If you see the first of the video, Fetisov was already knocked out by the cross-check to the head. Clark should have been given a game for that, in reverse it would be certain. If you see the first of the video, Fetisov was already knocked out by the cross-check to the head. Clark should have been given a game for that, in reverse it would be certain. Although I too believe Clark was a good player, he was branded with the same mission most N/A players r branded with. That is..."Kill a Commie",..."NO-Charge"!!!
The NHL is selling to N/A & they use every tool they posess. & that's A league full of "Goons", all on a similar mission & "Fake Officials" to rubber stamp it.

To be fair, Fetisov was a pretty tough fellow in his own right. However, yes, he took out more than a few knees as well. I'm sure he was entirely aware of the payback he could sometimes receive... so this was fair.

best ever might be a bit strong...but he played three roles with this club. not too many players can say that anymore. what cracks me up is that Clark had 34G and 200PIM's in his rookie season...imagine if he spent more time on the ice than in the penalty box....but i wouldn't have had it any other way.....

Can you imagine if rather than Wendel getting traded, Sundin got traded for some North American players and Toronto followed this pattern? What people forget is that this was the last game Wendel played in months... that cheap shot by Fetisov at centre ice(he had Wendel lined up for a hit and bent down and went after Wendel's knee)tore the ligaments in his knee. But Wendel didn't go down, stayed on the ice - with TORN LIGAMENTS - and dropped Fetisov with one punch. Fetisov, by the way, took boxing lessons to be able to fight Wendel - since Wendel kept mopping the floor with him - and still got dropped with one punch.

Not a Leaf fan.Don't have "a team" in fact.Seems a little juvenile past the age of, say...17 or so. It doesn't prevent me from appreciating what Gainey and Carbonneau have done in Montreal,though. (When everyone was whining about them not making a big move in the off season.I figured Gainey's pretty smart),or respecting the all around skill level of a player like Clark,or enjoy watching a guy getting his come uppins on a play like this.Pop goes the weasle, I'd say. Not even in the slightest... It's been known, understood, and written about. Slava was an incredible defensman with very offensive skills... He could sick handle and puck handle to the point of making the NHL's best feel embarrased. Russians are the most incredible hockey players...they don't resort to cheap shots...they just play the puck like none other. Just look at the Russian 5, or even Pavel Datsyuk. However, the Swedes sure are making a name for themselves in the new "kinder-gentler NHL".

Wendel missed the rest of the season with torn knee ligaments. Kovalev went after Mark Hunter's knee, ruining his career. Just because Europeans don't fight doesn't mean they aren't dirty. Hossa ended Gord Murphy's and ruined Bryan Berard's career. Samuelsson ended the careers of Neeley and Mondou. Thomas Sandstrom.........

I never said Clark wasn't at least somewhat dirty. But Clark's dirty play was always linked to legal confrontations, such as fighting or checking. You can never condone the purposeful use of a stick to the face.

Yeah, because when Detroit got Clark, they did the same thing to him that they do with all worthless hockey players (Clark, Ulf Samelsson, Bertuzzi). We made him look decent, then used him for a bargaining chip for someone worth a fuck. Look how long Wendel, Ulf, and Todd played for Detroit. For anyone saying that this was a cheapshot by Clark, pause the video at 1:02 and tell me that Fetisov wasn't VERY low and trying to take out Wendel's knee. He's almost on all fours at the point of impact and then falls right down on his face. Typical Russian/European defenceman. Sorry, but if you know anything about hockey (or if you come from Russia or Europe) that is not a clean hipcheck attempt. Clark just gave it back to him...and he sure didn't miss. Beautiful!

Fetisov's makes one (1) attempt to nail Clark and he gets called a pussy, while Clark started this by taking too many cheap shots at Fetisov to count. Numerous times Clark took runs at Fetisov for no reason other than Harold Ballard told him we could win the cold war through hockey. How come Soviet players were called wimps if they didn't defend themselves and when they did we were all over them for it? We've conveniently set it up so they couldn't win.
