Get the Radeon HD 4870 x2? That's 2 GB's of RAM, so this "graphically intense forest" will get pwned like a noob. ALso get a good CPU, I recommend Q9550.
Oblivion is still one of the hardest game to run smoothly especially when a person have quarl's texture packs and AA on. I have old 8800gts 320mb and D920 2.8ghz processor. My oblivion lags the most at Hackdirt area, which is South of Chorol. (I play with 4AA 1280x1024, and no quarl's texture pack). BTW crysis runs pretty fine on my computer.
What kind of screen do you have ? 19", 20" ? What resolution do you have too ?
My friend has a 8800 GT, AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+, 4 Go DDR2 667 working at 3,3GHz because of XP 32 bit and he gots no fu**in lag. BUT, he has a 19" Widescreen. I don't understand seriously !
Instead of the the P35 chipset you should get an X38 or 45 or 48 chipset as those supposrt PCI-E 2.0 while the P35 chipset does not. This will provide extra bandwidth for your 4870, esp when you get a 2nd. Also, if this is going to be 4 gaming, rather than the quad, get an e8400, under $200 and blazing fast. If you stipe your system drive than make sure to have a large secondary drive for data back up,if 1 hdd fails in stipe, you lose ALL ur data.ram should work fine in dual channel.
I saw a GTX 260 for $329.99 @ Fry's today, no mail in rebate required. Of course the 4870 OUTPERFORMS the GTX 260 and is still cheaper than even that sales price plus ATI's gpus have more features right now. What parts are you going to put into your new build?
ya just recently my dad and i decided to build a new gaming computer so i will be able to do that. sadly its gona take a while because the toatal price is going to be about $12500, but it will be worth it hopefully
...and you 'hope' it will be good? sweet jebus!! I've just finished building one that costed me 3000$ and honestly for gaming I've topped out the best parts...
well the parts arent going to be the newest but they were all made within the last 6 months so they are relativatly new. any way it well be A LOT better than the one i have now
On the 360 thats how it always looks.

8800 GTS 512MB or XFX 9800GT 512MB
what one is beter?
milton10079 3 years ago
If the price is the same, or only a difference of 50 dollars or less, go with the 9800.
If the 9800 costs more then 50 dollars more then the 8800, go with the 8800.
Basically, they are almost the same.
Only go with the 9800GT if it costs the same or only a tiny bit more.
In my opinion though, I'd go with the 8800 GTS 512MB, it keeps nice and cool.

Thats because oblivions engine just sucks.
Yeah, my crysis runs better then oblivion, and looks 3 times better.

I'm laging outside, where you can see all the grass and trees, ect.
Maybe it's because of my 20" screen and my high resolution(1680 x 1050). I tried to put it in 1280 x 1024 and it lags too.
I got the latest driver with the PhysX. Maybe I should do the update for oblivion ? Does it optimize the game ?
nemesiselite0 3 years ago
It doesn't optimize that I know of. I also know no answer to your problem. Try posting it in a forum somewhere?

I have a 19" 1440 x 900.

I don't understand why I'm laging so much in Oblivion. I have a 8800 GTS 512 too, c2d E6850, 2 Go RAM DDR2 800MHz. I'm wondering why.
nemesiselite0 3 years ago
Where do you lag most?
Make sure your Anti Aliasing isn't set to anything with a "Q" on the end. E.g. 16Q, coz that lags like hell.
Tried updating your drivers?
