Hydrogen cars require to many resources to build. The high pressure fuel tanks and the act of removing hydrogen from water requires some sort of fuel to make the fuel. And it is not an easy fuel to make. The future as I see it will probably be some sort of bio mass like vegitable oil.

An Electric Vhicle is still a better option. There is a xonversion Kit that fits right into many Volkswagon Cars, that even re-uses the same engine-mount bolts. EV Clubs will help you get yours...and you'll never have to buy gas or diesel again.

Many other cars and trucks can be converted to 100% Electric too. Just a few batteries makes an NEV, which handles local driving just fine.
