (not an FF7 fan). Great Soundtrack also. For people that are to young and never got to experience the good RPGs or the times you should play this game. RPGs pretty much don't exist today they are just first person RPGs now.

wow. i really miss this game. it makes me real mad that so many people jumped on the band wagon and said final fantasy 7 was the best rpg game ever made. this game really brings back a lot of memories. i remember going to the store with my dad to buy this game. i remember i didnt know about combos and pressed only the "x" button all the way up to fighting ID. I remember jumping up for joy when i found out about combos. haha. gonna get my kids to play this game. really was an awesome game.

Funny because I'm pretty sure that FF13 took inspiration from Xenogears... look at the endings (seriously, one guy/two girls go eternal, then the party is reunited with Fei/Elly/Serah/Satz's son... and the main song is playing) and the villain's plans, Solaris/Cocoon, linear games (come on, if Xenogears had better graphics, it would be just like Xenosaga)... it's eerily similar, it's not even funny. XG is way better than FF13 of course, but they took inspiration, I'm pretty sure.

Anyone else notice the similarities with Chrono Cross (not a coincidence, both stories are written by Masato Kato)?
The whole "Arbiter" story with Serge, and the "Contact" in Xenogears.
There's also the save points plot twist in both games, and they serve similar purposes (though more decisive in Cross).
Also both games have as main antagonists entities coming from outer space, and then keep dormant waiting for their final acts.
There's probably more stuff I didn't notice...

I remembered this game for six years as I tried to play it when I was 10. Now age 16 on January the 2nd I finished it. My struggle is over and I can pride myself and say that I have played one of the best games of all time T-T. They should seriously remake it, it will out due FF any time !

Now, I'm not being an ass but actually curious - how does it rip off FFVII? I played both, albeit years ago, and I didn't notice anything like that. So far as graphics goes, it's a playstation game and had the same limitations as all the others, and FFVII looked worse for wear if you compare the two.
As a final note, blatantly stating "Anyone who enjoyed it is a moron." is a much, much larger infringement into the elitist territory than claiming someone seek therapy.

Did you know that I bought this game alongside various other RPG's (like Fallout 3, the Lunar games and Skies of Arcadia) and I still haven't played any of them? I don't know why; I guess I was just taking a little break of RPG's. But for now, I'm basically playing FFVII (I don't know why, but I always start a new game here whenever I get sick; wierd, huh?). Maybe after this game, I'll pick this game up and see how it compares to classics like FFVII and Chrono Trigger.

The problem is that they had to rush the second disk because it wasn't a final fantasy, and wouldn't get as much fanbase. To be honest if there is a game with a story that compares, please tell me, cus right now I haven't played a single rpg that does.
