@coldbluerain The fact that it and Peace didn't chart just show that the "music" industry wouldn't know good music if it smacked them with a microphone.
it's funny you see her eat sushi. last time i spotted her in london (last year) was at a sushi restaurant. she must really like sushi then. :) and by the way she looked AMAZING when I saw her, last year.
God...this album is so fucken good, complety written off by all the cirtics as not being commercial enough? who cares!! one of my all time favorite albums by them and i love this song Miss Annie looks so gorgeous!!! Thank god i still have the c.d. from 20 years ago and the savage video album on vhs....thank god!!!!
@coldbluerain To me this has been their best, and i think its Annie's favourite if i'm not wrong, i just love this album, its misterious, sexy, original, exquisite and a total work of art! so different to the rest!
Savage was a very good cd, just a little more experimental and less commercial than Revenge. Trying to be commercial all the time makes artists rather boring.
Very cool and brave of the Eurythmics to hold back on lyrical content and just go for pure mood! "That's right"! This song is really just smooth and pure.... just what you need! lol
Savage is one of the best albums of the last couple of decades - ahead of its time - Annie Lennox is genius in the way Bowie was in the 70's - ahead of thier times.
if you can get a copy of the "savage" video album, have a look at the whole album. i had it on vhs & it's since gone out of print, but i transferred it to dvd & showed it at a party a few wks. ago & everyone was in awe. this character & the various other females in it are interconnected at times, perhaps as splits of the same personality. i think it's open to interpretation, so have a guess & you're probably right based on your own interpretation. i'd also say yes to the marilyn reference.
I do think she played off Marilyn. I think this character has a connection to the DIVA theme as well. It seems to be something Annie has a lot to say about...
Do you think the goal for her costume was to look like Marilyn, in a way? Not a flippant question, just asking honestly what everyone's opinion is. :)
I've always thought that the look she was going for was sort of more female than female - over the top. I guess in a way that is what Marilyn Monroe was. I think she looks like a woman pretending to be a man in drag - and I think she looks HAWT.
I love the Savage album it's such a melting pot of all musical styles and this is one of my favs songs such a journey through a simple song never knew there was a video for this glad I got to see it.
I love both this song and this video for its simplicity. The song isn't underdone or over done, it's perfect! The video is great! Annie sipping her drink, eating take out, playing with a lamp, and being driving through I assume Los Angeles... Heaven!
This song might be simple on the lyrics but to me it seems like it's about a drug abuse... actually about side effects - a pure, groovy hallucination sequence... just what you need :) talk about spooky...
thank you SO SO SO much for posting this! i had the SAVAGE video collection on VHS back in the 80s and have looked for it on DVD, to no avail. this is great to see. :-)
This video and song are fucking brilliant. The imagery, the character, the song, the lamp flickering on a night the character comes back to her hotel after a night of wreckless abandon... genius. Sophie Muller is genius. Annie's commitment to the character is truly inspiring. They had something so magical together. Annie and Sophie need to team up again for another video... PLEASE! The SAVAGE album is their master work.
I love, love, love this image/character. I soo wanted to be her back in the day! Lol. Thanks for posting these. It's a travesty they haven't released the Savage videos on DVD.
This album is also my favourite, used to play on repeat in my walkman..

Speaking of now, this audio/video moment can very well be perceived as a certain "Amy Winehouse" situation.

@antunivanovic Nope, I still perceive it as a Norma Jean "situation".

I think that's totally it. A friend pointed out to me years ago that she was playing a man in drag. It's probably most obvious in I Need a Man.
