COOL! Which one did you prefer? Iprefer night vision, but like you said, if someone shines a light your way you could be blinded. Another good video, thanks.
@danzak44 I've used both extensively and in my opinion thermal imaging systems (TIS) are much more versatile. What they are referring to as “night vision” relies on ambient light such as, moonlight, starlight or infrared. Infrared is not a heat source as described in the video, it is light that is invisible to the naked eye. TIS Can be used day or night and you can see through smoke, fog or even walls. They are both used in the military and both work well for their respective uses.
@EnabledShooter Thank you for the information, but I already knew that. I'm retired Army. I was just wondering what he prefered. I think I prefer the night vision only because that is what I'm used to. Thanks again.
@12gaugebleachdrinker its a trade off. With thermal you cant ID your target, and unless your allies stay at arms reach, you have a high chance of hitting them. Additionally there are two periods in the day, varying in the climate you live in, where the human body signature completely blends in with the environment. Not to mention that thermal is horrible while navigating through brush or looking for a non-living object.
@ELITEHAMSTER123 I can see how similar heat signatures in a hot climate that is at 98.6*, yeah seeing bodies would not be very helpful. But, how often do you need to use thermal or even night vision during the daytime? I only think thermal is more useful because it allows you to see something, heat/infrared, that you otherwise cannot see.
theyre both awsome i think it depends on what theyre being used for and the enviroment. sniper hunting thermal is a good choice, driving without headlights, nightvision would be better.
Yes, glass is IR reflective, effectively working like a mirror to thermal imaging. You can feel this on a hot day, feeling direct sunlight, and sunlight through the glass.
@0:28 gunwebsites ride is a FORD CVPI police interceptor ! nice ride ,would be cool if you ever get the "NOPTIC" spotlight for it,thats sick but costly
@GunWebsites no , not just a LED spotlight ,but its a night vision spotlight that is real powerful , its $2000~5000 pricetag is steep though , it is mil grade based on a unity spotlight for LE use.
@skaterjerk9 NOPE ..you can get that gear for way less , you just need contacts in the military..we got these but didnt even pay that much ..like 250.00 a pc
I can definitely see how Thermal would have some great uses, especially in a tactical situation but I think overall Night Vision is more versitile for use at night and better preserves your vision if u had to make a transition back to no optics
Very cool stuff, man. I keep going back and forth on whether or not to buy a certain thermal weapon optic (that's also helmet mountable) for the past year now. It's such a HUGE commitment for possibly limited applications (for me personally). There's just so many other things I could buy for the $8K the damn thing costs, and I'd also have to sell shit to come close to being able to afford it. Decisions...
this one came along and was just too good to pass up.. but I know EXACTLY what you mean, these are not bought on a whim .. at least not at my level, LOL
so is there a way to get NV that is kinda a thermal hybrid? like everything would look all night visiony then things that are above a certain temperature would have that white glow.
It's interesting to see how the thermal scope can't see through glass surfaces. I wonder would you still get a signature from someone seated in a car with the window rolled up, or would it just reflect back?
can you test the theory of using a green or red strobe with that nightvision setup? Just curious if a strobe will blind the person wearing the nightvision
@PrepareYourself2010 Strobes are usually mounted on the back of the helmet to avoid blinding the user. Wether you use a green or red strobe doesn't matter when observing it through the night vision.. It shows all colours as white.
Next step in nightvision is a device that combines both image intensifiers and thermal vision. Both have their upsides and limitations, take the best of both worlds and we have a winner:
It´s called AN/PSQ-20 and it´s in use with special forces and the 10th mountain division.
@GunWebsites try and get a nice pair of thermals your going to pay 15,000 plus they dont want us to have it! amazon has some nice setups for 15,000 to 20,000 thousand lol
which one provides better battery life? which one costs more?
