However I'm not convinced Livingstone is more than your average amount megalomaniac, as he has made a number of risky decisions over the years which could easily have backfired and seen him out of office. A key example is the congestion charge -- a safer bet, if all he wanted was power, would have been to quietly shelve those plans and do something less conspicuous.
As for his family life... I don't think the mayor's ability to stick with one woman has any bearing on his ability to govern.
Finally, as for Jews, I can only repeat myself in that he didn't speak against Jews on that occasion. He accused a reporter of being a mercenary bastard using inadvisable terms (and lost the argument on Godwin's point in the process), but he didn't say a word against Jews (in fact, he spoke against Nazis which might be considered to be the opposite).
The reporter's own faith has no bearing on comments about his conduct; we can't have a world in which Jews are immune to criticism.

1) Getting rid of the famous routemaster buses which from a tourist point of view is like going to New York without yellow taxis.
2) Introducing 'bendy buses', which from time to time catch fire. Bendy buses are so long that it's like the equilivant of 2 extra car spaces. In Monaco they have problems with space just like London-what do they do-easy build upwards.
As for his personal life. Your right it doesn't effect his job to govern. But having had a child of my own, I can tell you it seems like the guy must have some problems to do what he did several times over. Anyway he has been rejected by the majority of Londerers. Every politician has a thing for power -- otherwise they wouldn't be politicians :) If anything I'd say Livingstone is easier to trust than most because he rarely minces his words -- the Evening Standard being a good example, and this video another.
Of course, this could be a cunning masquerade of "straightforwardness," but said straightforwardness has got him into trouble enough times that I'm fairly convinced it's not an act.

Or at least, no more unfit than Boris Johnson, who wants power, or Gordon Brown, who wants power, or David Cameron, etc etc etc. They all want power to at least some degree; I present as evidence their long careers spent obtaining it.

However I'm not convinced Livingstone is more than your average amount megalomaniac, as he has made a number of risky decisions over the years which could easily have backfired and seen him out of office. A key example is the congestion charge -- a safer bet, if all he wanted was power, would have been to quietly shelve those plans and do something less conspicuous.
As for his family life... I don't think the mayor's ability to stick with one woman has any bearing on his ability to govern.

Finally, as for Jews, I can only repeat myself in that he didn't speak against Jews on that occasion. He accused a reporter of being a mercenary bastard using inadvisable terms (and lost the argument on Godwin's point in the process), but he didn't say a word against Jews (in fact, he spoke against Nazis which might be considered to be the opposite).
The reporter's own faith has no bearing on comments about his conduct; we can't have a world in which Jews are immune to criticism.

Also the oyster card, nice fares, but basically Livingstone said, my way or the high way. Dictatorship was alive and well in London. What pissed people off so much was how people that lived in the congestion charge had to pay a daily fee. Ok there is a generous discount, but these are fees nevertheless. Many Londoners have too much to pay in there daily lifes. We feel were getting strangled. I earn £11,000 a year there you go i'm being honest with you, so as a Labour guy he really hit me hard.

Tell me what Livingstone has done for Londoners apart from:
1) Getting rid of the famous routemaster buses which from a tourist point of view is like going to New York without yellow taxis.
2) Introducing 'bendy buses', which from time to time catch fire. Bendy buses are so long that it's like the equilivant of 2 extra car spaces. In Monaco they have problems with space just like London-what do they do-easy build upwards.

I think it's commendable he is taking on such a time consuming and demanding job, and when he hopefully does become PM, I'm sure he will do very well. However, it will take a while, he will inherit a mess from Labour. Mrs Thatcher did though, and she turned Britain around
