Paul Newman rocks. This song is so melancholy and somber.

actually this song shows that Newman as a hard criminal after his mother death-has a soul so powerfully moving. Look at the tears rolling down his cheeks great acting in the clip. It all in how you look at it, yes this is somber and melancholy, but he is honoring his dead (supposed Catholic) mother. Any good son would shed tears for his mother

fair enough it was just an opinion anyway. and the "good son" comment was kind of corny as there are handfuls of deadbeat mothers and fathers out there that deserve no tears whatsoever from their sons and daughters. Anyway I think we can both agree that this is a great part of a great movie. I mean why would someone comment on it if they hated it unless they wanted to be seen as an ass.

I disagree with you on this point. Dissenting opinion is to be protected from the overwhelming consensus. I may not agree with someone if they hated this movie but I wouldn't call them an ass for doing so.

I didn't see (or otherwise don't remember) the beginning when he actually arrested he was on a chain gang so I assumed he was a hard criminal....my mistake obviously.
