Dont be a tight-ass ! How much would some smaller food be ?...like 5 dollars ! The fish dont patiently wait 10 minutes for it to get soft, !... they will try and scoff it down as fast as they can. TRUST ME !....they will damage and even break their jaws, trust me i've seen happen !

you never know the quality of a fish at that age. you can see withc fish has potential but there just isnt a way to know how the colors and spots will react when they get bigger!!!!!

i have a koi pond and i only get about 5 to 9 baby koi each year i want to seperate the large fish but not shure wich ones are giveing egs how do i find the right ones so can have eggs / fry in another large tank to raise alone with the goal of of haveing more koi survive .can you advise me what to do

Hi there

first i have no filter in these pond .

second you have to put something like brosh to make chance for the koi to spawn on it, and give more chance to fry to servive. also you have to feed your koi before the witer with good food like natural one for example shrimp.

and the koi that have eggs you can recognize it from there stomach it will be more large than the other.

Hi there

I am not keeping my pond with specific temp. because they will not spawn if you fix the temp. they should get a low temp below the 10 C throuwgh the winter, after rising of the temp for 15 days they will begin to spawning. befor the winter you have to feed them well with good natural food like shrimp or Pupa silk worm.

and if you want to make a pond in your garden, with high quality Koi there are certain way to buil a pond.

they will eat it slowly untill they finesh the large pellet because the pellet will be soft in the water.

yes but if u leave the pellets too long in the water they will create ammonia which kill ur fish

this pond is around the 7000 gallons only water lilys and grssn water and every time i measure the ammonia i see it in the zero level :)

yeh the ammonia gets into the water no matter if the fish eat the food or the pellets sink to the bottom and don't get eaten.
