No one is saying they can't look after 20 children, but each of their children will receive more food and consume more resources than 20 impoverished children. It's just greedy.

And 6 billion people may fit into Texas, but simply fitting into a space is not all that a human being requires. Ever heard of the term 'Ecological Footprint'? And the larger a family is, the more neglected & frustrated the children are- leading to crime. And it is simple mathematics- the larger the number of people in a group, the higher the chance that one of them is a criminal.

How can you give attention to so many kids. Asking the older ones to help with younger ones is not nice. The older girls need a social life and to go to college. I know not all kids are cut out to go to college but by having so many kids how can they afford to sent any kid who wants to go to college. It is hard enough to help one kid.

my husbands grandmother is catholic and didnt believe in birth control.... she had 17 children. my mother in law was the second oldest. i ask her all the time how it was growing up and she said they all loved it. and she, like the duggar girls, had to do lots of cooking and cleaning. it was a joy to her.

This family takes better care of their large family that some people with one child. So we do see they have values, a good home, food, structure, morals, compassion, hard work and don't ask anyone else to support them.
And each child is not overburdened. One older child is assigned to one younger.
I came from 7 children, but we were poor and my mom had health issues, so it was harder, but we were still fine and better people for it.
