Phone is horrible. It is SLOW. It only allows you to type one page of a text which really sucks, so that means you have to abbreviate everything you say, which is really hard because the phone is very stubborn and it takes forever for you to be able to put new words in the dictionary. It takes 5 minutes to turn on which is a real bummer. And if you charge it after its been dead, it takes 20 minutes. AND once the battery is at a certain point, it wont let you make calls or text. HORRIBLE.
Well to give my honest opinion, I personally do not like the blackberry pearl flip i honestly think the pearl flip was a horrible idea, no the pearl idea in general, was horrible i used to have a cure 8530 and it was decent and now i have a htc evo, much better.
Even though you own the same phone as me, I feel as though you're in the twilight zone. In my experience, this phone sucks. Its battery drains way too fast compared to better models like the Sony Ericsson's, sometimes when I make a call I get this weird buzzing sound even though the other person can hear me, and it lags more than it should for a modern and recent model. Major thumbs down there.

@do3boii Don't get this phone. The screen on the inside gets scratched up just from opening/closing the phone (no BS). BB is great but the flip is poorly designed. The front gets scratched up pretty badly easily also. Otherwise it's great phone, but when you open/close the phone & you see the scratches on your screen...it'll piss you off.

I had the first one replaced under warranty since it kept freezing up and lost the bluetooth capability. After a few months, the replacement had the same problem. This phone is truly a boil on the butt of Blackberry. The concept was a great idea, but it failed in the execution.

I have a blackberry curve and this is how i put ringtones as seperate things. First search for the profiles icon in your blackberry's main menu and then go down to advanced than when you are in that menu slect SMS or MMS.

oh yeah and one of the major reasons that you have a slow expirince rite noe its cux u have over 300 text messages.. just press L and all of them will be read... and you will have a faster expirience :P

takes a while to get used to because of the QWERTY layout, especially if you're used too the original cell phone keyboard layout. But once you get used to it, it's not a problem at all.
they will try to make you get the data plan they might even tell you that the phone might run slower if you dont add a data plan (totally false) you could just have a voice plan on any blackberry unless the device is 3g like for example the mytouch and all those high-tec phones ...

all you have to do is go to the volume thing(you know where you change vibrate, off, quite ect)...push on it with the track ball, scroll down to "advanced", DO NOT CLICK ON IT;click the menu key...you know the one under the talk button, and click edit,then go down until you see SMS text, click on it then you just custimize it.

I just upgraded to this phone and to answer your question. No, it does not require data. In order to get the full discount, you have to at least sign up for unlimited texting, $15 a month. But once you get your rebate back, you can cancel it. I was told this by more than 1 T-Mobile rep.

I've had 2 Blackberry flip phones since May, and I hate them!!!! As soon as I left the store after getting the first one, it dropped a call, and continued to do the same thing daily. I got the 2nd one replaced as well as my sim card and it still does the same thing. I have tried everything the provider told me to, but no improvement. I am now about to get my 3rd replacement and I'm not expecting much. I have had the same provider for 4 yrs and NEVER had this problem with other phones.
To quickly enter a period just press space twice. Apostrophes are automatically added.Press space in a web url and it become a period.Lots of great shortcuts in all blackberries. It's just a matter of learning them.

i got the flip a few months ago and it works fine, except that it is verrrry slow; expect to spend alot of time waiting for it to respond when you try to do anything.

i don't have any experience with the samsung unfortunately, so my opinion wouldn't be worth much there. as far as the bb 8520 goes, i have used it (briefly) and think it's a very sold phone. bb's in general have a great interface and will always get the job done (except maybe my snail-paced pearl flip, lol). also, the bb has a good keyboard to type on. that's just my $0.02. i'd really recommend trying 'em out side-by-side if you can

Omg, I had this phone for 2 FULL YEARS!
I haven't had to return it back not once.
It lasts long, the battery takes forever to die and is quick to charge (which is a good thing).
Overall, it's your average BlackBerry but this time it can flip.
I've seen the new BlackBerry Flip and that thing is HUGE!
Lol, kind of embarrassing to walk around talking on that.
But yeah, this phone is good.
Oh and btw, to make a period you double space or press alt and press the 'op' button.

