don't ban books but, don't force kids to read them either. from a high school students prespective, books like catcher in the rye are good for us. well, not good. but, its good to read them. we already know its out there. so just, relax

The mocked up copy of the fictitious "The Boat Rocker" uses very distinctive artwork borrowed from the original first editions of several popular Jack Kerouac novels, specifically "On The Road" (1951) and "The Dharma Bums" (1958). The Terence Mann character probably owes more to Kerouac than J.D. Salinger, as has been suggested by many critics.

I just watched the Stallone movie called "Cobra" that woman that wants to ban books was the crazy woman that also was a cop in the movie and tried to kill Cobra at the end. Yep, thats really her.

Then she resorts to demagoguery, calls her opponent a Nazi, then claims that SHE'S the one being Stalinist. Freedom of expression is not impinged when a school bans a book. And, of course, the '60s counter-culture had more similarities to Nazism than that woman (apart from the "mongrelisation of the races" thing, which the film-makers obviously put in to make sure that you can't defend her. Calling your opponents racists is a typical tactic of her kind - just like what they did to Reagan).

I hated this scene. It's just awful. She's a self-righteous hippie (i.e. rich kid who did nothing but smoke pot and claimed to be revolutionary). Her kid's what, eight? There is no way the book of a JD Salinger rip-off is appropriate for that school. Does she really want her little girl to be told to make love? Then she claims that the '60s meant you had to do drugs and have sex with everything that moves.
