the new radeon hd 4890 has arrived in the pc-games hardware laboratory.

the cooler has to be removed for detail-photos of the GPU.

to do so you have to remove numerous screws.

radeon 4870 and 4890 in comparison.

4890, the upper one has one more (sorry dont know) for the GPU.

thats the only optical difference.

the cooler of the 4890 has a bigger area to get rid off the heat because off the grooves. A third heat pipe is supposed to cool the card even more.

A 1000W PSU, as long as it is from a decent brand is good for any computer set up you could possibly imagine. (Like an overclocked i7 965 @ 4Ghz, 12Gb RAM, 2x GTX 295 in quad sli). It should be good for anything at time. Computer parts use less power than you think, a GTX 280 will not draw more than 225W at full load (not capable due to the plugs it has).

but actually the hd4870x2 uses a maximum of 286watt.

pcie+6pin+8pin can only provide 300watt which won't be enough for the hd4890x2.

so it will need 2*8pin(can provide 375watt).

hopefully 40nm structures are comming soon...

meeeh i overclocked my card a bit whit riva and it crashes my video diver using the new clock speeds in crysis warhead. back to default and everything is fine. overclocking a GPU is like overclocking a CPU. we can't higher the voltages on our cards as long we don't use a evga card. they offer a voltage higher program.

what do you people think companys do. Make special GPU for overclocking? no they take a card use a tool to find its safest speed then mod the bios to force that speed. All your getting buying a preoverclocked card is a card they did 10 mins of work and slap a UBERWTFBBQ Smackdown edition sticker on and charge you more for. And every GPU since the 4000's ATI and GTX200 series is overvoltage with a program.

on stock speeds the gtx 285 is the fastest single core card, but the 4890 got a great overclocking potencial, u can bring the core up to 1000mhz from 850, for the memory clock i don't know so exactly, and u got yourself the performance of a gtx 285 :P
