I agree completely with the dangers associated with Xanax. I've taken Xanax (or Ativan) since 1997. I'm careful to NEVER take more than 2 mg's a day and skip a day once in a while just to make sure I'm able to skip a day. Do NOT abuse Xanax or any other Benzodiazapene because you can quite rapidly become dependant on the feeling of "well being". Most importantly; Benzo's are NOT a party drug. They have way to much OD potential to play around with them. They work great but be careful!!

I take 3mg of klonopin daily, Xanax I was on, it was bars 2mg before, I took 2 a day, I do know Xanax is good for panic, i believe Klonopin and Xanax are TOO good, Valium is ok, if you want to sleep, but just don't get hooked, too late for me, I' have been on Benzos for years.

Xanax is a miracle drug if NOT abused! A single Xanax will calm a panic attack and allow you to calm down and even sleep. Great for PTSD. Just NEVER take more than 1 at any single time and NEVER take more than 3 days in a row. If you follow those simple "rules" you will not become dependant, or built an increased tolerance. Never, ever "party" with Xanax. It's far more dangerous than you can imagine and a nightmare to kick if you become dependant on them.
You make some great points. I take Klonopin daily for my GAD & insomnia. It is a longer lasting benzo with a slower onset. However, when I do experience a severe panic attack or I find that I cannot sleep, Xanax is a miracle drug! Xanax is fast acting & quite effective. People must be educated & responsible when taking any medication. Xanax, as well as opiate pain meds have been demonized by the media, causing doctors to be reluctant to prescribe medications for those of us that need it.

@randy95023 if you're going to give advice at least try and be accurate. more than one what size pill? the pills are prescribed in literally a range 0.25 mgs to 2 mgs. That means some of the people you're advising have a recommended dose of EIGHT times more than other people.
Just never take them when you don't feel you need them, and if your doctor tries to scale you up to bars (2 mg) find a new doctor and take a break for a few months

but the xanax will not make the panic attacks end as long as you're on it. It's not stopping the panic attacks alone, it has a broad effect. Panic attacks are simply your biological fear response, that's misattached to some trigger. You can mentally understand your way out of it far better than a pill will ever do you. But taking a pill is far easier...

Xanax to me is always and always has been physical dependancy. If you try to stop taking them after you have been on a daily dose of even 204mg daily for more than a few weeks you may have problems some others maybe months, but I have been taking Three bars daily for about three years now and have no plan to stop my life is so much better now. I had extreme anxiety and it is gone now.

Well of course if you mix it with other drugs, illegal or not, or alcohol your asking for a trip to the ER or worse. But there seems to be an element here of vilianizing the drug itself which when properly used is a safe and effective medication.
You can mix just about any prescription drug with other illegal drugs or booze and kill yourself. Yes, Benzos can be addictive. I have taken Xanax for a year and still typically stay under 1mg a day. I still cut my doctor prescribed dose in half.

Xanax shouldn`t be used as a hynotic effect or as recreational use. It should be taken under medical prescription to control anxiety disorders. I'm going through benzo withdrawal and have been off the drug for five months and am still in constant agony and hell. Benzos are the worst creation known to man. I don't want to hear bullshit about how helpful they are...blah blah blah. I've been there and now I'm here...in hell. It's not really your body, but your brain that's healing. Benzos (XanaX/Ativan/Klonopin take the place (does a better job) of the naturally occurring GABA (a relaxing chemical) your brain makes. I agree completely with the dangers associated with Xanax. I've taken Xanax (or Ativan) since 1997. I'm careful to NEVER take more than 2 mg's a day and skip a day once in a while just to make sure I'm able to skip a day. Do NOT abuse Xanax or any other Benzodiazapene because you can quite rapidly become dependant on the feeling of "well being". Most importantly; Benzo's are NOT a party drug. They have way to much OD potential to play around with them. They work great but be careful!!

Problem with Xanax and other Benzos is that they really do work. They do exactly what they're supposed to do and they do it well. Very easy to become dependant on Xanax, Valium, Ativan, etc. in our Fast Paced and stressful society. Be Careful! Never use too much or take more than 3 or 4 days in a week. If you take DAILY you will "need" DAILY. Problem is, Benzos work TOO well...

