  • It all boils down to perference, like everyone says. Some people spend $200 on Dr.Dre beats, $700 on a iPhone, $150 on Nikes, $500 on Replica Masks, etc. At the end of the day it's for an indivdual to decide what they work hard for.

  • im looking into both of these as my first big ticket price knife and im askign for your opinion between the sng or the 21 also if the 21 large or small

  • @tahomazz It all boils down to personal preference, they are all great knives... if it were me right now, I would choose the SnG over the Sebby. Between the Sebs, I would go large over small.

  • great couple of vids here. i can't wait to try a Strider. thanks for sharing.

  • Great comparisons. In the end like you said it comes down to preference. Its like comparing a lambo and a ferrari. They are both luxury but its a matter of choice. Personally the Sebenzas seem plain even though the materials used are really high quality. I love the look of the Striders and they just seem more for hard use. I would use the Strider more as a tool and the Sebenza as a showpiece.

  • i dont know if i should drop the cash on one of these bad boys, cuz i dont know how i would feel about carying a 400+ dollar knife, if i lost it, i'd have to kill myself. but they're so damn COOL!. great vid btw

  • @PhillieBRidin It does seem crazy to spend so much on a knife... It's hard to describe, but people spend ridiculous sums on watches, sunglasses, cigars, fine liquor, jewelry... ect, ect. There is something to be said of the finer things, and a knife can be a useful tool and companion. There is a definite pride in ownership carrying and using a high quality tool that will last a lifetime such as one of these two...

  • @macjmillsx true, never thought of it that way, :)most i've ever spent on a knife was $137 bucks (spyderco military). i need me a strider or maybe a sebenza? which one did you get first?

  • If you baton your Sebenza, your warranty is void. Sebenza from what I am told, is very picky on what they consider abuse and may not honor your warranty . Strider has more of a no questions asked when it comes to warranty. So ultimate use and abuse, Strider backs their knives better. I think that is a very important factor in a knife you are going to use.

  • i like the sebenza better. even though i dont own one but a strider SnG. man i am so pissed ... just found rust on the blade and this thing is only 3 week old. how can s30v RUST in a dry environment in only 3 weeks?

i am SO buying a SEB. and please someone tell me how to get rid of the rust.

    MUCH APPRECIATED.

    NICE review BTW. 5*

  • @DonnieCallister S30V is a great steel, but even stainless steels can develop rust. I think it is due to the bead blasting on the blade.. I fell asleep with my Strider in hand and the heat/moisture from my grip caused a light surface rust.. get yourself some tuff glide cloths to take the rust out... I've also heard that a pencil eraser will work. After you get the rust off put some renaissance wax on to prevent rusting on the blasted surface.

  • @macjmillsx wow wait ... you fell asleep with the strider in your hand? this means A) you REALLY love your knife or B) you live in louisiana and expect to be eaten by aligators while camping in the yard :-D

thanks for the advice man! thats some really nice stuff. will try it out right away.

  • @macjmillsx Flitz or Simichrome work good for removing surface rust. I sometimes get a little around the opening holes of my SNG and SMF's. I love my Strider's, but the Sebbie is better for EDC IMHO.

  • i do like the full flat grind for cutting purposes but it makes it harder for me to sharpen it. i use the lansky stone sharpener. best sharpening system ever. takes forever to angle the blade the first time thou. makes it harder to clamp onto the blade evenly. blade wants to move

  • like you say its all down to preference if you want to use your knife get a sebenza if you want to abuse your knife get a strider. im goin with the sebenza just because of the style and i cant see myself pulling out a strider on a dressy occasion plus it just looks good striders look a little ugly but i do want to try the pt cc model with the tiger strip blade someday great vid 5*

  • Mac, it's actually allowed, and even recommended by Chris Reeve himself that you flick out the blade. He doesn't want people to flick it out with a wrist flick constantly while watching tv or something, but he says that flicking out the blade is good to set the lock, and is a fine way to open his knife. It does NOT void the warranty.

I can't decide which one I like better either haha.

  • I'm pretty much stuck on the "tacticool" knives these days, so Strider and Emerson are my fixation.

  • Yeah, my SNG ends up in my pocket more than my sebby, but I still love the knife.

  • Incredible comparison! A+

  • Thanks, this was an older vid or mine, but I think the points are still valid... I'm always learning.

  • The term "Gentlemen's Knife" referrs to a knife that is dedicated to only light use EDC tasks and nothing eilse.

