Hey everybody, try reading Steve Vai's articles called "Martian Love Secrets". They really helped me finding my own style, and they were probably the most inspiring things I've ever read. you can find them on his website :)
i always think, sound however you want to sound. play what you want to play. do what you want to do. But do what steve says to :P he knows more about life than me :P
@ironwolg I'm a newbie at guitar. I play for about a year. I can say that, it's on your fingertips. Some sounds makes you happier or feel aggressive, follow your inner thoughts. The way you make a bend or a vibrato, how it makes you feel and how you wanted to feel or how you want other people want to feel. That's all it's about i guess. As far as i understand, feeling comes from technique. Learning the instrument and to be at peace with it comes first, at least as far as i learned.
Update: I mean "feeling the audience gets" comes from technique...Your technique must be accurate to the point that you can express your feelings in versitile ways.
This can't relate with people who are just starting out. He's talkin about guys who have years of well disciplined experience.....

My style
is a stop tail guitar, with 10-46 strings, in drop c tuning,
genre = heavy metal, rock, etc
StanwoodSpartans 9 months ago
@StanwoodSpartans 10-46 in drop C? Seems a little light.. What bands?
TheNovemberRomance 6 months ago 2
@TheNovemberRomance
system of a down, a7x, slipknot, stone sour, jimi hendrix, vai, lots of others lol
StanwoodSpartans 6 months ago
@StanwoodSpartans
??? Hendrix, Vai and SlipKnoT at least, they don't play in Drop C. Those would be Standard and Drop B and Drop A.
Also, there's no way they use 10-46. At least Daron Malakian noted that he uses like 56 gauge at least, perhaps even heavier on Baritones.

@StanwoodSpartans thats not a style. you are really not getting the point of this video..unless your just being sarcastic.

it's kinda hard for me to figure out exactly how to be myself on guitar, that's one thing i have trouble understanding
ironwolg 2 years ago
@ironwolg I say start working on your own songs. It'll help you a lot.

Yeah I'm with you, it's not so easy to find your own style
nowadays. With so much famous guitarists, most of what you play sounds like something Vai, Satriani or whoever would play.
It's hard to create any signature thing of yours.
marcuchin96 1 year ago
@marcuchin96 yeah i know, that's why i wish Vai would explain HOW to do it rather than just saying "do it"
