If you think this is worship you are mistaken. We Catholics do not adore images if we did we wouldn't be Christians. The image is a reminder. We remember our Lords life giving death but we preach a resurrected Christ.
"The Our Father contains all the duties we owe to God, the acts of all the virtues and the petitions for all our spiritual and corporal needs. (...) Thomas a Kempis says that it surpasses all the desires of all the saints; that it is a condensation of all the beautiful sayings of all the psalms and canticles; that in it we ask God for everything that we need, that by it we praise him in the very best way; ..." - "The Secret of The Rosary"
la Cruz es signo de amor, de entrega, verbum caro factum est, el verbo de Dios se hizo carne y murió por nosotros. No es idolatría es recordatorio de la entrega de Cristo por AMOR
As St John of Damascus so eloquently put it, "...before the appearance of Christ we could not make an image but after Christ took Flesh THE INVISIBLE BECAME VISIBLE FOR ALL TO SEE." Seeing or having a crucifix is not worshipping it.
Those who claim they are Christian without any religion are like those who claim they are medical doctors but have no training.Religion should provide growth and a closeness with the creator. You cant find that by sitting in a park and looking at the sky.
@francisxcc When church is so against idolatry, I do not understand why a crucifix adorns all churches and is carried by the Pope himself. The story of the poor widow does not, in any way, teach us to donate to the temples, instead, it shows however small a gift maybe, if given with LOVE, is the most precious gift ever. Where she donates her money is immaterial, even if the donation was not for the Temple and for a charity, Jesus' answer wouldn't have varied.
Absolutely simple. We wear and display crucifixes because "we preach christ crucified"! A crucifix is to remind fallen man at what price he was redeemed.
If you reckon carrying or displaying a sacred crucifix is idolatory, then you I'm not sure where you developed your ideas about christianity from.
@Czar0Robin also we do not worship any pictures, statues, etc. We use crucifixes, sacred pictures , statues , to help us remember what they have done for us. For example, we have crucifixes to help us remember what Christ have done for us. He endured everything and did everything for us. To me , the crucifix helps me remember to forgive as He forgave too.
@Czar0Robin We do not worship the cross, we use it as a symbolic reminder of Christs sacrifice for us, how deeply Christ and God the father love us and care for us. The Cross is a divine symbol that preaches Christ's message and is instantaneously recognizable world wide. The cross as a symbol repels evil spirits and strengthens the spiritual faith of devout. We do not worship the object but what it intrinsically represents; Christ the Savior! God Bless brother.
@Czar0Robin Well you better not look at a photo of your dead grandmother, it might be considered idolatry in your eyes. We are not worshipping the image the image is there to remind us and move us spiritually of all HE has suffered for us. You are confusing worship with a symbol of rememberance..
I don't know why Conversion is necessary to be able to love God, I think an Atheist who is kind and loving is far dearer to God than a Christian following all commandments and yet being rude to those lower than him.
Of course we can all be rude at times, especially when we're wronged, but if we're sincere, we acknowledge it isn't a smart way to be, precisely because it displeases God.
I never felt the need of being a Christian to love God and His Prayers. Most Holy Lord of all needs no religion, just having love in the heart is enough.
If your respect for Truth (God) is reflected in your values and you consistently put His dictates into tangible action, then you already "religiously" love God.
Jesus was faithful to every custom and practice of Judaism. He fulfilled the Law perfectly: circumcision, baptism, Sabbath, Passover - all these observances had meaning for Him. Was He was following a religion?
Why is religion such a bad and scorned word these days? Is it because no religious practices help to lead us to God or is it because thare are so many wrong/twisted religions around, all claiming to lead to God? Should we really throw out the baby with the dirty bathwater?
@francisxcc "You hypocrites, Isaiah aptly prophesied about you: ‘This people honors me with their lips, yet their heart is far removed from me. It is in vain that they keep worshiping... because *they teach commands of men* as doctrines.’” --Matthew 15:7,8 Is what describes the Modern church most aptly. All Jesus taught was about Love, and the Modern Christians express their "love" for Christ by shunning and condemning those who call God with other names.
