Hello.. I have an spitfire 1970, 1300 c.c engine, with original Leyland equipment (Forged pistons, Crankshaft, valve sits, super oil pump, and some more..), and i´m rebuilding my spitfire.. The engine and gear box its done, but the chassis and exterior still working.. i posted a video from my engine..

and like this shit box? This car really has leaf springs exactly like the ones found on an ox-cart (unlike the corvette) and if you run over a puddle it will short out the electrical system. It's not a rainy day car by any stretch of the imagination. That aside it is a fun car to drive but so is a go-cart. Brits can't make cars so instead of giving credit where it's due they fabricate stories about everybody else!

A spitfire has always been a shit car. They designed it like a sports car, with a long bonnet that takes up half of the car, but it just has a tiny engine. It's just a modest average small car with an uneconomic body shape. Anyone sane would buy a hatchback back then, much more space and the same speed/performance

@chevygearhead454 Generally with older cars you have to replace the cylinder heads to convert them to use unleaded fuel. Usually not too difficult or expensive.

Although the GT6 had the same Chassis, the engine was entirely different, they came with a different differential, a rotoflex coupling, a different hood/bonnet and all were coupes. More like distant cousins than brothers. However, the GT6 was raced at LeMans where it was referred to as a Spitfire.

:) About the most fun driving a car I ever had though (just loved the Spitfire I had).

Most all of the problems they had were related to the electrical systems. And that was because -- and I still can't believe they built them with this -- they used brass fittings for connections. WTF?! Brass corrodes over time, especially in places with damp weather.

So, after about one good drive in the rain... there you go. But so long as you keep up with the maintenance, they're great.
