@monkeypuzzle351 Hipsters listen to The Cramps? And commenting on a YouTube video about how all the praise should be given to another semi-obscure artist isn't a typical hipster thing to do? Huh. Well, I guess I don't know anything anymore.
my grandma caught me watching this on her TV the only time it was ever broadcasted on the french network inthe very early 80's i uess?. She was horrified, scandalized and unplugged the st despite my protests....
Poor old granma Mimi Cancer and Alzeihmer got her 12 years ago.
I'm in my 40's now.Been listening to them since '81.Other acts(punk and otherwise) I've loved have turned other people off.I've inadvertently played them when;preppies,my parents,UPS men, little kids, rednecks, ghetto people, hippies, thugs,Brighthouse repairmen, were around.People seemed to like them(and start freaking) on some primal level.
"Do the red light rock! Down at the whorehouse! It's an electric shock! That makes your brain fall out! Works on your nerves! To make you twist and shout!"
I first saw The Cramps in DC at the Warner Theater in 1978. Root Boy Slim was the headliner. I was amazed by The Cramps, plus there was more weed in the mens room than I'd ever seen! Cool Show. Met Lux & Ivy in Boston & was totally starstruck. Lux owned the stage,. He was as good as Iggy ever was, and I saw The Stooges in 1970 so I know...

Mick jagger meets Vincent Price. Absolutley nothing like them in 79 when i first heard them, genius, perfect cooking of genres, just everything they said they were.
So long Lux, you have given me over 20 years of the best music I have ever heard and there will never be another you. You were unique right up to the end.
Will miss you, Rest in Peace buddy. Much love to Ivy.....
Cramps frontman Lux Interior died Wednesday at a Glendale, Calif., hospital as the result of a pre-existing heart condition, the band's publicist confirmed to Billboard. He was 52. DEAR LUX, R.I.P......LENINGRAD CRYING.....
Saw The Cramps in 1983 at a club right around the corner from the Diplomat Hotel in Chicago, just off Belmont and Sheffield. Can't for the life of me remember the name of hte club. Also saw The Three O'Clock there about the same time. I remember the lead guy (mike quercio) yelling "you're a FAGGOT!!" at some heckler there.
Good times.
Nine Nine Nine at some rural dive in Northwest Indiana, The Stranglers in Cincy,.... these vids sure do bring back memories.
when i saw them at the trobadour with about 100 people around 1980, i sat in the front row ...right under IVY, who was wearing the shortest, tightest,mini-skirt....and as they played one of the best sets i'd heard in a long long time,,,the whole time i was staring, staring,, hypnotized by her legs and red panties..i nearly drooled myself to death..IVY i love you.
No offence Zor but not sure thats little known....but maybe thats my age...The Cramps ARE the best band on the planet and its about time they stopped taking Es and LSD in the Hollywood hills and came and played live again...check out the "Tear it up" posting from Oslo 2006 when Luxy was a mere 61yo!
Little known fact, The Cramps basically invented psychobilly before The Meteors even did it, but Bryan Gregory's guitar style actually helped to influence and create shoegaze as well. The Cramps are one of the greatest bands of all time, I hope they're around a lot longer.
Minde-bending tune! Seems to have a little dual-meaning subjectwise. Sometimes seems to mean an occupational sanitation worker steming the tide of material refuse ( "I'm just what you need when you'r down in the dunes" "So stick out you'r can" not to mention the sound of a garbage truck ), where other times it seems to be about a drug dealer ( "Get out of you'r minde or get out of my way" "I cant lose with the stuff I use" ). Just seems to alternate between the two definitions! Realy cool!
This was their best lineup but Bryan Gregory was just too fucked up to keep it going. Still great, worked about 6 of their concerts and in one Lux actually finished the show naked. Too bad it wasn't Ivy!!
The Cramps played sunset junction last year. There is a lot of great new music if you go see local bands. You just can't rely on mainstream media anymore.
Because Clear Channel (who controls all of the radio stations in the country) and Fox (who dispenses American Idol) have brainwashed American youth into thinking the nice, safe sludge they purvey is "music".
good point!we have the same sort of problems here in the uk also apart from 1 radio station 'bbc 6 music' digital and live online 24 hrs fantastic it is the breakfast show alone can play 'the cramps',syd barratt, gun club, etc!now thats what i call 'wake up music'!
I think some are romanticizing the past; The Cramps were "understood" (pun intended) by a minority. "One half hillbilly the other half punk" ain't and didn't resonate with the average person in the 80s. The era of Michael Jackson and Madonna. The Cramps were a breath of fresh air then, and they still are due in part to their relative obscurity. So, I still think only the musically open minded "understand" .....and it's nice to see that some people are discovering them. Long live the Cramps!
That first Guitarist They had, Brian Gregory played some of the Greatest Noise I've ever heard. 'Songs The Lord Taught Us' one of the Greatest Rock n Roll Albums of ALL TIME)))t
The Cramps have got to be the most underrated band of the entire original punk era. They absolutely rocked their farking asses off and sounded like absolutely nobody else in that entire scene. Plus they did as much or more than anybody to start off the rockabilly and garage rock revivals.
IMO, Gravest Hits and Songs the Lord Taught Us have held up a LOT better than a lot of more acclaimed albums from that same time have.
Bryan may not have been the greatest player from a technical standpoint, but he did exactly what was needed. Without bass you gotta have something to fill up space, and Bryan's wall of fuzz did the job great.Plus he really did have an amazing presence. They lost a LOT after he left, and while they still put out some great shit, they never equaled those first two records, IMO.
Some people don't get that not every band calls for an Allan Holdsworth or a Steve Vai.
This video makes me sad and happy at the same time.Sad,cause most people nowadays wont ever understand this great band and music. Most artists now appear to have this handbook on what to do and what not to do to be a great artists, music is for escaping your troubles and let loose no matter how weird it comes out.And I think the cramps enbodies all that freedom in music ,wich todays music lacks a lot of.And finally im happy cause the cramps did exist.

I think some are romanticizing the past; The Cramps were "understood" (pun intended) by a minority. The Cramps were a breath of fresh air then, and they still are due in part to their relative obscurity. So, I still think only the musically open minded "understand" .....and it's nice to see that some people are discovering them. Long live the Cramps!