Don't know which "modern christians" you're referring to, but the one true church that Jesus established is continually in respectful dialogue with people of all faiths - christian and non christian. You'd do well to be more specific in your comments instead of slinging mud generally at undefined people. That serves no purpose whatsoever.
BTW, Jesus taught about a whole lot of things other than love. He also taught about sin, rejection of His church, judgement and hell.

God bless Poland for giving such a great Saint for the World!
You don't even know Jesus, let alone love God! Jesus founded the Church you hate and created and gave His life for the humans (including yourself) who you think "nothing good can come out of". Try to think a little (if you're not totally out of it) before you mouth off stupidities in the public square again!
True words... There are many people (see, I don't blame the whole Church, its silly to do so) who give our Church a bad name. But this is failure of a single PERSON, not the whole Church... There always have been people who attacked our Church, attack her and will do so in the future...but they will never win.
jayZ006 you are wrong! A human, a woman! Something beautiful came out of her! Thats the man you love! The church is in your heart! The love of God and you makes the church! Not a building of four walls. Religion is not going to save you but the love and faith to god! Dont judge any religion, any man or woman or you will be judged. think before you open your mouth! Humans are the image of god and we are his creation!
@jayZ006 I think you are justified in thinking so, especially considering the recent actions of the various Priests of the Church. The Church of Jesus Christ was not a monument made of gold that we need to donate money to, but one that is inside us, the Love in our hearts, the truest religion.
a) A few wayward priests can neither make or break a church which the Lord Himself founded and empowered to the end of time to help Him lead all souls to heaven. This church has both a spiritual and a real and tangible temporal dimension. It consists of both saints and sinners.
b) Remember the widow who put her two mites in the collection box in the Temple? Was Jesus impressed or did He counsel her not to donate money to the causes of the Temple?
@francisxcc And does He not condemn the man who donates huge amounts of money to the Temple?
I do agree that Jesus was faithful to all the customs of Judaism, and I do not understand why the modern Christians, if Jesus Himself could do it, do not show the same respect and tolerance towards other religions.
@francisxcc Most Christians will readily quote verses from the Bible justifying their acts of hatred against homosexuals, etc. but never do they remember what Jesus says about Loving enemies or Forgiveness. And Jesus Himself was crucified by the Priests with excuses relating to religion. I repeat, Jesus' church was to be of Love, not of Hatred.
Jesus and His church teach us to love and accept everyone as our brothers and sisters. That does not mean however, that we have to embrace and encourage boundless or disordered sexual activity, which Scripture specifically condemns. Encouraging someone to act out their homosexual tendencies - instead of counselling/helping them to abstain - isn't "loving" them; it's aiding and abetting the defilement of their sacred, God given bodies.
That date's been conjectured by the Polish Press for a long time. Final approval for beatification has now been granted by the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, and only the current Pontiff's signature is awaited. So tell us, what else do you know?
Roboboogey, Please dont be nervous. You will fall completely inlove with "the Church" You will experience no other "Joy" comparable. You will be fullfilled with God's Promise like never before. We welcome you with open arms. May the Holy Spirit guide you and keep you.. I will pray for your conversion.
Yes, life takes on a totally new meaning, real meaning, when you give your assent of faith to God's one true Church, established personally by His Son for YOU! The Holy Spirit can then guide you step by step into all Truth - He just needs your unconditional 'yes'. So why wait? What's to be afraid of such a divine, love-filled Gift from the Holy Trinity? Trust God and just do it! :)
I'll remember you in my prayers and hope to say 'welcome to the family' soon!
Dearest Robo, our Lord Jesus is all Love, nothing to be nervous of, I promise,All you really need to do is just start by speaking from your heart to Him, give Him all your fears, anxieties, etc...He will provide, He is Loving, He is patient, you will begin to know that you have made the best FRIEND, one could ever need...I will pray for you, The Peace of Jesus to you...
@Roboboogey1990 : I've just seen your message. What I can tell you is to entrust yourself totaly to our Lord and pray. Conversion is His gift.
