@metalboostable The sugar is sucrose which is C12H22O11 When the sulfuric acid is added, the water evaporates and I believe Sulfur gas in addition to water vapour leaves. This leaves you with Carbon. Carbon is black.

You already have some! Its in your car! Car batteries are made with sulfuric acid, go to a junk yard, pour a bunch of acid out of the batteries you find, boil it down until you see white fumes, then let it cool down, filter out the lead and other impurities, and you should have fairly pure S2HO4 ^.^

yes, because using plain sugar (grainy kind) would mean that the acid would have to break it down first, then dehydrate it, using powdered sugar, it doesnt have to break it down so it can go right into the dehydration

Where did HCl come from? there was no Cl- ion present in the sugar or H2SO4! small quantities of H2SO4.(H2O)x can be found however. the fume is water vapour mainly, but also H2SO4 and SO2 and O2 depending in temp. :>

To sucrose ( which is ur common kitchen sugar). This dehydrates the sugar, removing 11 molecules of water from every molecule of sugar and it leaven only the carbon behind, which is the black mass that you see. Hope this helped :)
