  • people make so much talk over bjarnne riis and his attacks on hautacam..i think delgado here was even more inpsiring and powerful...

  • I just couldn't help myself, that music, well, I just had to get up and dance.

  • awesome video and great music!

  • but did delgado think to rejoint race leader Cubino with is attack on last 500 mt of Tourmalet ??? :-D

  • ma come facevano a pedalare in salita con telai cosi arretrati? stento a crederci..

  • Despite what commentator Liggett predicted about Cubino, that was as good as it got for him. Never heard from him again, and I still remember the part at the end where Hampsten had to beat back the spectator

  • first song is fantastic, like all video of course

  • its good to see people having respect for eachother..one reason why i love cycling..there are rivalries of course...but stil.

  • Que grande eres Pedro¡¡¡¡

  • @banegagol perico delgado salio dopado .Verlo de nuevo ahora pierde toda la gloria no? O te gusta seguir siendo enganhado

  • Perico el mejor escalador de la historia

  • @banegagol perico delgado salio dopado .Verlo de nuevo ahora pierde toda la gloria no? O te gusta seguir siendo enganhado

  • Can somebody please tell me what is the name/author of the 1st song in this video, thanks

  • I'm pretty sure this is John Tesh - you could probably find it on his album which is surprisingly called Tour de France 1988!

  • Yeah, it John Tesh, he did backing soundtracks for several Tours and one day races, think the Paris Roubaix.... hmm I want to say 1984-85... he loved his synths, he is a keyboard player of some renown. dunno what he's doing now, but... interesting he did soundtrack albums, kind of like bread minus the filling.. no video, the tunes would probably seem a bit lost..

  • @force600 John Tesh. I actually have the cassette tape. The album is call Tour de France. It has a lot of songs from when he did the music for CBS. Good luck finding it! It's great music to ride to.

  • @acbluestone I got the cd off eBay a couple of years ago after doing a search!

  • @Cezarexxx TU SI QUE ESTAS DOPAO¡¡¡ PAYASSO¡¡¡

  • I wonder if Delgado still has nightmares about turning up for the prologue late then blowing in the team time trial. The silly billy.

  • Who is the silly billy, it's me as that was the 89 tour. I'm a daft twat.

  • ahh....it was 21 years ago mate....still remember it like yesterday..

  • I too love this footage.

All of the music can be found on

John Tesh: Music from the Tour de France

John Tesh: Tour de France- the Early Years

    Yanni- Keys to Imagination

    Yanni- Chameleon Days

Geoff Downes: The Light Program (tracks 1,2,3,12)

  • Señores, qué pedazo demarraje de Perico !!! Eso si que nos hizo vibrar

  • Madre mia, vaya velocidad bajaba Perico, y sin casco. Ahora lo llevan hasta para subir.

  • Matteomjb, indurain (1991-1995)

  • Twenty years latter I still train to this, I have it on cassette. Does anyone know how to transfer cassette to CD is it possible.86,87,88 tour coverage will never be matched. It never grows old. Same with Roubaix coverage of those years. Does anyone know anything about the music they used for NBC coverage of the 1990 worlds there is Tesh and Yanni but I am trying to figure out the piece the last time up the climb when Rudy and Dirk drop Madiot.

  • if you look on amazon, you may be able to get them on dvd

  • You can buy the CD for not much money.

My question is: who music is playing during the Luz Ardiden climb? It sounds like Tesh but it's not on his TDF album.

  • It's Tesh but if i am correct i think it is on his Garden City album. I have not been able to locate it on CD but have it on tape from when it was released

  • totally agree with your comment. 86,87,88 would never be matched!

  • for more music from the cbs tour coverage, check out John Tesh and yanni.

  • Geoffrey Downes the light program is that who it is?

i checked amazon music and ebay and i can only find it on vynyl records...any one have any other ideas?

    D

  • this is sad for me to watch..

i was 15 and watched this on tv..back then cycling was so differnt than now..im 34 now i took up cycling in 1983..its hard to watch it now..I really miss it, i would go so far to say i miss it so much it hurts..

  • the second song of this video is in the geofrey downes album titleholder THE LIGHT PROGRAM , in the single SIMPHONIE ELECTRONIQUE of 15 minutes, that is subdivided in the following songs :

    1 Symphonie Electronique/Prophecy (3: 44)

    2 Symphonie Electronique/Mountain (1: 16)

    3 Symphonie Electronique/Majesty (3: 12)

    4 Symphonie Electronique/Softly (3: 12)

    5 Symphonie Electronique/Funkratl (1: 24)

    6 Symphonie Electronique/Megalyth (1: 58

    1 Symphonie Electronique / Prophecy (3:44)

    2 Symphonie Electronique / Mountain (1:16)

    3 Symphonie Electronique / Majesty (3:12)

    4 Symphonie Electronique / Softly (3:12)

    5 Symphonie Electronique / Funkratl (1:24)

    6 Symphonie Electronique / Megalyth (1:58

  • As a young junior cyclist I used to train for hours to the entire 1987 and 1988 TDF covereage (downladed to my walkman!) and i'd like to get it on IPOD now. Perico!!!! Best of luck

  • Not sure if the song in question is from 'The Light Program". You can listen to snippets of each song at: emusic. They only give you 30 seconds and the songs are 14 minutes each. The only track I see progressing to any song on this video is Track4 (East West). if anybody does figure this out, A LOT of cycling fans would appreciate it.

  • 1990 Indurain Lemond??

  • Just got word that the second song in this clip is from Geoff Downes' solo work "The Light Program" from 1986. This album lists 5 songs on his website, so take yer pick ;o)

  • That's a great cadence on that song--perfect for climbing innit? I have the CDs of every song from those TdF days that I could remember, but someone mentioned a third musician (besides Yanni and John Tesh). I'll have to look into that.

  • Damn...I still remember that little 'tug' that it appears DelGado gives to Alcala during the climb, about 30 or so seconds in.

  • You can see me in the crowd on this video, at 2:08 on the right wearing a yellow jersey and white hat, taking a photo.

  • Awesome summer I spent in Almeria in '88, watching the tour in our old b/w tv and letting hours pass reading news reports and thinking on the next stage. Happy times.

  • yo tambien estaba en almeria jejejeje

  • Jeje. Avda Cabo de Gata, por casualidad? Igual incluso jugamos en la playa. Yo tenía 9 años.

  • dioooo quien eres tio??

avda cabo de gata numero 1!!!!!!!

    yo tenia 6 anios!!

  • Awesome video!!! Can I ask something? Where you got it?

  • laudelino cubino winning the stage!!! I was 6 and i remember

  • They also used a little Yanni in those days.

  • The first song is by John Tesh, the second song is actually by Geoffrey Downes, who released on an album in 1988

  • I really want that music played during the Luz Ardiden climb! I have a couple of John Tesh's Tour De France alubms, but that piece isn't in it! That piece of music is by far my favorite cycling music; it has alot of high and low emotions

  • I've always wondered myself. NBC used this track for Lauritzen's final attack in the 1990 Worlds.
