  • Wish i had that kinda sound :(

  • @FlatpickingNM you do!

  • You cast a powerful spell with this music, Steve... And I love it!

  • such a badass!!!

  • Actually this is a bulgarian folk wedding song and Vai take it after the concert in Sofia.

  • @past1or wrong .. freak show excess is based on bulgarian wedding music

  • @MrCold012 did you read Anatomy of a Song with Steve Vai: “Incantation”

  • @past1or I've read the whole background of this song on a CD and it didn't mention particulary bulgarian wedding music but in general bulgarian traditional music elements

  • @MrCold012 I'm bulgarian. And I have some background knowledge about out folk music. And can tel you that the wedding folk music is part of traditional folk music here.

  • @MrCold012 yeah thats true ... thats a typical bulgarian dance, called "horo"... and you say it like you read it... Im a bulgarian and listening to this song and knowing that a musician like Vai presents Bulgaria like that makes me even prowder being Bulgarian

  • @MrCold012 YEah... and this one is based just on bulgarian music

  • picture in that video...there are two legends vai and bily shenan..

  • unique intro...

  • This album is Vai's best record. His other stuff is good, but this is a landmark achievement in terms of conception and production. No-one else has ever done anything like this. He really set a precedent with this record, and as far as I'm concerned, more than any other record, this is the one that cemented his reputation as a player, and more so a composer.

  • This is great music of the live album... "alive in an ultra world" disc #2!!!

    more then beautiful!!!

  • It's not happenstance to that album is my best!

This is the oldschool Steve absolutely love it!

    And the Black Forest!

  • @RaphaelFragelli He said "CD Quality" not "Studio Quality" :)

  • Magical!

  • @RaphaelFragelli I just meant it was from the CD and not him playing it live somewhere else with bad quality and stuff.

  • cool

  • this is something you don't dance to; you TWITCH to this music :P

  • @rounder yeah it is you know vai loves the strange tempos "now we run" have a 25/32 tempo

  • I guess we get "Liberty" ?

  • good drummer for this show, too.

  • @Arkantozero Mike Mangini. One of the most awsome drume players that exist.

  • 0:00-0:42 i so awesome

  • Bulgarian folk is beautiful! Steve felt that beauty for sure!

  • no, Turkey

  • ye its in 5 in the intro then its a very quick 11/16 1 e & a 2 e & a 3 e & 1 e &.....

lol theres a song on ultrazone in the same time but slightly faster, its the really weird one where he sings about a angry bee or something

  • STEVE THE BEST 4EVER!!!

  • lol the from 0:00 to 0:02 i was like "This is for the love of god...."

  • lol me 2.

  • yeah me too

  • @ibanezjem224 I thought the same. Its the same first 3 notes as "For love of God"

  • @ibanezjem224 so did I !

  • heard first tow seconds and thought "for the love of god" :p

  • Steve likes those intro notes. ;)

  • yeah i totally thought that was going to be busted out... maybe this song was part of of some insight for him before he wrote for the love of god :) either way, amazing stuff on both sides, except this one is new, but not for long :D

  • i kno for sure steve said 5/4 and 11/8. i was like "ok oddball time signatures, i'll jus use my ear." then he started countin out those times, and thats where he lost me haha this is the only bulgarian styled music i listen to

  • steve said that .. well it is 5/4 but its 11/16 not eights ;)

  • I ahve absolutely no clue what your talking about. But I think Steve Vai talks about that in his interview about this song.

  • do you know where can i watch the interview? thanks for the video/song!

  • No I'm sorry I can't find anymore.

The way I first found it was by typing in "incantation" in the search bar but it's not there anymore. Sorry.

  • @M3TALLICA444 he means the time signiture of the song

  • @Ibik I know that, I just don't know the TS off the top of my head just from listening.

  • I actually like this version better than his live in astoria one with tony macalpine....god i love tony mac

  • aww... U cut out the part where Steve messes up!!!

  • Vai said he based it on Bulgarian folklore

  • one has to know: Balcan cultures are realy similar, Slavic origins, so one can hear 7/8 played all over Balcan. This type of music is characteristical for Serbia, Bulgaria, Macedonia....

  • makes me feel proud to be a bulgarian :P

  • Here we have a lot of Bulgarian folklore :)

    Amaizing

  • fav song of his for me as well

  • One of my favorite intros of all time ever

  • wasn't alive in an ultra world a live album? He recorded all the new songs on stage. Does that mean it's not a "studio" album?

  • no cus it was mixed and rendered in a studio. It's called live STUDIO album

  • Actually, just about all live albums were mixed in a studio, and a ton of live albums have studio overdubs. It's still a live album.

  • search for "Kopanitsa A La Turka". sounds kind of similar to the solo part.

  • I just listened to it, and yes, it sounds like the solo!

The only difference is that your song is all in phrygian dominant, but the solo Steve does is in a chromatic no major 2nd thing. Then he turns lydian, but that's an other story.

  • my favorite song of his

  • omg i really love this one

  • Amazing song!
