I'll never forget Dawny Pops Meredith & Jamer (I think- RIP) running past me at T sayin come to Beacon Hill dude, there's some band playin a free show there! Never thought for a second they'd get as big as they did!
Do you have the white eagle hall show in '89 or 90 where they were screening their own shirts because they didn't want to bring shirts over the border? I saw a couple of pretty great shows down there, and at the hillside hell house, Hump House... OK now I feel old.
If you notice, Tre's drum setup back in 1992 (and in the video) is the same with the one has now. White with the two floor toms and hanging rack tom. It's unbelievable.
Oh man!! I love Green Day!! :D haha it's funni how there all in there boxers XD if only I wuz there...but to bad since I wasn't born until 6years later ;(
@jmsmilton84 The PA wasn't working at first. There were lots of 'technical issues', and it was a last minute gig, but in a room like that, nobody cared, we all had fun.
@Junkpunker21: Don't you ever go to gigs? If so, why? Probably same reason I go/went. I try to go to all shows I can. Can't make/vid them all, but glad I've had the luck to a lot that I have gone to, in the venues & rooms that I had the pleasure to see some history made in (whether the world was aware or not).
@513punkrock Don't speak of things you don't know, or can't prove. I taped this video, and have 20 minutes on tape, they play about 30 minutes, approx 6 songs, and banter.
@FinksEntourage I fixed that entry in my reply to another. In my heading it says a year and a half, not "less than a year", but I will fix that too. Cheers.
wow. Wow, wow, wow. Too bad about the vocals but wow. nice - could you believe it - you video record some young punk band and 20 years later they're double diamond in sales around the world and fucking rock icons?
@youarelemons umm, don't wanna sound like a jerk, but did you look at the title of the video (Green Day - Road To Acceptance - Live Oct. 6, 1992)? The Oct 6, 1992 part indicates the exact date this was shot just under two years before GD's appearance at Woodstock 94 (August 1994). (edited 2010-09-20)
@Larousse1995 - Sorry, as I shot the vid, I tell you that it is, indisputably Tre Cool. This Billy Joe, Tre Cool, and Mike Dirnt, 1 year before playing Woodstock.
It wasn't my basement, it was, if you read the full video description, in the basement of my friend Jesus Bonehead (drummer for the real punk band Dayglo Abortions - see their vids post here and elsewhere) basement at the time, in Victoria BC Canada. Why? Because when bands are starting out that's what they do, they play wherever they can, where people want to see them. If you don't know this, then get off your couch and get out and find where the real deal is,
It's strange that you can't really hear Billy's vocals on most of this, but you can hear them much better when he sings Pasalacqua at this same "gig". I wonder why?
At concerts there often can be 'technical issues', in this case the PA (for vocals) was not working, that's why on the one song you can hear them an on the other you can't. That's rock and roll.
Actually the barrier was used for all shows at this 'venue'. Many bands played there, most much more hardcore than GD. It was needed as a way to divide the band and the audience in such cramped quarters. Otherwise it would have been (more) difficult for the bands to play at all.
I know the feeling - I always wished I could have seen The Who when they were playing small clubs in their early days. Guess it evened out seeing GD, Nirvana, and RHCP in small venues.
they made the punk genre so proud before. now they are just bastards who fucking sold out... even the shitty retardos in my school in malaysia are singing songs from them
Okay so they changed! What the hell is wrong with change? Everyone changes with time and of course they are all older now so thier views on life and all other things have changed too! Who can't give out to them for growing up, you can't stay the same forever!
Great video! These early shows where they would play in just about any venue shows how dedicated they are. Plus their first 2 albums put american idiot to shame.
Just when filming this video. They were chatty, and very personable. Hard to imagine that a year later they were playing to hundreds of thousands at Woodstock.
Wow, awesome video to watch thanks so much for posting. To me it looks like Gary Brainless' basement.
