  • Is it Anneke on the chorus?

  • Reminds me alot of Tool

  • Man..what a trippy ..intelligent tune ...so non contrived..I love the female vocals and especially the verse she sings.....the universe is so much larger than our belief system..It's just a wee bit arrogant to think we can put it in a nutshell...

  • this is absolutely brilliant! I love ki as an album...its perfect!

  • 4:10 - IMHO, the best guitar solo he did since nobody's here!

  • @standardbearer Nothing tops Deep Peace though...

  • Devin's new album was kinda a let down tbh

  • @MojaKann You mean Ghost and Deconstruction? My favorites! :)

  • @MojaKann No way? Deconstruction and Ghost?

I mean, we are all entitled to our opinions, but there are two flaws with your opinion. (In my opinion.)

If you dislike Deconstruction, it basically tells everyone that you lack the ability to expand upon your normal listening range. The fact that it is so chaotic and insane is what makes it so genius. Not liking it is actually the insane thing.

and Ghost? Disliking a slow, soothing album like Ghost means you basically don't have a soul.

  • The song's actually called Heaven's End, Devin said that was it's official name :3

  • i need more Ché Aimee!

  • 5 people have no souls

  • Damn!!! Devin, Duris, Dave, and Jean make such a kick ass team!

  • i like balls in my face

  • This song single handedly ruined Ki for me. So fucking depressing.

  • So far my Fave love it at 2:00 and beyond :)

  • I wish Devy, Steven Wilson, and Mikael Akerfeldt did an album together.

  • @metallicat67 Mikael Akerfeldt is a guest vocalist on Deconstruction

  • this funky base riff makes me want to put an octopuss on my head and spook on old people

  • How could Heaven be so frenetic

Oh you've got it, without fanatic hold to body

How your Semitic hold to God it seems so funny...

  • cant listen to this once, as soon as i press play i know im in for at least three+ listens

  • 4 people have no souls!

  • nice. I really enjoyed this. I found this band in pandora

  • this is heavier than the heaviest heavy metal song. huh!

  • who is the chick?

  • @TheHarrod666 Not 100%, but Devin's been doing a lot of work with (sp?) Anneke Von Giersbergen. not sure if he was working with her on ki, but she's on addicted and etc.

  • @TheHarrod666 Ché Aimee Dorval accoding to wiki-p.

  • @CyanideSovereign never heard of her

  • i just got done odering this c.d. right after listening to Coast, i had to have it. nice.

  • i want to see him with Mike Patton, please...

  • @gabrisimspon lol.. not really... patton's golden days are long gone.

  • @adegamisoumounopano i'm sorry but i think he's still a genius

  • Nah. It's definitely better the way it is now.

  • This song could be better if it's distorted. I don't like the chick singer either..

  • @lasoogneypubes i actually liked the girl singing.. and i normally hate female singers.

  • The Cure suck

  • Such a refreshing artist, thanks.

  • the new black is a musicgasm. Get it. Listen to it. Scream with it.

Or as Dev would say, suck a turd to a point, turn it sideways and stab yourself in the head with it. Lulz.

  • damn this is awesome

  • just started to get into Devin, before this my life was lost.

  • amazing Devin, amazing Ché

  • I've listened to this song 10 times in succession. It's amazing.

  • props good sir...

  • I just baught 3 albums from Devin Townsend! Addicted, Ki and an earlier one Accelerated Evolution! Devin Townsend is a fucking Canadian BEAST

  • @AjfromDamons Duuudeee, Accelerated Evolution is great, ain't it? I just bought that one recently, too. It's great. Addicting, you might say. ;)

  • My favorite Devy song. Just pure genius

  • I think most of Ki is progressive rock, isnt it?

  • One of my top songs for sure. Just goes to show that it doesn't need to be heavy to be good.

  • I love Dev and SYL, but I have to say the drums/bass on 80% of this track are generic, weak, uninspired. I had to keep from falling asleep... there I said it.

  • @logicape night night moron!!!

  • @dreamtheater1957 I'm a moron for having an opinion? If you think the majority of the rhythm track here is inspired, I think we know who the moron is. Listen again without your fanboy ears.

  • @logicape

yes, we listen and appreciate the music....generic it is not....listen again and have a valid opinion...

  • @logicape i always thought this cd was best listened to in a trance like state, so falling asleep isnt that bad a thing

  • @Jalienel Yea, I hear that.

  • im not really familiar with Devin's work but some of the stuff ive heard lately out of his new music sort of reminds me a little of FNM's Angel Dust....somehow. I guess there are other musical influences too. It's nice how there are these other styles mixed in and you cant quite put your finger on the type of music that it is. this music is REALLY interesting.

  • something seriously freaks me out in this master piece. Is it still Devin Townsend singing in the pre chorus section 3:00 cause it sounds so high, freaky, and sexy at the same time. Im seriously curious.

  • @666deceased666 ha ha nope guest artist, would be funny though...

  • @666deceased666 it's not Devin, it's a Canadian solo singer named Che Dorval. She's on a few of the tracks on Ki

  • in fairness it could be seen as trying the album before you buy it you know.

