Contrary to popular opinion, I consider this album Dream Theater's best by far (followed by 'Images And Words'). The lead vocals by Charlie Dominici imho are superior to those by James LaBrie, as is the songwriting. A.o. 'Fortune In Lies', 'Status Seeker', 'Light Fuse And Get Away' and 'Only A Matter Of Time' are all instant classics. The only drawback is the production values are not up to their usual level.

I enjoyed this album as well, but calling it Dream Theater's 'best' is a bit much. The production values were horrible, the band hadn't found their style yet, and while Dominici is a stellar singer, I will never believe he was a good fit for the band. LaBrie gets a lot of flack for whatever reasons, but Dominici's voice gave the band entirely the wrong atmosphere, imo.

So yes, great album... but it can't hold a candle to Images & Words, Awake, Scenes or 6 Degrees.

Charlie reminds me of Midnight from Crimson Glory.....Listening back now it's not nearly as bad as I remember, actually quite good, the production, however is worse than I remember. Cool song though.