Xanax is a miracle drug if NOT abused! A single Xanax will calm a panic attack and allow you to calm down and even sleep. Great for PTSD. Just NEVER take more than 1 at any single time and NEVER take more than 3 days in a row. If you follow those simple "rules" you will not become dependant, or built an increased tolerance. Never, ever "party" with Xanax. It's far more dangerous than you can imagine and a nightmare to kick if you become dependant on them.

You make some great points. I take Klonopin daily for my GAD & insomnia. It is a longer lasting benzo with a slower onset. However, when I do experience a severe panic attack or I find that I cannot sleep, Xanax is a miracle drug! Xanax is fast acting & quite effective. People must be educated & responsible when taking any medication. Xanax, as well as opiate pain meds have been demonized by the media, causing doctors to be reluctant to prescribe medications for those of us that need it.

@randy95023 man I am so glad I never felt the wrath of benzos. About 1 year ago I was getting a steady supply of cheap xanax(1mg) and valium(10mg). On my way home from work I would pop at least 3 xanax and 4 valium. I had no clue about the dangers of benzos.
I'm just glad I never got a seizure or anything. I never even felt withdrawal, but I know it can happen so I consider myself lucky.

During a major panic attack I've taken 3 or 4 a couple of times. You really don't want to do that unless you've REALLY got to. Besides, why risk it? Also, if you build a tolerance it's expensive AND hard to kick...

@randy95023 if you're going to give advice at least try and be accurate. more than one what size pill? the pills are prescribed in literally a range 0.25 mgs to 2 mgs. That means some of the people you're advising have a recommended dose of EIGHT times more than other people.
Just never take them when you don't feel you need them, and if your doctor tries to scale you up to bars (2 mg) find a new doctor and take a break for a few months

ANYTHING can be the devil if abused. That is why medication should be used with consultation of a Doctor. I got myself into trouble the hard way..... by not having a legal prescription. I did not get in trouble with the law but ended up in the ER due to withdrawl. If anything, "xanax withdrawl" is the devil. I wouldn't wish it on a Canine.

but the xanax will not make the panic attacks end as long as you're on it. It's not stopping the panic attacks alone, it has a broad effect. Panic attacks are simply your biological fear response, that's misattached to some trigger. You can mentally understand your way out of it far better than a pill will ever do you. Xanax to me is always and always has been physical dependancy. If you try to stop taking them after you have been on a daily dose of even 204mg daily for more than a few weeks you may have problems some others maybe months, but I have been taking Three bars daily for about three years now and have no plan to stop my life is so much better now. I had extreme anxiety and it is gone now.

to me xanax wasnt addictive..i use to take xanax bars to get high...yes they do make you feel good..i build up a tolerance after a week or 2 i needed to 2 bars instead of one to get the feel good feeling back..and after i stop on week three ..that was the end of it...i wasnt feining for the pills after i stopped.. i felt normal...i believe its all in the mind

u would feel bad ass!!! trust me i do it all the time, best thing to do is make something called (pretty). buy 6 xanax pills( bars) and crush them and put it into a gallon of hawaiin punch n put a bag of jolly ranchers into it too. let it sit n then drink up, it tastes good n is a lean subsitute, actually its better than lean

it's exploited news reporting like this which while enlightening to the tragedy that can occur with misuse of the drug, is scare mongering a lot of people with anxiety disorder into not taking drugs like this at all out of fear of it. I went 39 years with anxiety which was mostly acute anxiety. well a year and a half back it evolved into GAD and I needed help. could i get a better effect if I took more? Im sure I could but I am not one to abuse or just prefer to play it safe. useless report!

Well of course if you mix it with other drugs, illegal or not, or alcohol your asking for a trip to the ER or worse. But there seems to be an element here of vilianizing the drug itself which when properly used is a safe and effective medication.
You can mix just about any prescription drug with other illegal drugs or booze and kill yourself. Yes, Benzos can be addictive. I have taken Xanax for a year and still typically stay under 1mg a day. I still cut my doctor prescribed dose in half.