  • Everytime I listen to this song I get goosebumps.

  • A lot of it's beauty is lost with youtube overcompression.

  • @drogoscg1 Devin wanted to return on his terms and he sure did.

If he always made music people wanted to hear... well he wouldn't be that great of an artist. His music is quite honest and that gives it much more "soul".

Sure, it a bit "simple" at first glance. And Devin is famous for creating atmospheric sound. It's just a bit different compared to his usual stuff.

I love bass in this song an how it is "produced" in sound scene. Sounds creepy.

Youtube is not the place to listen to his music.

  • @Glad1kun Devin's songs seem simple because of the simple riffs - but his music is ridiculously layered - so that Youtube is not the best place to listen to his music - best way to listen to his music is through a good pair of headphones

  • If you like this song... please buy the album. Although to be fair i'm waiting for that 4 disc set to come out.

  • it's not always about cutting the fucking edge. jeeze

  • @drogoscg1 That's not the point. This album is about control, which is something Devin Townsend almost never expresses. It's a shocking turn and I'm sure Devin was aware it wouldn't appeal to everyone, but honestly, it doesn't need to be "cutting edge" to be awesome, just sound good.

  • @drogoscg1 you didn't make it past the intro of one song? Need ritalin much?

  • @drogoscg1 I agree with salient... I think you need ritalin.

  • Is that Amy Lee towards the middle?

  • Its 2pm. I think its about time I got some Fucking Breakfast.

  • Good idea!

  • @LiamDocherty Listen it in HD than you will understand.

  • @Kohllikesnachos

Gotta say I'd love some fucking breakfast and/or breakfast fucking now!

  • @Arthemesic Remember to practice safe breakfast - always use a condiment ;-)

  • @Kohllikesnachos

Hahahah xDD Thanks for the heads up, I'll keep it in mind ^^

But what if I feel like a cunning linguist, and perhaps might savour the 'breakfast' a bit?

  • is there hints of Steve Vai in that guitar solo??

  • @mkklmann

    Jeez ! Do you think ? :D

  • Ohh, those two are like yin and yang, I knooow.

  • This is such a fucking groovy and catching song...but it could not be any better, coming from devin townsend:D i just love how tense it gets in the end

    XD

  • Husband: "How the hell did you get pregnant?"

Wife: "It was that fucking dinner!"

  • Fucking dinner tonight?

  • Lulz at the last comment. Saw your gig where you announced you were trapped in the 80s. I'll also buy you 'fucking dinner' since I already have the album. I didn't even steal this one.

  • You listen to the song here, if you like it, and you like DT, then buy the album to help pay for his fucking dinner. :D

  • Buying an album won't make Devin have any more money. His record label gets all the record sales.

If you listen to the song here, and if you like it, and you like DT, then go to one of his shows and buy some merch to help pay for his fucking dinner. :D

  • that was a pretty shitty contract that he signed to let his "label" have 100% profit of his record sales. For some reason I thought he was smarter than that. :D

    p.s. Fucking dinner...

  • @Redgrave0 It's his own record label, HevyDevy productions.

  • well if he's got time for me I'm quite happy to personally buy him fucking dinner, which would likely cost more than a CD or a T-shirt. if you're reading this Dev, PM me for your fucking dinner!

  • .... fucking dinner is catching on, awesome....

  • lets make it a meme. i'll add it on urbandictionary. it just needs a definition. behold, the fury of the internets!

  • why is he uploading the whole album when he wants the people to buy the album

i dont get the point in this acting

  • Inititally I uploaded 3, then I got a big demand to upload some more... so I uploaded 3 more. There's still some other kickass songs on the album which I haven't uploaded, it's up to you to buy the album to hear them.

  • and I don't know about you, but I prefer somthing tangabile to hold in your hand anyway.

  • @LiamDocherty and to hear them at optimal quality!!!

  • @LiamDocherty @dooomedking I first heard this stuff here, bought it, buying the back-catalogue. I've had people do similar with my own stuff, don't mind a bit, gets the word around. Us musicians are busking with our hats out now, not demanding price-of-admittance with our media, it's just how it is. Good!

  • @dooomedking Because unless you want to always have to sit by your computer when you listen to the songs, you have to buy it.

  • @dooomedking The most economically successful bands do ever got famous by radio broadcasting.

Radio is doing very bad today, and is controlled by creepy music industry (which is only interested on promoting rap, Shakira and hip hop, it seems)

So, I think that the only good way of broadcasting today is Youtube.

If you like a band, ¡Spread the word!

  • @dooomedking Yeah, it only makes perfect sense. If it wasn't on youtube they'd still find a way to stream it. This way it's just like "Enjoy! and hopefully enough to go and purchase the album afterwards!"

  • @dooomedking (watch?v=1IB9OBYiiL8#t=6m24s)

  • DEVin Townsend is Alien

  • Excelente un gran musico y gran persona.

  • is it me or after the silent break at the end the females voice changes into some alien sounding voice?

