  • Khan, there's no reason I must watch this, is there?

  • That does make sense. Besides the fact that no air means no sound, it should work just fine.

  • It was working...my ears were hurting.

  • did you lock him in the vacuum?!

  • zzzzzz

  • im impressed by the chamber, perhaps you culd do a bag of marshmellos next?

  • if you were in a 100% vacuum, there would be no sound because there would be no air to vibrate and create the sound...that was legit

  • Shitty work practice leaving a one ton door swinging at random. In the real world, you would be sacked for neglecting an obvious and serious danger to person and property.

  • @coffeebuzzz : You know, for a moment there, I thought this video *was* shot in 'the real world'. Amazing what they can do with CGI nowadays, eh?

  • i have one of thoes

  • does this mean that astronauts can text in outerspace?

provided its strapped on to their wrist and that one of the satellites is pointed in their direction.

  • so whats the best kind of camera for its price?

  • Could somebody explain why there it sound in the vacuum, or am I missing something. It's good to know I can use my Flip Video Camera in space, but let's hope the flip camera doesn't freeze to death, or run out of battery :)

  • @CooCurrent There is a tiny bit of air in the chamber plus it's not floating in there, it's on a stand that is attached to the side of the chamber. Sound is traveling up the tripod and vibrating the whole camera so it's recorded as sound.

  • 95 Torr is still 1/8 of sea level pressure, and still 10x greater than the mean surface pressure on mars. Hardly earth orbit.

  • well it's good to know that if you're ever in a place without air, you can still record!! :D

  • Are you sure that vacuum chamber is big enough?

Geeez! It's just a little camera!

  • derp

  • Maybe next time you could have something to illustrate the pressure change in real time ...like maybe a marshmallow or a balloon?

  • @Kzaks : I absolutely second the marshmallow suggestion! :)

  • You look like having lots of fun, too bad i'm so dumb to work in something like that :(

  • now u can use it in spaaaaace!

  • So is it really a good deal, anyone? I had gone to Best buy but dumbme forgot to write down the analysis of the cameras. Yes, I went out but left my study mode at home. So if anyone could tell me the pros and cons of purchasing this camera for $207.99, please write. JDG

  • don't the flip mini hd get the flip ultra hd. it is worth the price.

i heard flip mini is bad but the flip ultra hd is amazing i have one.

it gives you nice quality video.

    its also pocket sized

you can record 2 hours before editing it and saving it onto the computer

    it can be taken anywhere.

it sounds to good to be true but it is a great product in my opinion

  • @kerpal3 I was going to get the Ultra HD but I got the MinoHD because I bought there second gen versoin or the premium Mino HD its alot better then the normal Mino HD and the Ultra HD

  • it's impressive that a flash camera has enough space to record in full HD for the whole time it takes to suction down to 50 torr.

That must be hours of HD footage

  • Actually it only takes us ~15 minutes to get to 50Torr. The MinoHD will record for an hour, so that was plenty of time to get to even lower vacuum.

  • wow, such a large volume i thought the pumps would take forever.

  • 15 minutes seems like an awful long time. What are you using as a roughing pump? I operate a similar sized chamber fitted with a cryopump and a TMP. I'd be in hivac in that amount of time.

  • What is your job.. if I may ask? Or what do you do at your job?

  • I'm a plasma physicist and work on the VASIMR plasma rocket....you can see my other videos for that. I did my Ph.D. at the Univ. of Wisconsin and right now I am employed by the University of Houston as a post-doctoral fellow and will soon join the Ad Astra Rocket Company as a full time employee.

  • Wow, that is cool. I'm sophomore studying electrical engineering and i recently joined a team that is working on building a small satellite. Joining this team has sparked my interest in satellites and space. Thanks for the cool videos...

  • @benwl nice mang