scro;; down to advanced options and click on it. .select which profile you want to edit,
click menu, select edit. .it will open to SMS, Voice mail, e-mail, etc , then select the tones you want to apply for each.

pretty cool phone... my uncle has it. i found it pretty slow though than the regular blackberries. i also like the blackberry pearl (not flip) better by design. (i dont like flip phones)

I had the Blackberry Pearl flip too and was disappointed.
Writing text is slower then snails pace. Internet surfing is even slower, even with the phone one foot any from the router.
I even hit a few snags making a phone call. The blackberry responded so slow, the numbers did not show until 2 seconds later.
This was a NEW phone at the time.
This phone is way too soft.
I'm going to sell it and get an IPhone

yes its a great phone worth getting, its very nice at texting the keyboard is awesome and its very classy. i have one and love it, but im more of a blackberry curve guy....only because of the full key board, but i still recommend this

I bought a Blackberry Pearl and I am dissapointed. The camera is very lame and the autotext is not effective, writing a message takes forever :-/ ...and it is very fragile.

oh yeah and one of the major reasons that you have a slow expirince rite noe its cux u have over 300 text messages.. just press L and all of them will be read... and you will have a faster expirience :P

ok well i have a question about the side sound buttons when the flip is closed and i press them i see my facebook comments but i only see the name of the person and thats it is there a way of showing the whole message without opening the phone and it dont show up if i wait like in the video and i only see facebook comments not my email like in the vid does just dont think that the face book logo should take 3/4 of the front screen

takes a while to get used to because of the QWERTY layout, especially if you're used too the original cell phone keyboard layout. But once you get used to it, it's not a problem at all.

they will try to make you get the data plan they might even tell you that the phone might run slower if you dont add a data plan (totally false) you could just have a voice plan on any blackberry unless the device is 3g like for example the mytouch and all those high-tec phones ...

okay i had that problem too.
all you have to do is go to the volume thing(you know where you change vibrate, off, quite ect)...push on it with the track ball, scroll down to "advanced", DO NOT CLICK ON IT;click the menu key...you know the one under the talk button, and click edit,then go down until you see SMS text, click on it then you just custimize it.
hope this helped, it took be about two weeks to figure it out, but i got it!

hey! i don't know if it helps, but you can change it, i have the same phone, you click on the green phone button, and then the blackberry menu button, and then general options, and there, you can change the way you answer your phone!

Keep in mind, in order to use EMAIL and Instant messaging, you have to have a data plan. To get around this, simply use a third part app such as Logicmail and Beejim.

I just upgraded to this phone and to answer your question. No, it does not require data. In order to get the full discount, you have to at least sign up for unlimited texting, $15 a month. But once you get your rebate back, you can cancel it. I was told this by more than 1 T-Mobile rep.
Mine was $50 with full discount after MIB, I had to dish out over $150 upfront.

I've had 2 Blackberry flip phones since May, and I hate them!!!! As soon as I left the store after getting the first one, it dropped a call, and continued to do the same thing daily. I got the 2nd one replaced as well as my sim card and it still does the same thing. I have tried everything the provider told me to, but no improvement. I am now about to get my 3rd replacement and I'm not expecting much. I have had the same provider for 4 yrs and NEVER had this problem with other phones.

To quickly enter a period just press space twice. Apostrophes are automatically added.Press space in a web url and it become a period.Lots of great shortcuts in all blackberries. It's just a matter of learning them.

i got the flip a few months ago and it works fine, except that it is verrrry slow; expect to spend alot of time waiting for it to respond when you try to do anything.
i'd recommend the g1 over this...my carrier didn't offer an android device which is why i now own the 8230

i don't have any experience with the samsung unfortunately, so my opinion wouldn't be worth much there. as far as the bb 8520 goes, i have used it (briefly) and think it's a very sold phone. bb's in general have a great interface and will always get the job done (except maybe my snail-paced pearl flip, lol). also, the bb has a good keyboard to type on. that's just my $0.02. i'd really recommend trying 'em out side-by-side if you can
