@breker19er Ah, looks like I have to make another video. It is a solomon bar, the same knot you see on braided paracord watch bands. i just leave out a exra long loop of material.
I love All your videos! i am think about buying that Golok machete! how o you make those lanyards on all the back of your knives? maybe u could post a vieo going over the process? or do u buy them factory made?
u call yourself an amateur at sheath making ......but for someone who says that about th emselves u make fricken awsomely gorgeuos sheaths.....(no homo)..................but still friken awesome
The Condor knives are unfricken real values... I bought the Parang and it replaced my Ontario Machete in short order... The golok is my next purchase but they are hard to find in stock... BTW.. You made an awesome sheath for your golok... your a pretty talented leather crafter.. love how you incorporated the file sheath into it..
@rainmechanic thanks, much appreciated. I've actually made a newer sheath. I gave the golok and sheath in the vid to my brother and bought another one.
@NeuronTree Honestly... between pneumonia that almost killed me, working crazy hours, and a cold winter, I haven't been out much. It is on the top of my list for new videos. Not many trees where I live so I'm thinking of using old fence posts, though that isn't as accurate being in the woods.
You mention the combo of a 7 incher and a golok machete, I could not agree more. I'm from puerto rico, and a machete is indispensable for camping hiking, or just gutting or butchering a pig for christmas.:) Also a sturdy 7 incher I feel is better than 4 or 5 incher like a bushcraft knife, since the additional couple of inches aid in chopping lil branches and such without having to pull out the machete every time. I have a condor golok + becker bk7; both reliable blades.
@WeIsEwe33 much appreciated. I've actually since made a new sheath and given that one to my brother. I just winged it really . Measured everything out on cardboard first, then cut and sewed the leather together.
That Condor parang machete loocks awsome dude. Ur pretty skilled making sheaths to. Wish I could grab an hold on one of those condors but I cant find em here in Norway:(
@wilcox1219 I wish Ontario would make non-"D" injection molded handles. Their standard handle scales are terrible. The injection molded are far more durable and secure, just gotta get rid of that stupid gaurd
Beautifal job with the condor golok sheath!!, let me know if you would be willing to make another one i'd rather own that one then pay $15 for the shabby one from condor
I have a condor golok and I LOVE it. Its my favorite machete. And I didnt want to use it when i first got it either. hahaha. Its a beautiful piece. Been thinking about the parang too.
Thanks for the comments everyone. I really appreciate it. I'm still new at making sheaths, just starting to get the feel for them, but thank you nonethe less.
Condor makes some amazing high carbon tools. I just got my first Kukri from them a couple of days ago and I was blown away by the quality, and how well it accepted a fine edge, ESPECIALLY for the money. I've got one of their Parangs on my list as well - got to hold one when I picked up my Kukri and it was really nice. Really enjoyed your video and that the black leather case you made for your Golok was very impressive! Love the file pocket on it too - great idea and very nicely crafted!
I think you should do a chop test with the golok and parang. Been thinking of buying one from Condor to replace my panawal khukuri, would love to see it in action beforehand.
Whats the thickness on that Condor Golock and Parang?... Hopefully their thicker then the Ontario that i own.... I really liked the Parang.. and i dig that sheath you made for your Condor Golock.. If i bought the Golock i would clip the tip to give it a shape more like the Parang....Condor just came out with really affordable large camp knife called the "Hudson Bay Knife".. Basically a super affordable version of your swamp rat knife. Even comes with a convex edge.. Codor's now on my radar.
@rainmechanic The Golok starts at about 1/4 inch then tapers down to about 1/8th. It is definitely thicker than the ontario machetes. The parang doesn't have as pronounced a taper. It remains 1/4 almost all the way. I'd like to see a golok with a traditional tip as well. Though I'm not complaining. Condor is definitely doing something right.
yeah, I was somewhat. It's allergy season and my neighborhood is surrounded by alfalfa fields. My nose is almost constantly plugged this time of year.
@jwilson004athotmail I've had the axe so long I can't remember just where I bought it from. However, a quick search online brought up a few good options. Expect to pay between $110 and $125 for it. Pricey but you get what you pay for in this instance.
@nwmanitou gonna have to start saving up for that after the gathering, so far all the cost is coming out of John and my pockets, but that's ok as long as it's a success that's all that matters to us!!
Obviously you missed the memo that says that machetes are only good in jungle environments and useless everywhere else. LOL
If I had a nickel for every time someone said that on youtube or an outdoors board, I'd have a nice chunk of change by now.
CanItAlready 2 weeks ago
@CanItAlready You and I both. Most places around the world you'll see a machete type blade doing 99% of both the field and kitchen work.

Hey nwamanitou! How did you make your lanyards for your cutting tools?
