Banging on the table is a very naturral human move when singing....there's a rhytm and a tempo to a song, and it's mainted and enforced with drumming no the table

I have one question and one comment: Is there any significance to the banging the hands on the tables? On Purim it is done to blot out the name of Haman. Why do it during the Birkat Hamazon? Or is it just for fun?

at jacobs camp in mississippi, we do it like that, but we don't hit the table as much as you guys do

My synagogue, Congregation Beth Am in Los Altos, California, sings this with almost the same lyrics and melody! When we do in this on the retreats, people actually have to lift stuff off the table to make sure it doesn't spill from the strength with which we pound the tables!!

i went to a jewish camp for 5 summers and we too sang this after every meal. even though the tune was a little different we still did the banging of the table! good times! :)