  • I would say the Sebenza is every bit as tough and capable a Strider. For me at this point in my knowledge and knife collection, I would consider a gentleman's knife to be a knife that has a more refined style that you might carry with a suit or slacks, as opposed to a "tactical" looking fighting style knife... I'm always learning though! ; )

  • @macjmillsx I don't think it would be a good idea for me to walk around campus with a strider, but a sebenza would look a lot less threatening. I don't think s gentlemen's folder is so much a "style" thing so much as it is a non-threatening thing.

  • I think gentlemen's knife refers more about the looks of the knife rather than the use/purpose of the knife. for example, you can use the strider to cut boxes or even letters only, but I don't think anyone would call it gentlemen's knife.

  • @skil1977 I agree

  • would you put a convex edge on the strider?

  • yeah, I have seen other peoples Striders that they have convexed and they are slicers!!

  • I love the striping on the Striders. I have the small classic Sebanza which I love for its lightweight, everyday use.

  • Both are great knives!

  • I too want both eventually, even if just to find out what I like best, but I think I will go after the sebenza first. I am really looking for the perfect knife for me, and I think the small sebenza may be close. Right size, great cutter, great steel, durable as all hell and very attractive (would get one w/ computer graphic).

  • You can't go wrong with either one. For me I never wanted to use my Seb hard, I would have been heartbroken to get a scratch or mark on it, while the strider looks good with some wear so I was more inclined to use the heck out of it.

  • See, I fully intend to use my seb just like I would any other knife, a perfect example of how it is different for every person. But yes, I think your probably right in saying you can't go wrong with either. Like I said, i'll get the seb first, but I definatley want an SnG one day. Thanks for your vids, they help, make great entertainment too, I watched a fair few. Going to watch your ninjato review now.

  • Great vids! I definitely like the more unique look of Strider knives, but honestly I think Strider and Reeve are both overpriced, I could see paying maybe $300 for those knives, but $400 for CNC machined knives? I've seen beautiful 100% handmade knives with damascus and snakewood handles for less. But, that's just my opinion.

  • I know what you mean. There is so much hand finishing involved with these knives though, they are semi-custom production knives. Strider only water cuts the oversized blank then they mill the profile down to get their blades. The price of admission is high, but the pride in ownership is high and both these knives can be used and abused instead of sitting in a safe. Once you get one in your hand, your reaction will be: "aahhh haaaa!" ; )

  • I could see why some would feel that way. I've played with a Sabenza in a shop, and while it definitely reeked of high quality, it just didn't feel like $400 to me. Though I think it just might be that the Sebenza isn't very aesthetically pleasing to me too. I'm very drawn to Strider knives designs though, just that damn money thing again, lol

  • These days, the name has a lot to do with the price, like the Mercedes Benz badge. And cost of materials has risen. When I bought my first Seb in 2003 it was $345 now they're $385. Not much of an increase. But if you look at the ivory you're up to $500+ and then add damascus blade and you can be over $1000. So if you keep it basic they're affordable and worth it I think. Add the micarta inlays and you're up to $455, and that's about the starting price for a SnG. Advantage, Sebenza.

  • i just got the umnumzaan. imo, it beats both, since its got both the attention to detail of a sebenza and the ruggedness of a strider... oh, and i do own all 3 of them, so im not just trying to defend my purchase..

  • I love the umnum, but I don't want to beat it because I don't like the marks that show on the bead blast handle. Striders look better with wear in my opinion.

  • were did you get your strider and sebenza im having a hard time finding a new strider seems like there always sold out of the one i want

  • I will PM you with the details, this thing wont post my comment if I have a website referenced in it.

  • Cool thanks love your reviews you have an excellent candor about these great knives i not sure if thats the right word but another words i like the way you talk lol i also subbed to your nice channel.

  • Thanks so much! Means alot

  • Sebenza vs Bradley Alias would work better, they are similar.

Strider is another kind of knife, I don't say it's better, but different.

It doesn't feel right to say Sebenza or Strider is better than a Spyderco, Benchmade or Emerson, it's all about everyone's taste.

For me, SNG is my dream knife but i'm sure I'll get bored with it and want another.

    Steel virus rocks.

    Cheers!

  • I agree! I especially think that Spyderco makes some very high value knives. But in comparing high end semi-custom production knives the SnG and the Sebenza are at a comparable price point and therefore are often compared... "If I'm gonna spend $400+ which do I get?" Youtuber Nutnfancy has a great review on the Alias if you haven't seen it already. I would also love to see Sebenza vs Alias, but I don't own an Alias... Oh well, another knife on the "to buy" list!