  • This man has tapped into something that very few people on the planet ever will!

  • BURN!!!

  • I'm seeing btbam, scale the summit, cynic, and devin townsend project january 31st in philly. :D

  • hell yeah, mine is on the 20 of january in Denver, Co

  • i'm seeing them february 1st in baltimore!

  • WHATWHATWHAT?!

  • awesome dude they're coming to toronto too so i might be seeing the exact same show as you. right on!!

  • Every time devin screams it's always appropriate and called for

  • Underestimated album...

  • does anyone else think the solo in this sounds a little Steve Vai-esque?

  • Townsend used to be with Vai

  • yeah, especially since he used to do vocals for steve vai.

  • well yeah

    I know that

"Sex and Religion"...epic ridiculous vox = amazing! :D

I just thought it was funny that hed take a few tips from Steve and play like him, if only for about 20 seconds

  • This is the first song I've ever seen on YouTube with no negative comments. And it's rightfully so.

  • cynic, between the buried and me, scale the summit and devin townsend on a tour together january and february :O WTF!?!??!?!?!? pretty sure if i saw that i'd explode. just sayin

  • I wish he was headlining the tour, though. He might not get his fair share of stage time.

  • i concur entirely. townsend's broader and older, i really feel he should be headlining.

  • thats a real tour

  • Favorite album of 2009 thus far.

  • I love the "how could heaven be so frenetic ..." part (the bit with female vocals) - the lyrics so well match the rhythm...

    Devin, you sober genius...

  • Well here is a little surprise for those who do buy the album- when you listen to the songs in order the album's true brilliance is revealed. Well worth the money....

  • I've listened to most of the songs on his album through youtube and I gotta say I'll probably buy the album.

    Kind of ironic, eh?

  • Woah. That was good. Really good.

  • Is that the lady from Madder Mortem?! I guess not, but she has identiac voice.

  • It's obvious that Devin (like the most of all musical genious and virtuoses) seems to communicate with the universal consciousness and expresses it through himself. Brilliant pieces of musical art.

  • Gotta love his falsetto

  • This really is an album you have to hear many times to like it. When I first listened to it, I thought it was the worst album of Devin's. But now I really enjoy this music, even or maybe because it's so different.

  • I thought it was an OK album when I listed to the itunes demos but now I really like the album.

(this is a supporting example to what you said)

  • Musical genious, not even fair.

  • brilliant solo

  • Que extraña cancion..........suena bien.Tousend siempre sorprende

  • The women vocalist has a great voice

  • The Fretless Bass is so bad ass. Devin is amazing

  • the calm before the storm; mesmerizing.

  • pure fuckin' genius

    i'm listening

  • fantastic song, absurd solo, musical messiah.

  • This if my favorite song off this record... With Trainfire, Gato, and Disrupt. :)

  • this isnt actually sound like cure but even if it it to some people, its cool cause u know who is devin...he can always right the most badass heavy riffs so.....peace out!

  • 2 : 50 devin voice??? or not??

  • awesome!!!

  • Which songs?

If it sounds like this, then I want to get into it!

  • Someone said this sounds like the Cure. Maybe the Cure in hell, on PCP, covered in alien blood and with big swinging testicles.

  • @ThePathofHavoc

Dude, that just sounds like my usual Saturday night.

  • this is crazy, its so funny that there are so many crappy musicians out there trying to be hard core and shit, but not making MUSIC but a product instead....this IS MUSIC....art. he is one of my idols and inspirations. Mike patton is also good....maybe even aphex twin....the best thing about these kind of people is that they are driven just by their passion and desire to explore music, im gonna have fun listening to this

  • Mike Patton is actually my musical idol, and one of my musical inspirations!

  • I've wondered what a collaboration between Mike Patton and Devin Townsend would produce. Would be epic, for sure.

  • I think I'd have a girly faint.

  • No pun intended? "Epic" - Faith No More's hit....lol

  • @lupine73 That's what I've been thinking for ages. Then I heard Textures :O As close as it gets... for now.

  • couldn't have put it better myself, this is the most insanely talented album I've ever heard and its so deceptively simple as well. But at same time still bloody technical in places.

  • Fuckin Bitchen!!

  • There are beings on this earth that vibrate to a higher frequency and Devin has tapped into something amazing. This album is free of all toxicity therefore pure and free. Can you feel it? Shivers....

  • Just listen to the FUCKING ENERGY this album has.

Can't wait till it arrives in JB Hi-Fi.

  • devin send

  • I love the song winter... it just makes me want to lie in a field on a nice sunny/cloudy day listening to it.. not having a care in the world

  • Best singer/producer ever

  • i love the solo

  • I find it curiously great how I don't "get" my favorite musician's albums on the first few listens. Took me a few to really like this album, but now I play it at least once a day. I love "Terminal".

  • this a great track, its odd but i love it, and the female vocals work real well.

  • i am so profoundly happy that the man continue making music and please his fans, now with four albums in a row? that´ s rare :P great track btw! heavy riffs without distortion, that´ s pretty rare too!
