I was at this show - we spent days upon days bombing across the states to get to California on time. What a wonderful and magical time in my life. I will never regret the moments I spent on tour.
I had a (rather useless) thought while listening to this: what if someone else was experiencing a different point in time than where I am? (Think of worlds branching off for each person).
And then if I am "behind" someone else in this, i.e. they are experiencing the future (from my perspective, present from their), and my actions were already done in their world? My life was a dream--dreamed by someone else.

I remember an interview I read about Jerry... He was talking about this song, and saying how he had sung it for 20 years thinking he knew what it was about... But, then realizing it meant something entirely different. I'll *always* wonder what he meant by that....
i too was at this show. I think... was this the show when ken kesey spoke at the intro? I remember not being able to understand a word he said but the show was memorable. This song a highlight for me!!
@tapeatsbill loved this show I was only 17 and about 800 miles from home staying in the motel 6 just past that dennys that was always filled whith heads boy those were intense shows, alott of kids went to jail at those shows, but other than that it was a magical time in my life that was the begining of my full time touring binge till jerry died .... man that song will just rip your heart out your chest ..
I usually would never post such a long comment, but when this song came on i just about burst from all the bottled up feelings I don't ever dare trying to put into words. Jerry, to me you are the most beautiful soul the universe ever consisted of. The best friend I never can have -- my broken guardian angel, singing from the heart as well as his guitar. When I had no wings to fly, you flew to me. Forever grateful, Matthew
My mom was a deadhead in her college days up until about the time of my birth. I grew up listening to and loving the Dead. I grew apart from it briefly but over the past few years they have become my source of joy -- the love to see me through. This version is one of those ones that has my heart imploding. I wish I could say I miss him. how silly is that? Im spared knowing what its like to have lost him, but it hurts so much knowing Im not lucky enough to know what I'm missing. >>
I put my little brother on the bus off to kindergarten every morning enviously, hoping for a chance to live vicariously through him. That path to memory lane will get overgrown eventually, and its happening all too fast. Hes recently learned the answer to that life changing question, mommy, does every body die someday?. At times Jerrys voice, and the notes he plays are the only things that makes me feel okay about that wheel that keeps turning, and cant be slowed down. >>
I cried for the first time in years, listening to this song on my birthday morning. Teared up from the start: "All the years combine, they melt into a dream. A broken angel sings from a guitar. . .through all the broken dreams and vanished years. Stella Blue". Damn near drowned by the last verse. I'm 19 now, in college, in the process of resisting having my spirits crushed. >>
Some of the comments left here were so beautiful that I felt I was a part of something so much bigger than I had allowed myself to remember. My heart starting aching the day we lost Jerry and I it has not eased with time. I don't even want it to.
man, what a kick ass version of this song, Jerry is on fire! What an awesome collection of musicians to back the greatest, most versatile musician of all time. We love you Jerry!!
it's so true. i only saw a few shows, mostly towards the end of it all and sometimes they were on fire and sometimes they had 'days in between' but that somehow just made the whole thing seem that much more human and real. the gesture. the reaching across the space between us. magic.
I'm moving and just ran across my Dead ticket stubs and I have the stubs for this show and 12-27-90 Sharing my memories with my 23 old son. WOW I miss you Jerry
I remember the exact moment I became a Dead Head was in 1971. This gorgeous girl friend of my older sister took me aside one day and said, "I got you a present." She handed me American Beauty and said these exact words, "I know you will become a dead head cause you will love this."
We sat down smoked a jay and gave it a listen. Fell in love twice that day.
Peace on ya my friends and the future is going to be so sweet!
My band is trying to build a following like The Grateful Dead had and still have. I just wished we could get some deadheads out to see us live! I'm sure if they could get a taste of our live shows they would all dig it!
Still my favorite Jerry song. Dead shows were the only place I ever felt comfortable dancing. I miss the band, but I also miss the deadhead nation. Love is real and Not Fade Away!

The French have a word. Chantepluer. Literally it means crying while singing or singing through your tears.
This song almost makes me cry every time I hear it. Makes me just want to hold on to someone I care about.
Life for me, is all about the feeling and this song does it in spades.
Peace on ya'll.
