I want to buy a Great Dane, but I have heard that these dogs, due to their weight, are prone to joint problems, and are not athletic like dobermans or German Shephards. Is it true? Please guide. Thanks

if you do research a german shepard is just as prone to hip displasyia as a great dane. Alot of large breed dogs are prone to joint problems.

All larger breeds are prone to joint problems. Especially hip displasyia. But as for being active, they are very active. Though when they are in a lazy mood- they WILL take over your couch. : )

I think if you want a dog to run long distances another breed would work better. My dane can run well but I bring him to a dog park a lot and he gets tired way faster then a lot of other dogs do. They are a lot of power not stamina. I say it depends what type of things you want to do with your dog. It is not good to run with a dane untill they are at least a year old to. And you cant let them eat a lot before they do a lot of running and jumping around in fear of bloat. Just do your homework.

I've noticed that dogs may bite at not just water but dirt as well. A mastiff was watching me and a two other guys digging a trench and it began to bite at the the dirt we were shoveling in mid air all the while wagging it's tail happily.
