  • you can do anything to any engine...it just takes time, money (lots) and effort...oh and more money. you can install one turbo per cylinder! theres nothing you CAN't do....well...good luck fitting four turbos IN the engine compartment of a I-4, and getting oil to them, and the manifold, and the blow off valve, and probably a computer to run it all so it doesnt turn into a giant frag grenade...oh yeah...and more money.

  • wow eclipse do that all the time if you don't tune it right!! that happened to me when i put twin turbo inside it and a airflow system with a few other things and it literally stalled on me so i bought a acura RSX and holy shit that car can hold up all the way!!! i put everything that was in my eclipse into the acura except for the airflow and turbo because thats how it broke down gave too much power to the cams and broke the turbo. burnt the airflow tooLOL

  • ok not to sound a dick or anythign but why would you twin turbo the eclipse? They were designed for one turbo and one turbo only. Was there any engine work done do it besides the extra un-needed turbo, and an airflow system? The 4G63 can handle alot of PSI off of one turbo. its not just tuning the ECU and adjusting the cams. the engine needs alot of work to handle that power. gonna add new pistons why not just rebuild the whole head and block for performance. saves future headaches. SAVES MONEY!

  • well when i bought the eclipse it was a 1999 so i asked the guy if there was any problems with it and he had told me that the cams needed a little fix so i fixed them but later on i decided to put a twin turbo so i replaced the pistons and the cams and so i have heard that sometimes eclipse can hold some things but you have to put so much money into it which is why i didnt bother buying a whole new engine system so i replaced the cams and pistons but after a while it stalled.

  • they can yeah you'll just need to run low boost. if you want a higher set up then yeah replace your pistons, but you also have to replace the rods,valves,springs and spring retainers. cams alone cant hold the power. In my personal opinion not worth trying to run a twin setup.run 10 pounds with a stock turbo rather then 5 from two. just upgrade the turbo to a 16g. they can easily handle up to 400hp

  • i didnt really give a shit about that car anyway it was gay, it was givin by my uncle but he hates the car too thats why im sticking with my acura RSX till further future changes. the eclipse is burnt up anyway, went in flames. i didnt really have to change the RSX engine all i had to do was change the pistons, the piston rings, the valves, i took it to a place where they dyno it and show how much weight and pressure it does to the car and what i needed to change.

  • their easy to fix but oh well. I know a full build for one of them to. good stuff. really, Just hit up Skunk Racing. all sorts of stuff for the Integra and RSX.

  • Lol you obviously know nothing about cars.

    Certain parts of the drive-train might disagree if you try changing something that's why you do up the car appropriately and perform dyno tunes and stuff to make sure everything is alright and you get a perfect smooth curve so everything is proportional.

    Anyway there is no challenge in getting a big block and making it go fast, otherwise you won't be able to say.... "My ECLIPSE is fast as"... because it technically wouldn't be.

  • Actually it is possible, just completely retarded. The turbo lag would be incredible and over all not worth it. I was thinking of putting a twin turbo on a DSM just for shits a giggles, but the time, money and effort would far surpass any rewards from the build. Placing both turbos in a stable place, getting oil to both of them and designing the turbo manifold alone will take god knows how many hours to do on a 4cyl lol.

  • It is possible and i myself know of a guy who did it, BUT there are so many ricers out there that think that they know what there that some of us have to correct them, like what are the possibilities of seeing a twin turbo 4-cyl? maybe 1 in a million, and that is not exageration.

  • Yeah, they're extremely rare and just a waste of time. People do it just for the hell of it, those who perform this build soon learn that there are no rewards from it, except the bragging rights for saying you have one of the very few 4-cylinder twin turbos in the world.

    Do a basic 5 second search on youtube: Nissan Pulsar GTI-R @ PMD

    Do an image search for twin turbo 4-cylinder.

    Also, there are THOUSANDS of twin turbo il4's (that's inline-4's) out there, just search.

    But if you're a fan of DSM's and I assume you own a GSX, then you would to have to have seen at least 1 twin turbo 4g63 (that's the motor that came in the GVR-4, GSX, TSi and some Lasers) or maybe a 4B11.

  • Yes but from the factory how many twin turbo cars exist? There MIGHT be thousands of twin turbo 4-cyl cars but compare that to the number of 4-cyl cars equipped with just one, big difference. I myself know of one DSM that is compound turbocharged. Even then its pointless to make a 4-cyl pointless.

  • no the eclipses have the 420a dohc which was originally in the neons.. so those two shared the same motors throughout the first gen.

  • I don't know why some people who comment here are soo blind. this is not a jap motor. it's a 420a engine from Chrysler. from 95 to 99 most of eclipse comes with the 420a Chrysler engine and some comes with the Japanese 4G63 turbo engine especially the GST and the GSX. this is why the 420a engine had dentonate do your research before you post any of you're half mind stupid comment.

  • thats not true. that motor is the 420a motor. thats a Chrysler motor. the real jap motors that come in this car (4g63) are far better than the 420a. plus they come wih a turbo. dont get me wrong the 420a is not a bad motor if you know what your doing. my 420a will stomp and stock 4g63. i rebuilt it over this past winter. went from a 2.0 to a 2.3 stroker. i love it now :-)

    These adjectives are not synonomyous(sp?) with Mitsubishi.

  • i agree with you about that. honda does make a good motor. they are slow. but strong motors. i few of my buddys around here have del sols with over 200k miles on them and they still run strong. but all of them who have raced me when my 420a was stock and will admin that the eclipse motor is deff faster. i dont thing enough credit is given to the 420a motors. ya stock they are junk but built up them things are very good engines

  • Slow? Depends on the Honda. If you have a CRX with a B16A, it will be more than a match for any stock eclipse. And if you want to race modded cars? The CRX is at LEAST 800lbs. lighter than a pre-99 Eclipse. Power to weight ratio is not just about power.

    That is something the muscle cars guys still don't understand, even after 40 years.

    I will admit the 98-and earlier Eclipse was one very good-looking car. But reliable? Not so much.

  • i dont know anything about honda motors. only think i know are the eclipse motors. they do have nasty bodys. and like i said the stock 420a is junk. but if you build it up they are good and strong motors. in my case. i went from a 2.0 to a 2.3 stroker.

    and i agree with the muscle car deal. those are big heavy cars. there area hand full that have power but most of them na they dont

  • i had a 420a in my eclipse ...years ago. i had it fully rebuilt with a stock turbo from a 4g63. didnt put out as much power as the 4g but i could run with them

  • i think the 4g63 is over rated. more props are given to the 4g63 than the 420a. the 420a is not a bad engine. nor is it the best. but it holds its own

  • LOL,my Mazda had the same problem but the valves are raiesed just enough so that if the timing belt brakes, the pistons wont hit the valves, my BMW has triple chain timing chain, never breaks :)

  • Your 63 Belvedere is only good for driving in straight lines, while my import can time attack tracks with corners and put down times that your car will never touch. Drag racing is a joke.