I reccomend you a book : "Les Grandes Amitiés" (The great friendships) written by Raïssa Maritain (she wrote in French but you may find a translation). It is a book about two young people who converted and all their way through it, their questionings, their fears, etc., to which they found the answer in the Christian faith.
@Roboboogey1990 I will pray for you. Come home to the One True Church founded by Jesus Christ. We are everywhere in the world and you will always be welcome in the Catholic church
I gdzie te wielkie zgody kibiców, zwaśnionych ludzi? Pytam się! Tak wielki człowiek poświęcił całe życie dla innych, a jak ostatnio czytam w internecie krytykę w stosunku do JPII aż mi się wierzyć nie chce...
You are entitled to that opinion of course, but it just might be a minority one! Most folks I know still thrill at his singing! It's all in the ear of the listener, I suppose! :)

i love jesus i love god he is my savior and lord, but i hate this rotten orgaization we call church absolutely NOTHING good can come out of humans
jayZ006 2 years ago
You don't even know Jesus, let alone love God! Jesus founded the Church you hate and created and gave His life for the humans (including yourself) who you think "nothing good can come out of". Try to think a little (if you're not totally out of it) before you mouth off stupidities in the public square again!
francisxcc 2 years ago 16
@francisxcc
True words... There are many people (see, I don't blame the whole Church, its silly to do so) who give our Church a bad name. But this is failure of a single PERSON, not the whole Church... There always have been people who attacked our Church, attack her and will do so in the future...but they will never win.
AureusVenerabilis 1 year ago
Then why do you trust the humans Luther & Calvin & your pastor? Why not trust the Church that Jesus built for you? I love you.
Roboboogey1990 2 years ago
jayZ006 you are wrong!
NightWalkerFromHell 1 year ago
@jayZ006 I think you are justified in thinking so, especially considering the recent actions of the various Priests of the Church. The Church of Jesus Christ was not a monument made of gold that we need to donate money to, but one that is inside us, the Love in our hearts, the truest religion.
Czar0Robin 1 year ago
@Czar0Robin
a) A few wayward priests can neither make or break a church which the Lord Himself founded and empowered to the end of time to help Him lead all souls to heaven. This church has both a spiritual and a real and tangible temporal dimension. It consists of both saints and sinners.
b) Remember the widow who put her two mites in the collection box in the Temple? Was Jesus impressed or did He counsel her not to donate money to the causes of the Temple?
francisxcc 1 year ago
@francisxcc And does He not condemn the man who donates huge amounts of money to the Temple?
I do agree that Jesus was faithful to all the customs of Judaism, and I do not understand why the modern Christians, if Jesus Himself could do it, do not show the same respect and tolerance towards other religions.
Czar0Robin 1 year ago
@Czar0Robin
a) No He does not. He only condemns vain, public shows of charity.
b) True christians do! And they're not hard to find either, so I can't figure out why you're insisting otherwise.
francisxcc 1 year ago
@francisxcc Most Christians will readily quote verses from the Bible justifying their acts of hatred against homosexuals, etc. but never do they remember what Jesus says about Loving enemies or Forgiveness. And Jesus Himself was crucified by the Priests with excuses relating to religion. I repeat, Jesus' church was to be of Love, not of Hatred.
Czar0Robin 1 year ago
@Czar0Robin
What "acts of hatred against homosexuals"?

This is beautiful. I really need to convert. I've been wanting to for months but I just am nervous about making such a big commitment.
Roboboogey1990 2 years ago 13
Roboboogey, Please dont be nervous. You will fall completely inlove with "the Church" You will experience no other "Joy" comparable. You will be fullfilled with God's Promise like never before. We welcome you with open arms. May the Holy Spirit guide you and keep you.. I will pray for your conversion.
mysaviormygod 2 years ago 3
Yes, life takes on a totally new meaning, real meaning, when you give your assent of faith to God's one true Church, established personally by His Son for YOU! The Holy Spirit can then guide you step by step into all Truth - He just needs your unconditional 'yes'. So why wait? What's to be afraid of such a divine, love-filled Gift from the Holy Trinity? Trust God and just do it! :)
I'll remember you in my prayers and hope to say 'welcome to the family' soon!
God bless.