  • i understand paying more for quality, it's worth it. sebenza is damn good.

bradley is good but i don't think it cuts as well as Sebenza, the blade shape is not as good; also i had to put bigger washers on it and some glue to keep the screw in place.

  • Man I just got my Small Sebenza and now I want an SnG...THANKS ALOT! :)

  • HAHAHA! Then once you get your SnG you'll be online looking at SMF's! It's a slippery slope!! But at least we are not alone in the world.

  • I will say the SnG would be as large as I would go it's actually a bit bigger than I would carry, but it's just too cool. Does Strider make a smaller knife than the SnG?

  • They sure do, it's called the PT. The SnG really isn't that big though, it's considered by many to be the "perfect" edc. The SMF is definitely a monster though.

  • Wow...that PT goes WAAAY down in price compared to the SnG.....guess cuz it's mainly G10? You selling any of your Striders?

  • The PT is the same tank like tough quality as any Strider but it is much smaller, hence the lower price point.

My Striders/Sebenzas were grails and if I sold/traded them they would be tough to re acquire so I don't foresee giving them up.

  • holy crap the sebenza cost alot , lol i understand its durable and last a long time but man iv nener seen a knife that cost that much, allsome knive

  • Yeah, the Sebenza and the Strider are both in the $400+ price range. Pretty hard to justify, but if you enjoy and appreciate knives then it makes sense. It just depends on what your in to... some people can spend that on shoes, golf clubs, fishing poles ect ect whatever... these knives will last for generations.

  • great vid, I'm currently looking to get one of those two as well and I'm leaning towards the Sebenza more.

I was pretty sure about getting a Strider until I heard of some of the fit and finish problems in a couple videos. I wouldn't mind it having some marks from manufacturing, but for such an expensive knife I would expect it to be 100% solid when open.

Is it quite noticeable or not even a concern?

  • aside from the tool marks, the lockup and operation of the knife are flawless. that is from my experience with the one I own at least. if for some reason it wasn't perfect rest assured strider would do right by you. you just have to invision which you see yourself carrying.... both are great in their own way

  • two fantastic blades.. great comparison man very well done..

  • thanks! appreciate it

  • The newer offerings from strider come with stone washed blades and thinner handles. Less tactical, but a smarter move from strider, since not everyone is in the military. To tell you the truth I don't really have a preference, but I do get annoyed when people say that a large Sebenza can't handle whatever an SnG can. Neither are perfect and we have to sacrifice, not only our money, but a preference. I do recommend re-profiling though, an inclusive 30 degrees should give you a better cutter.

  • great comparison, I fidn the sebenza to be the best folder to take to a weddign or to the office or an ideal EDC, but I se the strider the folde to grab in the woods or liek you said as a military style folder...they are both EXTREMELY nice and the very best as far as production goes, but they do serve different purposes in ym opinion, they both win in their own catagories...

  • Those two knives are very high quality tools with a high price, but I think that they are for different people (strider is a tactical folder for a hard work) and the Sebenza is something like a Gentlemans knife... but of course you can use it as a tactical or EDC knife. But for me ist a sunday knife :-)

  • You hit the nail on the head!

  • good view. Made me get some of the feel without having to order them.

btw- Do you have a personal view on the Bradly Alias ?

I could envision it would do quite well after some break-in. Blade shape on the Sebenza however is really stunning! That is what keeps me want to get one those, without even having had one in my hands

  • Personally I have no experience with the Bradley Alias, but nutnfancy here on youtube has an awesome review on the Alias. If you have never seen his vids he is very straight up and objective. He said the Alias is every bit as good as a Sebenza at a fraction of a cost.

  • to put it in a nutnshell, I´m a fan of his.

I think he refers to performance data. I have seen a closeup direct comparison with high-resolution pics and they show the sebenza has some advantages, like more contact of the liner(frame) with the blade and better, more convincing exclusive design. The Ferrari / Corvette comparison of his is stunning!

  • These few small details make people with money to spare get the Sebenza.

I like the more the look of Bradley, I carry it and man that's a sweet knife. The frame-lock, washers, nuts, handle, finish are great.

  • tactical dont you mean SCARY !!

  • Yeah, there is a certain intimidation factor in that rough and tough tactical look.
