  • take off

  • how did the ball gunner actuate the turret?

  • I don't really mind that this is a "composite" type photo-play. If anything, it reminds me of either the Schweinfurt-Regensburg and/or "Black Thursday." the 305th took a beating, losing 13 of 16. B-17-G-42-97217 (JW-L) of the 326th (92nd BG) was named after my mother; part of the squadron that led the group in the lead wing with 20 other aircraft into Schweinfurt 14 Oct 43. total of three are said to have made it back that day. Luckily anyone came back at all.

  • Great movie.I already bought the DVD.

  • I live 5 miles west of Great Yarmouth woo lol

  • 2:16= thats why you are in the dummyseat 0_o

  • LOL @ 6:30

    COULDN'T GET LAID LAST NIGHT!

  • the real last mission of the memphis bell was a milk run wich means that nothiong realy happened they went in droped the bombs and went back

  • 5:10 chemtrails obviously.. /sarcasm

  • From time index 5:07 to 5:10, when the aircraft are flying in groups, there are vapour trails left behind from some of the aircraft but not by the lower flying ones. Is this accurate? Does just a short amount of height make such a difference in vapour trail formation?

  • Did I see right?

The "Belle"s is the DF-o-A or what?

Why is Windy City the Leader when the "Belle" the No. 1 of this Wing?

  • @Hickmaann90 Tipycal army- procedure. The leader of a group isn't automatically the comannding officer/plane/ship. But the enemy thinks it, so they try to knock out the leader, while the real leading machine is still on it's way.

  • @AnimePrayer

    All right.

The "Belle" was Leader of her Flight (with the "C-Cup" and "Mother and Country") and after the destruction of the "Windy City" and the heay damaged "C-Cup" abort the flght, the "Belle" leads the entire Attack Flight?

  • That's now become one of my favourite scenes as the engines rev up and that B-17 shoots down the runway!!! Something so majestic about it!!

  • Another fail: when real "Memphis Belle" had tour of duty (7 November 1942 - 19 May 1943), the "little friends" were P-47's & P-38's (and Spitfires on shorter, French raids).

Mustangs still weren't used as long - range fighter.

  • man i could never sit in one of those ball turrets .

    TOO scary

  • @codmod55 True, plus I think its a Death Trap. As far as I know they couldn't wear their Parachutes in them. If I had to choose then I'd be a Rear-Gunner (not that I'd ever want to do that ever mind :-D)

  • 'cause if the b-17 was hit or had a engine failure they can come back and decrease the load dropping bombs over the sea, if you are on a '17 and you're flying with two engine you havo not the same speed, so to prevent stall or loose of altitude you need to be lighter..and that's why they arm bombs shortly after take off..

  • God, i wish i could take the B-17 to bed!!!!!!

  • movie shoulda mentioned their mascot-dog was named Stuka

  • @IsaoFuruta 最好相信它

  • By the way: How did those airmen go to the toilet? Did they just mess their suit?

  • Ive heard from some very reliable sources that the Memphis Belles final mission wasnt as strenuous as this movie makes it appear to be. That it was merely a milk run.

  • @mgkusmc I don't know, I got the impression the movie was a compilation of all their missions....but I will check into that. But I assume it was a compllation since that is typical in historical movies.

  • @mgkusmc My quick research confirms what I thought: this is a compliation of all their missions and the crew memebers were composites of several crews. But that makes sense: the movie was more of a tribute to the whole 8th rather than just Memphis. Last mission was Kiel but what I have read the misson on Bremen was a real nightmare...as bad as the movie depicts.

  • @555paint Totally. Bremen was one of those runs the boys hated in 1943.

  • they got one thing wrong, P-51's were not in service yet by the time they flew this mission

  • @Cage2053K

Cage2053K: "P-51s were not in service yet"

Do you mean the D models with bubble-canopy external drop tanks?

Mustangs were in service quite some times before but with below-par performance. The Merlin engines did not came until the introduction of C models as experiments around late 42 ~ early 43.

  • @bluehawka0 yea the D's i knew B's and C's flew bomber escort but I dont think they had the range for a Berlin strike, I think the Belle flew its last mission in May of 43 and the D's diddnt come into service untill mid 1944. The P-51s in the movie are D's i believe

  • @Cage2053K I was wrong, I watched it again their C's

  • My father was a bombadier in a B29 - I insisted that he watch this movie with me - he said the authenticity was pretty accurate, except they did not show nearly enough anti-aircraft fire - he said it would look so thick you could walk on it... Dad was in the Pacific, but we can never thank any of these heroes enough.

  • The thought going through my mind as the B-17s were taking off was 'poor bastards'

There are no words in my vocabulary to express my thanks for the sacrifice these men offered!

  • They just don't make movies like this anymore!

  • @troopcom ... cuz in these movies, there is no space for harry potter or jack sparrow :D

  • @jiimek Amen to that!!!!!

  • i love this movie thanks for uploading :)
