@scupking - The reaso I asked is that the screen view size is diminished. This is an excellent informative video with the exception of the poor viewing quality. I prefer a more enhanced field. When you adjust this up to full screen, it's fuzzy and the pixels crash. You might want to consider using better filming equipment of get a friend to shoot it for you,
This was just a fun comparison. These are the only 2 acoustics I had at the time. I have since sold the S6. This video was more of to show how 2 completely different wood types sound. I personally like the deep sound of the Martin. Both are good guitars.
I don't understand this compare other than cuz they are the only 2 gtrs he owns to compare maybe. They are TOO different. Diffs: 1 is SW, 1 is solid top only...1 has LT stings, the other Med...1 is an entry level gtr, the other a med tier gtr...they are both made of completely different woods. This may be a fun compare but a "fair" one would be with one of Seagull's Maritime or Artist series guitars, at least the teirs would be close to same and strings should be the same too. jus my 2 cents
good comparison ! different but good sounding guitars both of them inspite of the considerable difference in the price. the recorded sound of the all-mahogany martin is perhaps too ''boomy'' but i am sure that it sounds and feels great when played.
The other comment is correct. You can't compare cedar top to spruce tops different brand guitars no less Cedar and spruce sound about right in this video. Would have been nice to hear cedar vs cedar. Seagull is about the best ROI out there.
I'm planning on buying a basic acoustic guitar that i will have for a long time. I want one that is not too cheap and not too expensive, just a descent one that plays as well as any expensive guitar . Should i consider getting the seagull S6 Original ?
I heard the seagull s6 orig is a good guitar fr beginners!
Why are you even comparing them? Different strings, different woods, and the Martin is like a grand and the seagull is 400 bucks. What are you going to compare next?, a Pinto and a Ferrari !
@MonnsterMan I don't know much about Pintos and Ferraris but i don't think it is a bad idea to compare good sounding guitars dispite the price difference. Quite the opposite, i'd say.
@theo9952 It's not JUST the price difference, read my comment againI The martin is SOLID WOOD, the seagull only has a solid top. A better comparison would be a Seagull SWS series. I own a Seagull M6, and I love it, but it doesn't sound better than a D-15. People make their decisions by their bank roll. If you can easily afford a D-15, you would hardly give the Seagull a second glance. Also, a major comparison is RESALE VALUE. You could buy Four used S6's for the price of one used D-15.
1. Yes i know about the Seagul S6, i too have one and it's a newer model with high-gloss top and binding around the top and the back. I also own a Maritime SWS mini Jumbo. I enjoy their different sound and playability, as much as i enjoy playing the most expensive and valuable of my three 6-string acoustics, a JF-55 Guild. I understand what you say about the resale value of the S6 and the materials it is made of...
2. ...it's just that i find interesting the comparison between these two guitars and i find them both very good-sounding although i can tell the difference. It is also a fact that the all-solid Martin will improve with age more that the solid-top S6. One other fact about the S6's... not all of them play and sound as good as this one here. One has to pick and chose carefully among several to find the best -sounding.
@theo9952 I totally agree with you on the S6 being a little "loose" in it's reliability of playing. They can sound awesome to so-so, I don't know why that is. I am probably going to get an S6+folk. Only because I can't find what I want in a Martin. Short scale and at least a 1 3/4 nut width. No Dread, I need a smaller body style now. Taylor seems to be a bust also!
@MonnsterMan the S6 folk has laminate back and sides, just like the dreadnaut. When i decided to buy a smaller body guitar i opted for the MaritimeSWSminy jumbo instead. It is very comfortable to hold due to smaller body depth and size generally, is quite wide at the nut (1.9 inches) it's short scale and yields a beautiful sound of the kind one would expect from an all solid wood smaller guitar. I think its worth considering before you go for the folk.
@MonnsterMan Taylor use to make a moderate-priced all solid wood smaller ''jumbo'' type guitar, the Taylor214 which was one of the best sounding guitars i 've ever played. Sadly by the time i could afford to buy it they had replaced the solid sapele back and sides with laminate rosewood, ...which put me off...
I could be wrong, but I do not believe this is a fair comparison. You are comparing a cedar top guitar (the Martin) to a spruce top guitar (Seagull). If you want to do a proper comparison of 2 guitars, they should be of similar woods. A cedar top guitar is almost always going to sound warmer than any spruce top guitar. Cedar top guitars are made from that wood for the purpose of a different sound.
For the price you paid for the Martin, yeah I guess you like it better.
