He is SOOO right about the black belts in traditional not licking rubber gaurd and twister.. i trained with a brazilian who grew up with the gracies... He didnt want me using ruber gaurd cause its not part of what he teaches.
im not hating on eddie Bravo or 10th planet style but i do believe that u should start traditionally with a gi on then once you progress to a certain level of knowledge( blue belt perhaps) then start focusing on the no-gi style...i dont understand when i hear people syaing they learned an electric chair their first lesson...
is there any places that teaches 10th planet stuff that is close to north dallas/plano.. ive been learning off of these videos and brining thestuff to my bjj gym and they work great, but i want someone to physically teach me.
i live in cincinnati ohio and there are alot of haters here please come shut them up! and remember for every day there isnt a 10th planet in ohio god punches a baby
Eddie Bravo is probably the guy I'm the most fascinated about. I had the chance... no, no, the honor of participating in one of his seminar. He is awesome. The way he teaches, the way he is... He's awesome.
Really nice, takes time to help out every student in the seminars, takes time to talk with them after it, and also take the time to go have lunch with us after the seminar!
I was honored to meet him, and next time he will come down to Montreal, I'll make sure I go see him again!
from reading your book on mastering the rubber guard(which was fucking amazing..especially when you informed ppl about weed...mind blowing..lols) my flexibility is way much better thanks to you
I find it really interesting how he talks about his own students to this crowd away from Hollywood, it really sheds some objectivity onto our school. Ego is bad yo! Experimentation is what its all about.
i haven't seen the dvd yet, but the book is excellent. but nothing is better than first hand instruction if you can get it. i have attended a few of eddie's seminars and when you take it first hand, you'll understand everything more clearly.
Eddie Bravo is as a visionary for the jiu jitsu. It brings new thing for sport. He is really honest, he does not search glory. I well like to listen him to speak about positions and about used tactics. He is a great inspiration and a motivation.
I remember I rolled with Hermes Franca 2 months ago and was able to do rubber guard on him, but he taught me some of the weaknesses in closing it. Those weaknesses were always there, he just showed them and taught them to me. But the twister side control is certainly one of the most excellent positions ever. Thanks to it, I can EASILY get the mount in comparison to regular side control. Thank you for posting this video and thanks Eddie for your innovations.
eddie bravo's lectures are the best source any practitioner of the art can get... i mean, eddie should be inducted in some sort of hall of fame. now seriously, the twister side control is a useful tool. i used it a couple of times and i can't still get enough of it.. great stuff...
He's right about the rubber guard. I used to like regular guard but then I realized that i had long legs, and rubber guard is easier for me so I started useing that instead. But I need to learn alot more techniques from rubber guard cause i know about... none come to think of it.
after watching some of Eddies seminar footage and reading his books its little wonder why people learn so much from him, his ideas transmit so seamlessly in a way that everyone understands.
That's true. I started out in traditional martial arts, and over the years, developed insane flexibility for kicking. Little did I know at the time I'd be using that flexibility for my ground game. When you're flexible, it gives you so many more options in grappling.
I think this video is very important because there is a great movement of 'hating' on Eddie out there. Much of it is based on his 'unorthodoxed' approach and the misbelief that he thinks traditional BJJ is worthless.
His explanation here is spot on... if you want to evolve, you have to be good at the fundmentals too, but you cannot ignore new ideas.
